Just a closer walk with thee. . .

This series is about helping us to know how to, and to draw closer to our Lord and Savior so that we may shine bright the Light of Jesus in and through our lives to others.
(Big Events picture inserted here)
Everyone has big events in their lives, birth, graduation, birth of children, grandchildren. The most important big event in our life is when we were born again (expand on this).
(Born again-1 picture inserted here)
Age does not matter about being born again, if young by faith, if old by faith, your faith that is obedient from the heart that brings salvation to you, and then is a display to others.
Our life as a Christian is not only hidden in Christ but is for Christ. What we do is a reflection of Christ in us. Our love, our service, our commitment. When we can grasp, start to comprehend the incomprehensible of being a born again, God fearing, disciple of Christ our life in Christ and for Christ is more enjoyable, more productive and is more significant for the kingdom.
Being a Christian comes with blessings, salvation is the first and foremost and it comes with responsibilities too. Our series and with it starting with the lesson today is to direct us, help us, encourage us, instruct us to have a closer walk with thee as children of God.

God as our Heavenly Father

Stop, think, reflect on our Heavenly Father, there are blessings in Him and there are responsibilities as a Christian to our Heavenly Father. And if we want a closer walk, well, we should look at both.
___________________________________________________________
Blessings: He is the source of every good gift (Jm1:17; Mt7:11)
Blessings: He provides comfort in our affliction (2Cor1:3-4)
Blessings: He corrects us from love when needed (Heb12:5-11)
Blessings: Promise to not leave nor forsake us (Heb13:5-6)
___________________________________________________________
Blessings: He is the source of every good gift (Jm1:17; Mt7:11)
James 1:17 NASB95
17 Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow.
expand briefly
Matthew 7:11 NASB95
11 “If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give what is good to those who ask Him!
Think about good gifts and they come from above, sometimes we don’t stop long enough to believe God wants to give them to us or that we deserve them, so we don’t ask or we ask for the wrong reason (thinking of Jm4:2-3) we ask selfishly
Blessings: He is the source of every good gift (Jm1:17; Mt7:11)
Blessings: He provides comfort in our affliction (2Cor1:3-4)
2 Corinthians 1:3–4 NASB95
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our affliction so that we will be able to comfort those who are in any affliction with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.
He is the Father of mercies and ALL comfort, comforts us in ALL our affliction, and does it for a purpose, look at (v.4) so that we will be able to comfort others - - - - - you are as a Christian to be God’s tool of comfort to others.
Blessings: He is the source of every good gift (Jm1:17; Mt7:11)
Blessings: He provides comfort in our affliction (2Cor1:3-4)
Blessings: He corrects us from love when needed (Heb12:5-11)
In summarizing the Hebrews passage we are to look to Jesus the author, creator, establisher of our faith ho is also the finisher of our faith and know that he is mindful of us, His creation that He has dominion over and He will correct us, or some versions say chastens us when needed.
Chastened with purpose check this out.
Hebrews 12:11 NASB95
11 All discipline for the moment seems not to be joyful, but sorrowful; yet to those who have been trained by it, afterwards it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness.
Now who does not want a good yield? Sometimes we need to be cultivated by correction so we can produce a good peaceable fruit of righteousness.
Hebrews 13:5–6 NKJV
5 Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” 6 So we may boldly say: “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me?”
So in this passage you have a chastisement (be free from love of money) and you have a promise (I will never leave you) and a confidence (the lord is my helper I will not fear)
You want a closer walk with thee, you have seen some of the blessings of having God as our Heavenly Father, now may we look at some blessed responsibilities of having Him as our Heavenly Father.
__________________________________________________
Responsibility: Submit to God (Jm4:7; 1Pt5:6-11)
Responsibility: Draw near to God (Jm4:8; Mt23:37)
Responsibility: Take responsibility for our actions (1Jn1:8-10)
___________________________________________________
Responsibility: Submit to God (Jm4:7; 1Pt5:6-11)
James 4:7 NASB95
7 Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.
How do we submit to God? (expand); Submit so you can resist with confidence! You have a choice it is not enough to know we are to submit, we have to submit.
But then, speaking of submitting how about a biblical definition?
1 Peter 5:6–7 NASB95
6 Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you at the proper time, 7 casting all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you.
1 Peter 5:8–9 NASB95
8 Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. 9 But resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same experiences of suffering are being accomplished by your brethren who are in the world.
1 Peter 5:10–11 NASB95
10 After you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who called you to His eternal glory in Christ, will Himself perfect, confirm, strengthen and establish you. 11 To Him be dominion forever and ever. Amen.
When we submit the results are we are perfected, confirmed, strengthened and established! - our part of submitting is submit to Him, to the authority of His Word!
Responsibility: Submit to God (Jm4:7; 1Pt5:6-11)
Responsibility: Draw near to God (Jm4:8; Mt23:37)
James 4:8 NASB95
8 Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
First we have the benefit of responsibility here then what we are to do, cleanse your hands (what you touch) purify your hearts (what you think and believe )
Our first drawing and submitting is by faith for salvation and the forgiveness of sins
Then there is the continual submission and drawing.
Responsibility: Submit to God (Jm4:7; 1Pt5:6-11)
Responsibility: Draw near to God (Jm4:8; Mt23:37)
Responsibility: Take responsibility for our actions (1Jn1:8-10)
1 John 1:8–10 NASB95
8 If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar and His word is not in us.
With God as our Heavenly Father that we want to have a closer walk with through Jesus, we need to take responsibility for our actions. We still fall short, we take responsibility knowing that and are willing to confess our shortcomings, our sins, our iniquities to Him and know that He will continue to forgive us and cleanse us!
Oh, wait, here is a bonus scripture not on your outline
1 John 2:1 NASB95
1 My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous;
When we fall short and we continue to walk in the light (1Jn1:7 reference) we know we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ!
Now that leads us to the Son, to Jesus Christ.

