LAST WEEK

We were reminded that our past can be our greatest teacher.
Our past decisions have the ability to teach us and lead us on to greater victories.
Paul reminds the Corinthians that the stories of faith from the Old Testament were written for a purpose.
They were written for our admonition
For our instruction and encouragement
That we would learn from the good and bad decisions of the Israelites.

THIS WEEK

We are going to look at a portion of scripture that needs our immediate attention.
From Paul’s experience with temptation:
Paul had learned something valuable
He had learned a way to overcome temptation
He had trained himself to be patient in the midst of temptation
To not allow emotions or pleasure to rule his actions
How many of us are tired of making the same mistakes over and over?
How many of us are tired of sinning and falling short of the glory of God?

I BELIEVE GOD’S WORD HAS SOMETHING FOR US TODAY

TURN TO
0:12-
1 Corinthians 10:12–33 NKJV
12 Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall. 13 No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it. 14 Therefore, my beloved, flee from idolatry. 15 I speak as to wise men; judge for yourselves what I say. 16 The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ? 17 For we, though many, are one bread and one body; for we all partake of that one bread. 18 Observe Israel after the flesh: Are not those who eat of the sacrifices partakers of the altar? 19 What am I saying then? That an idol is anything, or what is offered to idols is anything? 20 Rather, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice they sacrifice to demons and not to God, and I do not want you to have fellowship with demons. 21 You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons; you cannot partake of the Lord’s table and of the table of demons. 22 Or do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? Are we stronger than He? 23 All things are lawful for me, but not all things are helpful; all things are lawful for me, but not all things edify. 24 Let no one seek his own, but each one the other’s well-being. 25 Eat whatever is sold in the meat market, asking no questions for conscience’ sake; 26 for “the earth is the Lord’s, and all its fullness.” 27 If any of those who do not believe invites you to dinner, and you desire to go, eat whatever is set before you, asking no question for conscience’ sake. 28 But if anyone says to you, “This was offered to idols,” do not eat it for the sake of the one who told you, and for conscience’ sake; for “the earth is the Lord’s, and all its fullness.” 29 “Conscience,” I say, not your own, but that of the other. For why is my liberty judged by another man’s conscience? 30 But if I partake with thanks, why am I evil spoken of for the food over which I give thanks? 31 Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. 32 Give no offense, either to the Jews or to the Greeks or to the church of God, 33 just as I also please all men in all things, not seeking my own profit, but the profit of many, that they may be saved.

