The Product Of Death

The apostle Paul spent a year and a half in Corinth
About three years after he left Corinth
A delegation of leaders of the Corinthian church was sent to Ephesus to consult Paul about some very serious problems and disorders that had arisen in the church.
In response Paul wrote a letter.
Paul responds to divisions among the church
T
Immorality
Legal issues with each other
Inappropriate practice of the Lord’s Supper
False teaching about the resurrection
Also encourages the church of Corinth to provide offerings for the poor
Chapter 15 is the fullest discussion of the resurrection in the New Testament.
Halley’s Bible Handbook - “It is one of the most significant and grandest chapters in the Bible because of the meaning it gives to human life.”
Our Foundation
1 Corinthians 15:1–2 ESV
Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand, and by which you are being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you—unless you believed in vain.
1 Corinthians 15:1-
Sometimes we all need a reminder
Paul said this gospel message:
You received (face to face) / You Stand (Continue in) /
“Which you are being saved” - It’s the good news that saves you.
Salvation is both effective and progressive -

Salvation is now in the present and it is also in progress until it is completed at the Day of the Lord

Salvation is now in the present and it is also in progress until it is completed at the Day of the Lord.
Paul said you must hold fast to it.
The problem in the Corinthian church was that their faith was shaken.
The resurrection of a physical body could not be verified and their belief in the gospel was becoming vain…
The Grace New Testament Commentary A. The Fact of Christ’s Resurrection (15:1–11)

the resurrection of a physical body could not be verified, belief in the gospel would be in vain—having no purpose

You faith is your believe system… Your believe system become your though process
As a man thinketh so is he.
What is the Gospel
1 Corinthians 15:3–4 ESV
For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures,
The gospel 1) Christ died 2) He was buried 3) He was raised on the third day
The foundation meaning of the death of Christ is it’s substitutionary. He died in the place of sinners that he might purchase their freedom and reconcile them to God.
There’s is no point in jumping to and celebrating the resurrection if we won’t highlight the importance of his death.
He died for our sins
1 Corinthians 15:5–7 ESV
and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. Then he appeared to more than five hundred brothers at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have fallen asleep. Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles.

The Product Of Death
1 Corinthians 15:8 ESV
Last of all, as to one untimely born, he appeared also to me.

Take a minute and think!
1 Corinthians 15:9 ESV
For I am the least of the apostles, unworthy to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God.
1 Corinthians
For I am the least of the apostles
Unworthy to be called an apostle
I persecuted the church of God
I feel you Paul…
I remember how I was before I believed - I remember how I was was after I believed…
1 Corinthians 15:10 ESV
But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace toward me was not in vain. On the contrary, I worked harder than any of them, though it was not I, but the grace of God that is with me.
But..........
By the grace of God “I am what I am”
His grace toward me was not in vain.
Paul was a Product of death.
“I am what I am”
Whole
Healed
Free
Thankful
Loved
Forgiven

He is referring to himself as an instrument in God’s hand

An instrument in God’s hand
If you want to know if the resurrection was real…