Jesus Christ as our Lord and High Priest

Blessed Redeemer, glorious Lord . . . You know the song, and hopefully prayerfully you know the Redeemer as your Lord and High priest. As a Christian we have blessings and responsibilities with Jesus as both those in our lives.
As Jesus Christ as our Lord:
________________________________________________
Blessings: assurance of His rule and reign (Mt28:18; Rev1:5-6)
Blessings: all authorities are subject to Him (1Pt3:22)
Blessings: We are called His brethren (Heb2:11-12)
_______________________________________________
Blessings: assurance of His rule and reign (Mt28:18; Rev1:5-6)
Maybe you have heard Mt28:18 before and know all authority has been given to Him, in heaven and on earth, which means he has all rule, reign and authority!
Revelation 1:5–6 NASB95
5 and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth. To Him who loves us and released us from our sins by His blood— 6 and He has made us to be a kingdom, priests to His God and Father—to Him be the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.
Because he has all rule, reign He has released us by His blood and made us, look at (v.6) Made us a kingdom, made us priests! So that we may give Him the glory!
Blessings: assurance of His rule and reign (Mt28:18; Rev1:5-6)
Blessings: all authorities are subject to Him (1Pt3:22)
1 Peter 3:22 NASB95
22 who is at the right hand of God, having gone into heaven, after angels and authorities and powers had been subjected to Him.
In keeping in context I better back up
1 Peter 3:21–22 NASB95
21 Corresponding to that, baptism now saves you—not the removal of dirt from the flesh, but an appeal to God for a good conscience—through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, 22 who is at the right hand of God, having gone into heaven, after angels and authorities and powers had been subjected to Him.
You became His in your appeal to God for a good conscience when you were baptized for the forgiveness of sins. You were made His who has all authority and all powers and are subject to Him.
Blessings: assurance of His rule and reign (Mt28:18; Rev1:5-6)
Blessings: all authorities are subject to Him (1Pt3:22)
Blessings: We are called His brethren (Heb2:11-12)
Hebrews 2:11–12 NASB95
11 For both He who sanctifies and those who are sanctified are all from one Father; for which reason He is not ashamed to call them brethren, 12 saying, “I will proclaim Your name to My brethren, In the midst of the congregation I will sing Your praise.”
He sanctifies us and has sanctified us! And because of that He is not ashamed to call us His own, call us brethren. Then may we be a blessing in return and proclaim Him, sing praises to Him, know who we are in Him. (Redeemed how I love to proclaim it . . . )
Man, that is not all, I have only spoken of the blessings of Jesus as our Lord, I have not gotten to the blessings of Jesus our High Priest yet.
Jesus as our High Priest
_________________________________________________
Blessings: for He intercedes on our behalf (Rom8:34)
Blessings: He understands us (Heb2:17-18)
Blessings: lives to make intercession for us (Heb7:24-25)
______________________________________________
Blessings: for He intercedes on our behalf (Rom8:34)
Romans 8:34 NASB95
34 who is the one who condemns? Christ Jesus is He who died, yes, rather who was raised, who is at the right hand of God, who also intercedes for us.
He took on our sin guilt, took on our sin shame, took on our sin penalty and now intercedes for us!
Blessings: for He intercedes on our behalf (Rom8:34)
Blessings: He understands us (Heb2:17-18)
Hebrews 2:17–18 NASB95
17 Therefore, He had to be made like His brethren in all things, so that He might become a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. 18 For since He Himself was tempted in that which He has suffered, He is able to come to the aid of those who are tempted.
He came and took on the form of man, suffered all things as a man so that he may be our merciful and faithful High priest since He was tempted in all things, now look at the end of (v.18)
He is able to come to the aid of those who are tempted (expand on this)
Blessings: for He intercedes on our behalf (Rom8:34)
Blessings: He understands us (Heb2:17-18)
Blessings: lives to make intercession for us (Heb7:24-25)
Hebrews 7:24–25 NASB95
24 but Jesus, on the other hand, because He continues forever, holds His priesthood permanently. 25 Therefore He is able also to save forever those who draw near to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.
His priesthood is eternal and continues forever he is able to save forever those who draw near to God the Father through Him, since He lives to make intercession for them. First for salvation, then for sanctification!
Responsibilities of having Jesus as Lord and High Priest
Responsibility: Do what He says (Lk6:46)
Don’t call Him Lord and not do what He says
Responsibility: Observe His teachings (Mt28:18-20)
He says go, so go, make, baptize, teach!
Responsibility: Keep His commands( Jn15:10, 14)
Abide in His love, keep His love, keep His commands
Prove to Be a friend of Jesus, do what He commands
Responsibility: Know and utilize His role (Heb4:14-16)
Hebrews 4:14–16 NASB95
14 Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. 15 For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin. 16 Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
Since we know these things, we want to enjoy and have the blessings we need to do these things, be responsible for these things so we can receive and enjoy all the blessings, like mercy and grace!

