Sanctuary

Understanding:

Exodus 36:3 They received from Moses all the offerings the Israelites had brought to carry out the work of constructing the sanctuary. And the people continued to bring freewill offerings morning after morning.

How did the marterials and construction of this sanctuary come together?

The people gave it to Moses who gave it to the workmen.

Were the materials and labor a burden or a joy?

A joy because they gave every morning

How does this attitude effect us today?

2 Corinthians  9:7 Each one must do just as he has purposed in his heart, not grudgingly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.

Exodus 36: 6  Then Moses gave an order and they sent this word throughout the camp: “No man or woman is to make anything else as an offering for the sanctuary.” And so the people were restrained from bringing more, 7 because what they already had was more than enough to do all the work.

Was there any shortage of materials?

No,

What did Moses have to do about the offerings?

He had to tell the people to stop bringing the materials.

If God’s people gave like that today what do you think the church could accomplish?

Numbers 3:6-10 6 “Bring the tribe of Levi and present them to Aaron the priest to assist him. 7 They are to perform duties for him and for the whole community at the Tent of Meeting by doing the work of the tabernacle. 8 They are to take care of all the furnishings of the Tent of Meeting, fulfilling the obligations of the Israelites by doing the work of the tabernacle. 9 Give the Levites to Aaron and his sons; they are the Israelites who are to be given wholly to him. 10 Appoint Aaron and his sons to serve as priests; anyone else who approaches the sanctuary must be put to death.”

Who was allowed in the sanctuary?

Only Aaron and the tribe of Levi. Anyone else must be put to death.

Numbers 18:7 But only you and your sons may serve as priests in connection with everything at the altar and inside the curtain. I am giving you the service of the priesthood as a gift. Anyone else who comes near the sanctuary must be put to death.”

How did the Israelites view being chosen to serve as a priest?

A gift from God

How do we approach God’s presence today?

Hebrews 4:16  Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

Applying

Leviticus 19:30 30 “ ‘Observe my Sabbaths and have reverence for my sanctuary. I am the Lord.

What attitudes should you bring to the sanctuary?

I should show reverence being in the presence of the Lord

1 Chronicles 22:19 19 Now devote your heart and soul to seeking the Lord your God. Begin to build the sanctuary of the Lord God, so that you may bring the ark of the covenant of the Lord and the sacred articles belonging to God into the temple that will be built for the Name of the Lord.”

What were the people supposed to do before they built God’s sanctuary?

Seek the Lord with heart and soul. Everything they had.
