Introduction

Sometimes we are something in theory but we are not that thing practically.
In theory, I’m opposed to screaming at my kids. But, practically....sometimes it happens.
In theory, I like an organized space. But, practically…just look at my desk.
In theory, I believe that the Bible is God’s Word. But, I rarely read/study/obey it.

Habakkuk Waits (v. 1)

Habakkuk’s willingness to shut up and listen to God.
We all need to be quiet and let God’s Word speak.
Takes time and it takes patience and it takes humility.
Habakkuk also had an expectation that God would speak.
Do you expect God’s voice?
C.S. Lewis - 4 types of people.
But, what was his posture towards God?
I’m going to see what He will say to me and then what I will answer back to Him.
He’s already displayed this audacity, and it looks that he will again.
The question of authority when it comes to the Word of God.
We too often want to view the Bible as a beginning point in a negotiation.

God’s Response (vv. 2-5)

God’s Word is to be preserved.
God’s Word is to be taken.
God’s Word is to be awaited.
The Righteous are known by their Faithful living.

Five Woes (vv. 6-20)

The Pillar Pillaged (vv. 6-8)
The Fortified Dismantled (vv. 9-11)
The Civilized Demoralized (vv. 12-14)
The Shameless Defamed (vv. 15-17)
The Idolatrous Powerless (vv. 18-20)
Habakkuk 2:20 ESV
But the Lord is in his holy temple; let all the earth keep silence before him.”

Conclusion

Louisville - SBTS under a tornado warning. Advised to take shelter under ESV study Bible.
God’s Word is actually like that. There is no safer place than to be under it.
It protects us, but it also requires us to humble ourselves to seek it.
God’s answer was sufficient. Next week, Habakkuk’s response to the LORD.