Holy Spirit that dwells in us

Father, Son, now the Holy Spirit. We need all if we want to have a closer walk with thee. There are more blessings to be had that comes with accepting more responsibilities from a heart of love. After all, He dwells in you (1Cor3:16)
1 Corinthians 3:16 NASB95
16 Do you not know that you are a temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?
Blessings of and from Holy Spirit, and our heart felt responsibilities:
____________________________________________________
Blessing: He strengthens you with purpose (Rom8:11-13; Eph3:16, 20)
Blessing: He helps you in our weaknesses (Rom8:26-27)
Responsibility: Keep the temple holy (1Cor3:16-17)
Responsibility: Glorify God with our body (1Cor6:18-20)
Responsibility: To walk in the Spirit and allow the Spirit to produce fruit in you (Gal5:16-18, 22-25)
Spirits fruit enhanced growth through fixing our thinking on the things of the Spirit (Rom8:5-6; Eph6:17)
_________________________________________________
Blessing: He strengthens you with purpose (Rom8:11-13; Eph3:16, 20)
Romans 8:11–12 NASB95
11 But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you. 12 So then, brethren, we are under obligation, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh—
Romans 8:13 NASB95
13 for if you are living according to the flesh, you must die; but if by the Spirit you are putting to death the deeds of the body, you will live.
This Holy Spirit blesses you and strengthens you in the inner man and con do more than we can ask or think as it mentions in the Ephesians passages
Blessing: He strengthens you with purpose (Rom8:11-13; Eph3:16, 20)
Blessing: He helps you in our weaknesses (Rom8:26-27)
Romans 8:26–27 NASB95
26 In the same way the Spirit also helps our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words; 27 and He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.
Helps us in our weakness and intercedes for us, according to God’s will!
Blessing: He strengthens you with purpose (Rom8:11-13; Eph3:16, 20)
Blessing: He helps you in our weaknesses (Rom8:26-27)
Responsibility: Keep the temple holy (1Cor3:16-17)
1 Corinthians 3:16–17 NASB95
16 Do you not know that you are a temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? 17 If any man destroys the temple of God, God will destroy him, for the temple of God is holy, and that is what you are.
You are Holy, you are the temple, so keep the temple holy!
Responsibility: Glorify God with our body (1Cor6:18-20)
1 Corinthians 6:18–19 NASB95
18 Flee immorality. Every other sin that a man commits is outside the body, but the immoral man sins against his own body. 19 Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own?
1 Corinthians 6:20 NASB95
20 For you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body.
Responsibility: Glorify God with our body (1Cor6:18-20)
Responsibility: To walk in the Spirit and allow the Spirit to produce fruit in you (Gal5:16-18, 22-25)
Galatians 5:16–18 NASB95
16 But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh. 17 For the flesh sets its desire against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, so that you may not do the things that you please. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the Law.
Let the spirit produce the fruit in your lives, love, joy, peace, patience, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control having put to death the things of the flesh through the power and working of the Spirit in us.
Responsibility: To walk in the Spirit and allow the Spirit to produce fruit in you (Gal5:16-18, 22-25)
Spirits fruit enhanced growth through fixing our thinking on the things of the Spirit (Rom8:5-6; Eph6:17)
Romans 8:5–6 NASB95
5 For those who are according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who are according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. 6 For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace,
Part of setting your mind is filling your mind and your heart with the sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God.
