Introduction

Without a proper understanding of and belief that the Bible is the inspired and preserved Word of God; you can easily be persuaded by any form of teaching. It must be our source of truth for our arguments, and in order for us to be confident in our arguments for the truth we must whole heartily believe that our Source is authoritative.

It is Inspired by God

By examining the Bible we can know that God the Holy Spirit “so guided and superintended the writers of the sacred text, making use of their own unique personalities, that they wrote all that he wanted them to write, without excess or error.” (Thiessen, 1979)

Inspiration vs. Revelation

Revelation has to do with truth that that cannot otherwise be discovered and making the recipient wiser. It has to do with making known the unknown facts. Which could happen with or without inspiration because…
Inspiration has to do with the recording of truths, securing the infallibility of the knowledge conveyed and keeping the writer from making error in his communication of that knowledge.

What does the Bible Say About Inspiration

______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
The phrase “is given by inspiration of God” means “filled with the breath of God”. The writers were living oracles of God, being sovereignly guided by God to communicate exactly what God desired; therefore, making every aspect of the Bible sufficient for our teaching and spiritual growth.

What We can Conclude About Divine Inspiration

Were the writers of the Bible inspired in the same fashion as any other author found in a bookstore?
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Were the writers of the Bible simple dictation machines void of any human element?
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Was it just the thoughts of the Biblical writings inspired and not the actual words?
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Are only certain parts of the Bible inspired and not others?
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Is the Bible only to be regarded as authoritative in aspects of faith and practice in only spiritual matters and disregarded concerning science and history?
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Can it be trusted that the Bible is completely and verbally inspired?

It is Inerrant and Infallible

The Bbile stands the test of time without error and will stand as the source of truth, because it stems from the very mouth of God. It is without error in what it declares historically, scientifically, morally, or doctrinally. It can be trusted as the source of truth for all generations.

It is Inerrant and Infallible because of the Character of God

Since it has been made clear that Bible can be accounted as the very words of God we can rest assured that they are true and without error because of the Character of God. He is and always will be the source from which all truth stems.

It is Preserved

In order for the truth of God’s Word to be relevant to this day and age we must hold to the fact that God has preserved His Word.
– What do we see in these verses concerning the preservation of God’s Word?

______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
– What do we learn about God’s word?
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
– What do we learn about God’s Word here?
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
There is a grave importance to believing that God has preserved His Word forever. If It was not preserved we would have no standard of authority for this generation or the generations to come.
