WILL THE REAL GOSPEL PLEASE STAND part 11

The Weak and Miserable Principles

Opening Scriptures
Weak and miserable principles
Galatians 4:9 NIV - Anglicised
But now that you know God—or rather are known by God—how is it that you are turning back to those weak and miserable principles? Do you wish to be enslaved by them all over again?
Basic principles of this world and will perish with use
Colossians 2:20–23 NIV - Anglicised
Since you died with Christ to the basic principles of this world, why, as though you still belonged to it, do you submit to its rules: “Do not handle! Do not taste! Do not touch!”? These are all destined to perish with use, because they are based on human commands and teachings. Such regulations indeed have an appearance of wisdom, with their self-imposed worship, their false humility and their harsh treatment of the body, but they lack any value in restraining sensual indulgence.
In slavery under the basic principles of this world
Galatians 4:3 NIV - Anglicised
So also, when we were children, we were in slavery under the basic principles of the world.

1. WHY IS THE LAW WEAK?

1. The law gives you a weak perspective of yourself.

The law is like a robber coming to your house and using you own handkerchief to blind fold you

1. The law aroused sinful passions

Sinful passions aroused by the law
Romans 7:5 NIV - Anglicised
For when we were controlled by the sinful nature, the sinful passions aroused by the law were at work in our bodies, so that we bore fruit for death.

2. The law made sin increase

Romans 5:20 NIV - Anglicised
The law was added so that the trespass might increase. But where sin increased, grace increased all the more,

3. The law was powerless to help us

What the law was powerless to do
Romans 8:1–4 NIV - Anglicised
Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death. For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the sinful nature, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful man to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in sinful man,in order that the righteous requirements of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the sinful nature but according to the Spirit.
Why?

2. WHY IS THE LAW MISERABLE?

1. The law gives you a miserable perspective of yourself

UGLY DUCKLING.... The law tells you you are ugly
He saw himself as ugly…
Your Idea (eye-dea) becomes your eyes… your view of life
The way you see yourself is how others view you.

2. The law put man under a curse

All who rely on observing the law are under a curse
Galatians 3:10 NIV - Anglicised
All who rely on observing the law are under a curse, for it is written: “Cursed is everyone who does not continue to do everything written in the Book of the Law.”

3. The law brings punishment to those who try to obey it

The law brings punishment to those who try to obey it
Romans 4:15 NIV - Anglicised
because law brings wrath. And where there is no law there is no transgression.

4. The law makes us slaves

In slavery under the basic principles of this world
Galatians 4:3 NIV - Anglicised
So also, when we were children, we were in slavery under the basic principles of the world.
UGLY DUCKLING....
The Ugly Duckling stayed the ugly duckly Until someone helped him see his reflection in the water did he realize who he realize who he really was.

5. Living by the law is foolish

Are you so foolish, after beginning with the Spirit

3. WHAT IS THE REMEDY?

1. Recognize that Christ is the end of the law

Christ is the end of the law
Romans 10:4 NIV - Anglicised
Christ is the end of the law so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes.
By abolishing in his flesh the law
Ephesians 2:14–16 NIV - Anglicised
For he himself is our peace, who has made the two one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility, by abolishing in his flesh the law with its commandments and regulations. His purpose was to create in himself one new man out of the two, thus making peace, and in this one body to reconcile both of them to God through the cross, by which he put to death their hostility.

2. Accept your death to the law

Written code and regulations were nailed to the cross
Colossians 2:13–14 NIV - Anglicised
When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your sinful nature, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, having cancelled the written code, with its regulations, that was against us and that stood opposed to us; he took it away, nailing it to the cross.
Our old self was crucified with him
Romans 6:1–8 NIV - Anglicised
What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning, so that grace may increase? By no means! We died to sin; how can we live in it any longer? Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptised into Christ Jesus were baptised into his death? We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life. If we have been united with him like this in his death, we will certainly also be united with him in his resurrection. For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin— because anyone who has died has been freed from sin. Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him.
Died with Christ to the basic principles of this world
Colossians 2:20 NIV - Anglicised
Since you died with Christ to the basic principles of this world, why, as though you still belonged to it, do you submit to its rules:

3. Choose the life of freedom the law

1. Recognize The Law Is Only A Shadow (picture) Of The Real (fools gold)

Shadow of the thinks that were to come… The reality is found in Christ.
Colossians 2:16–17 NIV - Anglicised
Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day. These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ.

2. Kick The Law Out

Get rid of the slave woman and her son
Galatians 4:30 NIV - Anglicised
But what does the Scripture say? “Get rid of the slave woman and her son, for the slave woman’s son will never share in the inheritance with the free woman’s son.”
The only way to avoid breaking the law is to have no law to break
Romans 4:15 NIV - Anglicised
because law brings wrath. And where there is no law there is no transgression.

3. Keep The Law In Your Past

Former regulation was weak and useless
Hebrews 7:18 NIV - Anglicised
The former regulation is set aside because it was weak and useless

Accept your true identity in Christ

A black eagle in Pretoria zoo for 10 years was finally let out into the wild…
It wasn’t until it it heard the call of another eagle that it flew into it’s new freedom…
(Gospel.. Call of God in the glorious freedom of our original identity in God)
If any man be in Christ
2 Corinthians 5:17 NIV - Anglicised
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!
There is therefore now no condemnation
Romans 8:1 NIV - Anglicised
Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus,
Christ in you the hope of Glory
Colossians 1:27 NIV - Anglicised
To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.
A black eagle in Pretoria zoo for 10 years was finally let out into the wild… It wouldn’t fly from the crate it was in because it was preconditioned it’s whole life to live in a cage. (law and condemnation)
