// RECAP

Year Recap:
The Chase
our lives should be in constant pursuit of Jesus
as a result, our actions should imitate Christ
Ephesians 5:1 ESV
1 Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children.
The Storyteller - Week 1:
We learned that parables were Jesus way of sharing deep spiritual truths, but they can only be discerned with the help of the Holy Spirit
3 Parable Categories: Teaching, Gospel, Judgment & Future
Last week, we saw that Heaven goes buck wild when just one person hears the gospel and chooses to follow Jesus with their life!
The Question: If Heaven puts that much emphasis on one person coming to know Jesus as their Savior - how important is it that I be telling people about Jesus?

Message Title: Little Big
> Prayer

1. Little Yeast, Big Dough

The Scene

Jesus is on a boat, teaching to the crowds back on land
PICTURE Jesus teaching on a boat
Jesus begins to teach the following things:
Parable of the Sower
Explains why He uses parables
Explains the parable of the sower
Parable of the Weeds
Parable of the Mustard Seed
Parable of the Leaven
Matthew 13:33 ESV
33 He told them another parable. “The kingdom of heaven is like leaven that a woman took and hid in three measures of flour, till it was all leavened.”

The Leaven

What is leaven?
permeate and modify or transform (something) for the better.

It only takes a little bit of yeast to affect the whole lump of dough

CONTEXT:
in that day, leaven wasn’t necessarily a good thing
in Jewish tradition, leaven wasn’t allowed to be in bread during the Passover - the most sacred festival that the Jews had in that time (it was a time to remember How God brought them out of slavery in Egypt)
in later teachings, Jesus tells the disciples to be careful of the leaven of the pharisees and sadducees
Jesus’ use of leaven would’ve been a shock factor teaching

2. Little Bit, Big Impact

it only takes a little bit to make a big impact
it only takes a little bit to make a big impact
Have you ever thought about how you got somewhere or built a certain habit?

It Starts with a Small Thought

“Watch your thoughts, they become your words;
watch your words, they become your actions;
watch your actions, they become your habits;
watch your habits, they become your character;
watch your character, it becomes your destiny.”
― Lao Tzu
The simplest little thought has the potential to guide your life to its destiny!
Your positive thoughts can lead you to a positive destiny.
Your negative thoughts can lead you to a negative destiny.

God Cares About the Small Things

The parable before this, Jesus talks about the tiny mustard seed that becomes the biggest garden plant.
Last week we saw how much Heaven celebrates the one.

3. Little Step, Big Fulfillment

Matthew 13:33 ESV
33 He told them another parable. “The kingdom of heaven is like leaven that a woman took and hid in three measures of flour, till it was all leavened.”
Three measures of flour would’ve been enough to make bread for 100 people! This example Jesus gives associates the Kingdom of Heaven as something that is way bigger than one person!
this is so exciting because we are a small part of the bigger picture - what and honor!

Every Christian’s Purpose

Every Christian’s purpose in life is to bring Glory to God
1 Corinthians 6:19–20 ESV
19 Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, 20 for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.
When we bring Glory to God, our lives are fulfilled - we are fulfilling our purpose in life.
A football player doesn’t care how many 3-pointers in basketball he can make. It doesn’t help fulfill his purpose as a football player.
In the same way, a gymnast doesn’t care how well they can dive off the high dive. It doesn’t fulfill her purpose!
As Christians - we have to evaluate our lives and ask...
Are we fulfilling our purpose in life?
Is my life bringing Glory to God?

Bringing Glory to God

Our lives should point others to God - if you’ve ever had the honor of leading someone into a relationship with Christ and see them grow - it is the most fulfilling thing I’ve ever experienced.
If you’re a Christian that reads their Bible, listens to Christian music, prays every day, but you’re making disciples - you’re becoming spiritually constipated.

Small Steps to Move Others to Christ
