The 40th chapter of the book of Isaiah opens with, “Comfort, comfort my people says the Lord.” God’s people were in despair. You are despairing over your father and your husband’s departure. Today is the beginning of your comfort and consolation.
When the patriarch transitions, the children lose their foundation. It is impossible to hide your grief. It is better not to hide it, but to be honest before God and your loved ones. If you will trust God and allow yourself some time, Jesus Christ will be your Balm in Gilead. He will heal you from the inside out. He will be a father, a husband, and a provider for you.
(Talk about Alton…)
Brother Reeves was a rare man of great character and personality.
Brother Reeves was like a tree planted by the rivers of water, who brought forth fruit every day of his life. God worked with his hands to make Adam. Mr. Reeves worked with his hands to create a family and add brotherhood to the community.
The bible says,
This is one of the richest men I knew.
A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches, Loving favor rather than silver and gold.
Again, the man had 11 children and their offspring.
Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from him.
Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, The fruit of the womb is a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, So are the children of one’s youth.
He married his help meet, Clara. I believe your love will transcend heaven and earth and you will be near each other throughout eternity.
Set me as a seal upon your heart, As a seal upon your arm; For love is as strong as death, Jealousy as cruel as the grave; Its flames are flames of fire, A most vehement flame. Many waters cannot quench love, Nor can the floods drown it. If a man would give for love All the wealth of his house, It would be utterly despised.
Alton is a man of God. That means he is a man of God- Absent from the body and present with the Lord. I righteous man will never die. He will live before the throne of God and his essence will remain on earth as long as his family and friends remain.

He even gave this church a wonderful gift in his children who attend her. I cannot describe the depth of your love or pain. I know
Your dad brought heaven to earth. Heaven is love, joy, togetherness, family and nourishment…
Your dad brought heaven to earth. Heaven is love, joy, togetherness, family and nourishment...
Your dad brought all of that. His love was in the wallpaper, the carpet, the refrigerator, the basement…, the grease in his fingernails.
Israel said, “My way is hidden from the Lord.”
Now, you must transfer his love to each other. You must teach it to your children and grandchildren. Instead of grieving like you have no hope, you must thank the Lord for the rich treasure he gave you, celebrate his departure like it is his spiritual birthday. Rise in faith and become a team. Put your mind and hearts together and strengthen every member of the family and make sure everyone is loved, saved and provided for.

Israel said, “My way is hidden from the Lord.”
The people felt God left them. They were too low for the God in heaven to see their tears. They felt God did no longer cared about their plight. Their survival was their own responsibility.
Grief can make you think God has left you. It is not true. God is with you. “He that keepeth Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. Jesus said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you. Even to the end of the world.”
Jesus said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you. Even to the end of the world.”
Grief can make you think God has left you.
God is never closer to us than when we grieve. “Blessed by the Father of mercies and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in our distress.” He sent his Holy Spirit to comfort you. Jesus said, “I will not leave you comfortless.”
God is never closer to us than when we grieve.
You way is not hidden from the Lord, but your life is resting in God’s hands. “Ye thou I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for Thou art with me.”
You way is not hidden from the Lord, but your life is resting in God’s hands
How can you be invisible to a God who sees and knows all? He knows you downsitting and your uprising. He knows what you can bear.
How can you be invisible to a God who sees and knows all?
Call upon God’s strength and power. Tell, him. “Father, I stretch my hands to Thee. No other help I know.”
You knew the Lord would call him home. He was 80 years old. God gave him three score and ten. He could have died 17 years ago, by God’s grace, he lived. You wanted his love to last forever. It does, just in another form. Your dad has joined the great cloud of witnesses cheering you on from heaven.
Now, you must transfer his love to each other. You must teach it to your children and grandchildren. Instead of grieving like you have no hope, you must thank the Lord for the rich treasure he gave you, celebrate his departure like it is his spiritual birthday. Rise in faith and become a team. How?
Heaven is the reward of the faithful in Christ. Look at the grace of God. Your dad was born on Feb. 2. He went to heaven on Feb. 2. Teach us to number our days that we may apply our hearts to wisdom.

You all are going to Alabama. You will have a family reunion. One day there will be a great gathering…Your father and husband is already there.
Your father is there. One day there will be a great gathering...
Your life will never be the same, You will grow closer to the Lord and each other. Hadst thou not known: hadst thou not heard…?
Wait on the Lord. For they who wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength...
God will take you high above the dark clouds of despair
He will take away the spirit of heaviness and replace it with the garment of praise
