Well Pleased
-The foundation and basis for our faith has to be in an understanding as God as our Father.
-In the next 3 weeks we will unpack how we can root ourselves in and begin to live out of our identity as children of God.

Pray

Stand and read the passage together
Matthew 3:13–17 ESV
13 Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to John, to be baptized by him. 14 John would have prevented him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?” 15 But Jesus answered him, “Let it be so now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Then he consented. 16 And when Jesus was baptized, immediately he went up from the water, and behold, the heavens were opened to him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming to rest on him; 17 and behold, a voice from heaven said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.”

For us to fulfill all Righteousness

Jesus models a life of righteousness begins with humility.
-Humility creates access for us and those around us to experience God’s grace and goodness.
-Jesus walks into the moment without sin and yet humbles Himself to be baptized by a man who had already sinned.
-In doing so, Jesus changes the basis of our faith from sin management to a pursuit of righteousness.
-A life focused on sin management disqualifies from the work God wants to do through us.
-A life of righteousness invites everyone into an opportunity to be used by God.

My beloved

God honors our humility with belonging.
-The second we humble ourselves and offer all that we are to God, He extends belonging to us.
-God refers to Jesus with the word beloved, which in the original greek reference meaning, “to be content.”
-God is already content with who we are the second we come to Him.
-

I am well pleased

God is pleased with us as we are.
-Not only does God accept Jesus, but he is pleased with Him.
-God is pleased with Jesus before he ever performs.
-God doesn’t need your performance, He only needs your willingness.

Application

Have you offered yourself to God?
What in your life is telling you that you don’t belong to God?
What in your life is telling you God isn’t pleased with you?
