1 Corinthians 12:4–11 NASB95
4 Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5 And there are varieties of ministries, and the same Lord. 6 There are varieties of effects, but the same God who works all things in all persons. 7 But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. 8 For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, 10 and to another the effecting of miracles, and to another prophecy, and to another the distinguishing of spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, and to another the interpretation of tongues. 11 But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually just as He wills.

III. Gifts of Power

1. Faith

to another faith by the same Spirit.
This faith speaks of the supernatural ability to believe Gods without human doubting, unbelief, and reason.
I’ll just say that sometime believing is not the issue, but unbelief.
Mark 9:23–24 NASB95
23 And Jesus said to him, “ ‘If You can?’ All things are possible to him who believes.” 24 Immediately the boy’s father cried out and said, “I do believe; help my unbelief.”
Mark 11:23 NASB95
23 “Truly I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says is going to happen, it will be granted him.
Matthew 21:21 NASB95
21 And Jesus answered and said to them, “Truly I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what was done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and cast into the sea,’ it will happen.
James 1:6 NASB95
6 But he must ask in faith without any doubting, for the one who doubts is like the surf of the sea, driven and tossed by the wind.
james 1:
unbelief
This is not the faith that all Christian’s have in Christ.
Romans 12:3 NASB95
3 For through the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think more highly of himself than he ought to think; but to think so as to have sound judgment, as God has allotted to each a measure of faith.
It seems that Paul implies that some Christian don’t have it and others do.
It seems that Paul implies that some Christian don’t have it and others do.
This is speaking of a special endowment of faith for accomplishing some task.

1 Corinthians 13:2 NASB95
2 If I have the gift of prophecy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge; and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing.
Dr. Daniel Whitby says, “that {which} came upon the apostles when any difficult matter was to be performed, which inwardly assured them that God’s power would assist them in the performance of it.”
One with the gift of Faith is not only grace to believe without doubting but also has to ability to increase the faith of others.
ro 10:14-17
Romans 10:14–17 NASB95
14 How then will they call on Him in whom they have not believed? How will they believe in Him whom they have not heard? And how will they hear without a preacher? 15 How will they preach unless they are sent? Just as it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news of good things!” 16 However, they did not all heed the good news; for Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed our report?” 17 So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.

2. The Gift of Healing

The supernatural power of healing all manner of sickness.
This gift is release the power of Christ and the kingdom of God, to cure diseases and to break the curse and the yoke of infirmities.
mark
Mark 16:18 NASB95
18 they will pick up serpents, and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”
Notice, “they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”
This “they” is the body of Christ.
This is Jesus’ promise in the Great Commissioned.
He tells the church to DO these things
Go preach
Baptise
Cast out Demons
Speak in new tongues
He promises protection from serpent and deadly drinks.
Lay hands on the sick
John 14:12 NASB95
12 “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do, he will do also; and greater works than these he will do; because I go to the Father.
When the church is functioning as it should be should be seeing healings be released in our body.
James 5:14–15 NASB95
14 Is anyone among you sick? Then he must call for the elders of the church and they are to pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord; 15 and the prayer offered in faith will restore the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up, and if he has committed sins, they will be forgiven him.
james 5:14

