Romans 12:1–2 ESV
I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
INTRODUCTION

A VERY IMPORTANT APPEAL

Romans 12:1–2 ESV
I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

TRANSFORMED INTO WHAT?

A Person with the mind of Christ
Philippians 2:5–8 ESV
Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.
Philippians 2:5 ESV
Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus,
Paul provides more indication of what a Christ-minded person looks and acts like
As you read the next passage of scripture, read it with serious introspection and self-examination.
Ask yourself, “Am I the Christian Paul is describing in this passage of scripture”
Romans 12:9–21 ESV
Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good. Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor. Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord. Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer. Contribute to the needs of the saints and seek to show hospitality. Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them. Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep. Live in harmony with one another. Do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly. Never be wise in your own sight. Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all. If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.” To the contrary, “if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals on his head.” Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

So…how did you do?

DON’T BE ON A SPIRITUAL STARVATION DIET

Romans 12:9-12
Some may say “It doesn’t take all of that” or “I’m just not that compelled to be like that”
Matthew 5:6 ESV
“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.
Matt 5:6
Philippians 3:13–14 ESV
Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
Phil 3:13-14

WHY IS GOD SO CONCERNED ABOUT ME RENEWING MY MIND?

God’s concern for each of us is our spiritual maturity
Your spiritual growth should be of paramount concern because of the influence you have on others.
God does not want us going through religious motions. He wants us to grow up in our Christ-likeness - into the image of His Son.
He does not want us just doing the duty of being a Christian
He wants us to become like his son in our character, conduct, actions and attitude
The deliberate choices we make should be influenced by his word to become a different kind of people

THE BIBLE IS THE ONLY BOOK WHERE THE AUTHOR LOVES THE READER

John 3:16 ESV
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
2 Peter 3:9 ESV
The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.
