Matthew 7:21–23 (ESV)
21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ 23 And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’
Lord, Lord = Son of God and Savior of the world.
Face to Face:
Face to face is not hearing God necessarily.
You can here His voice and not be in that face to face posture.
Example:
When you are trying to help your child see a truth in their life. They can hear you and what you are saying with out connecting to you.
The could even repeat what you say, but they do not let your love for them sink.
You can see this connection in their eyes or their lack of connection in their eyes.
This is true for you and Jesus as well.
Seeing him often feels like a dyeing to self first.
Moses was face was changed by being in God’s presence.
Jesus face was changed by being in Father’s presence.
We are changed when we are face to face with Jesus.
In trying to see Jesus face to face we often get stuck.
More often, we hear from Jesus then we pull away.
This is where help from those who have found Jesus face to face helps.
Let’s see what is right after this verse.
24 “Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. 26 And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. 27 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.”
If we hear and respond we are in that face to face with Jesus.
If we hear and do not want to respond some part of us is not willing to be face to face with Jesus.
If your praying for something sure and stable. You want to know the right answer or right way then you can be confident.
You dont need the answer you need Jesus face to face.
Some people are asking for stability.
Some people are asking for confidence.
Some people are asking for meaning and purpose.
Some people are asking for endurance and strength.
Some people are asking for happiness and joy.
Some people are asking for the right answers.
The real answer to all these things is Jesus.
There are many who look like they have the answers but are not known by Jesus.
I dont want that to be my life’s story. I want to really know Jesus.
“Those who obey my commands love Me.” John 14:15; 15:10; 1 John 3:22, 24; 5:3; Rev 12:17; 14:12
3 For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments; and His commandments are not burdensome.
Like the child ringing the video door bell. That is a great picture of being face to face with Jesus.
Closing:
Face to face with Jesus is the answer to all our questions and needs.
Face to face with Jesus is where He is asking us to be.
Face to face with Jesus is where I want to live from.
If you used to connect to Jesus in a way you cant seem to any more, that is not a rejection from Jesus, that is an invitation to a deeper connection to Him.
He did the same thing with Cane. He marked him to save his life. He made it so Cane could not longer get his identity from the work of his hands. That was an invitation not rejection.

16 Therefore thus says the Lord God, “Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone, a tested stone, A costly cornerstone for the foundation, firmly placed. He who believes in it will not be disturbed. 17 “I will make justice the measuring line And righteousness the level; Then hail will sweep away the refuge of lies And the waters will overflow the secret place.
3 By this we know that we have come to know Him, if we keep His commandments. 4 The one who says, “I have come to know Him,” and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him; 5 but whoever keeps His word, in him the love of God has truly been perfected. By this we know that we are in Him:
15 “If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.
10 “If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love; just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love.
22 and whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do the things that are pleasing in His sight.
24 The one who keeps His commandments abides in Him, and He in him. We know by this that He abides in us, by the Spirit whom He has given us.
17 So the dragon was enraged with the woman, and went off to make war with the rest of her children, who keep the commandments of God and hold to the testimony of Jesus.
12 Here is the perseverance of the saints who keep the commandments of God and their faith in Jesus.