3. Working of Miracles

This is the supernatural power to intervene in the ordinary course of nature and to counteract nature laws if necessary.
Matthew 17:20 NASB95
20 And He said to them, “Because of the littleness of your faith; for truly I say to you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible to you.
“Nothing will be impossible to you.”
The ability to do the impossible. To work various kinds of miracle including and not limited to healings.
Powers by which they were enabled at particular times to work miraculously on others; ejecting demons, inflicting punishments or judgments.
Luke 11:20 NASB95
20 “But if I cast out demons by the finger of God, then the kingdom of God has come upon you.
Again the Great Commission says,
Mark 16:17 NASB95
17 “These signs will accompany those who have believed: in My name they will cast out demons, they will speak with new tongues;
Notice what Jesus tells them in John,
John 14:12 NASB95
12 “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do, he will do also; and greater works than these he will do; because I go to the Father.
Working of Miracles can be called sign and wonders.
Hebrews 2:3–4 NASB95
3 how will we escape if we neglect so great a salvation? After it was at the first spoken through the Lord, it was confirmed to us by those who heard, 4 God also testifying with them, both by signs and wonders and by various miracles and by gifts of the Holy Spirit according to His own will.
lets now look at
1 Corthin
1 Corinthians 13:1–2 NASB95
1 If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but do not have love, I have become a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 If I have the gift of prophecy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge; and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing.
I love the words of James Packer when he says
I love the words of James Packer when he says
“The Greek word agape (love) seems to have been virtually a Christian invention -- a new word for a new thing (apart from about twenty occurrences in the Greek version of the Old Testament, it is almost non-existent before the New Testament). Agape draws its meaning directly from the revelation of God in Christ. It is not a form of natural affection, however, intense, but a supernatural fruit of the Spirit (). It is a matter of will rather than feeling (for Christians must love even those they dislike -- ). It is the basic element in Christ-likeness.” James Packers
Corinthians 12 began to tell us about the gifts and their importance to the body.
But Corinthians 13 gives us the balance (that’s the most important thing) while chapter 14 gives us the order of the gifts in church.
1 Corinthians 13:1 NASB95
1 If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but do not have love, I have become a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.
Notice Paul make its clear that you can have the gift or the manifestation but not have love.
That’s why it is not important that in our desire to see the gifts released to the church we don’t forget the main thing.
And what is the main thing?
LOVE.
1 Corinthians 13:2 NASB95
2 If I have the gift of prophecy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge; and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing.
Notice Paul makes it very clear that love is more important that prophecy, word of knowledge, discernment, and faith.
More than I want to be a gifted church I want to be a loving church.
I want you today to understand something very important about God.
And that is “He is Love”
1john 4:7-8
1 John 4:7–8 NASB95
7 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. 8 The one who does not love does not know God, for God is love.
And everyone who loves is born of God. Not everyone who speaks in tongues. Not everyone who prophecies, not everyone who has faith to move mountain but every one who loves.
He who does not love does not know God…
This speaks of intimacy. You may know of God
You may know a side of God.
God you don’t know the God who is LOVE.
Love For God is express through your for people.
So what is love and how do we express it.
1. Love suffers long and is kind;
2. love does not envy; love does not parade itself,
3. is not puffed up;
4. 5does not behave rudely,
5. does not seek its own,
6. is not provoked,
7. thinks no evil;
8. 6does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth;
9. 7bears all things,
10. believes all things,
11. hopes all things,
12. endures all things.
13. 8Love never fails.
Paul says
1 Corinthians 13:8–10 NASB95
8 Love never fails; but if there are gifts of prophecy, they will be done away; if there are tongues, they will cease; if there is knowledge, it will be done away. 9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part; 10 but when the perfect comes, the partial will be done away.
1 Corinthians 13:9–10 NASB95
9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part; 10 but when the perfect comes, the partial will be done away.
1 cor 13:8-11
1 cor 13: 9-10
But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away. 9For we know in part and we prophesy in part. 10But when that which is perfect has come, then that which is in part will be done away.
When we get to heaven all these thing will pass away but love will last
I want us to focus on verse 11
1 Corinthians 13:11 NASB95
11 When I was a child, I used to speak like a child, think like a child, reason like a child; when I became a man, I did away with childish things.
Paul says here GROW UP!!!!
Stop being a hater.. get the hate out of your heart. Learn to love. Be like Jesus
1 Corinthians 13:12 NASB95
12 For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face; now I know in part, but then I will know fully just as I also have been fully known.
Stop being a hater.. get the hate out of your heart. Learn to love. Be like Jesus
1 cor
12For now we see in a mirror, dimly,
normal people struggle to love.
but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known.
1 Corinthians 13:13 NASB95
13 But now faith, hope, love, abide these three; but the greatest of these is love.
13And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.
Surely at the end of the age when all things pass away.
The question is not did you learn to prophecy?
Did you speak in Tongues?
But did you learn to do the greatest thing and that is to love
