Time will not permit me to navigate through this narrative, so if it is alright, I am going to give you the claim to the text now. The claim of the text is this; God at times will do the unexpected.
The movements of liberation have primarily functioned from the spaces of the marginalized. From the judges to the major and minor prophets, from John to Jesus, from Peter to Paul, the voice of liberation has seemingly come from the disenfranchised. Even when we look at the founders and pioneers of our cultural and ethnic movements against injustice, the movement of the voiceless have always been championed by a voice from within. Paulo Freire in his book entitled, The Pedagogy of the Oppressed, offers a theory on deconstructing dehumanization. According to Freire, “Only power that springs from the weakness of the oppressed will be sufficiently strong to free both. Any attempt to soften the power of the oppressor in the deference to the weakness of the oppressed almost always manifests itself in a firm of false generosity; indeed, the attempt never goes beyond this”. While Freire’s theory of change from the bottom up serves as a working normative in a lot of spaces, there is an implication here in our narrative that suggests that our God has another plan in mind.
God Interrupts – He pulls him from the many to one so that the one can impact the many
God Intersects – He places him at the crossroad of where he is an where he is going
God Intervenes – He provides guidance regarding interpretation because there is a difference between what it says and what it means
God Illuminates – He shows him Jesus – You cannot give someone something you do not already have
As I hasten to my close, while this man, does not represent, what has been understood as the prototype of God-chosen vessels within scripture, God shows us in this narrative that liberation for a nation can come from an unexpected place. Open door, thank you for another opportunity to share my conviction concerning Christ but I just come to let somebody know, that God is getting ready to do the unexpected.
What God is getting ready to do –
You did not pray for
You did not fast for
You did not work for
You did not give for