:12-
1 Corinthians 10:12 NKJV
12 Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall.
FRIENDS, IF THERE IS ONE VERSE WE NEED TO LIVE OUT, IT IS THIS ONE.
WE NEED THIS
THE CHURCH NEEDS THIS.
WE NEED TO KNOW THAT:
EVEN THOUGH THINGS ARE GOING GREAT
WE NEED TO KNOW THAT, WHEN WE ARE DOING WELL WITH JESUS
WHEN WE ARE DOING WELL WITH JESUS
WHEN ALL IS WELL AND WE ARE STANDING FIRM
WHEN ALL IS WELL AND WE ARE STANDING FIRM
WE MUST MAINTAIN THE POSTURE OF HUMILITY.
We must take heed
We must be vigilant
We must be aware
Of what?
Things that will cause us to fall
Attitudes that will weaken our stability
To be blunt
The temptations that often lead to failure
FRIENDS WE MUST BE AWARE OF THE THINGS THAT LEAD US INTO TEMPTATION, KEEP US IN TEMPTATION, AND FLEE FROM US ONCE THE DEED IS DONE.
WE MUST BE AWARE THAT OUR ENEMY, THE DEVIL
Prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour
He is at our doorstep and his desire is for us
He has come to steal, kill, and destroy
And we need to Jesus Up, and D his stanky butt up.
We need to stop listening to his pretty little lies and do something practical.
You ready?
HERE IS A MAJOR KEY IN THE CHRISTIAN GAME
1 Cor 10:13
1 Corinthians 10:13 NKJV
13 No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.
WE NEED TO REALIZE SOMETHING ABOUT THE TEMPTATIONS WE KEEP LOSING TO:
#1 Sometimes they are there because we asked for them
James 1:14–15 NKJV
14 But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. 15 Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death.
Friends, we need to realize that sometimes we are drawn away by our own desires.
We are lured by our own feelings
We take the bait of our own flesh
WE GET HIGH ON OUR OWN SUPPLY.
When desire has conceived
When the flesh runs its course
It gives birth to sin
Now many think that now that Sin has birthed it’s game over.
Naw Fam
That’s just the beginning of the end.
Check out what James says:
When sin matures
It brings forth death
THE KEY HERE IS “MATURITY”
WHEN SIN HAS MATURED, IT BRINGS FORTH DEATH
When Sin has been enabled long enough
Entertained long enough
Allowed to run game long enough
It brings forth death
HOW CAN WE PREVENT THIS?
If you don’t put up a fight
If you keep allowing it to run game
If you don’t put up a fight
If you remain passive
Time
Repetition
Complacency
Will allow sin to mature
When sin has matured
It will result in death.
Right now, many of us have been entertaining certain sins.
Allowing them to linger
Allowing them to run their course
Allowing them to stay for free in the Temple that the Holy Spirit has claimed as His own.
We have been playing host to an enemy, and it’s time we wake up and deal with the elephant in the room.
#2 FRIENDS WE NEED TO REALIZE THAT SIN & TEMPTATION IS CONQUERABLE
IT’S VINCIBLE
IT’S DEFEATABLE
BUT IT INVOLVES US LEARNING FROM JESUS AND WAITING FOR HIM TO MAKE A MOVE.
WHAT DO I MEAN?
WE NEED TO KNOW THAT GOD IS FAITHFUL WHEN WE ARE TEMPTED
He is Faithful to grant us the Victory in Christ Jesus
He is faithful to provide a way of escape
He is faithful to us when we are most tempted.
THE WAY THAT THE BIBLE DESCRIBES TEMPTATION MAKES IT SEEM LIKE IT IS A W WAITING TO BE GRASPED.
God, knows our weaknesses, and desires growth
He knows our weaknesses, and allows us to be tempted
Not because he thinks we will fail
But because He desires us to be more than conquerors in Christ Jesus
He wants us to be victorious.
The question is do we want it?
Friends, not only must we show up
We must fight
The W is there. We just have to go get it.
FRIENDS, WE MUST SLOW DOWN THE PROCESS OF SIN
BE PATIENT IN THE MIDST OF TEMPTATION
FOR THIS TOO SHALL PASS
GOD IS FAITHFUL AND HE WILL MAKE A WAY OF ESCAPE THAT YOU WOULD BE ABLE TO BARE IT.
What if we saw every temptation as a way to Give God Glory
What if we saw temptation as a way for us to see God work
What if today we began to build courage to be the overcomers the Bible calls us to be.
To overcome this world and the temptations by the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony?
THE STRONGEST ENCOURAGEMENT WE CAN RECEIVE TODAY IS THIS:
DO
1 Corinthians 10:14 NKJV
14 Therefore, my beloved, flee from idolatry.
THERE IS NO GREATER CALL TO ACTION THAT THIS
ACT
FRIENDS, GI JOE WAS RIGHT
KNOWING IS HALF THE BATTLE
YOU KNOW WHAT YOU MUST DO
BUT NO ONE CAN DO IT FOR YOU
YOU MUST FLEE FROM IDOLATRY
WHAT IS IDOLATRY?
Extreme devotion, admiration, love, reverence, for a person or thing.
The Greek is specific to the worship of any Idol, and even clearer, the worship of an image
Why is this important?
BECAUSE WHAT WE WORSHIP BECOMES OUR MASTER
WHAT WE WORSHIP RULES THE HEART
Romans 6:16 NKJV
16 Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one’s slaves whom you obey, whether of sin leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness?
BECAUSE WE ARE THE TEMPLE
THE HOST OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
WE CANNOT BE DIVIDED IN THIS
We cannot both worship God and ____________
WHY?
1 Corinthians 10:15–22 NKJV
0:
FRIENDS, THE BIBLE IS CLEAR ABOUT DOING THINGS IN VAIN
WHEN WE COME TO THE LORD’S TABLE TO TAKE COMMUNION
OUR ATTITUDES SHOULD BE FULLY ALIGNED WITH HIS WILL FOR OUR LIVES
WE ARE SAYING “GOD NOT MY WILL, BUT THY WILL”
WE ARE SAYING “GOD I KNOW WHAT I MUST DO, BUT I NEED YOUR POWER”
WE ARE SAYING “GOD HELP . . .”
IF THIS IS NOT OUR ATTITUDE, WE ARE TAKING COMMUNION IN VAIN
DRINKING BOTH THE CUP OF THE LORD AND THE CUP OF DEMONS
BEING UNEQUALLY YOKED WITH THE LORD.
THIS PROVOKING HIM TO ANGER.
THIS PRACTICE MUST STOP.
