Introduction

Greetings…
We have been studying the “Beatitudes Of The Bible” and up to this point we have see the blessings that come forth from…
Taking refuge in God ().
Dwelling in God’s house ().
Finding strength in our God ().
Knowing the festal shout ().
Observing justice or obeying His law ().
Today we will be looking at “Blessed Are Those Whose Way Is Blameless” ().
Psalm 119:1–2 ESV
1 Blessed are those whose way is blameless, who walk in the law of the Lord! 2 Blessed are those who keep his testimonies, who seek him with their whole heart,
The English word “blameless” is found translated as such 52 times (ESV), 49 times (NKJV), and 50 times (NASB).
In other words it isn’t an uncommon word found in the Bible.
With this in mind let’s examine our lesson for today.

Blessed Are The Blameless

What does blameless mean?

When describing expectations for humanity it is hard to grasp God using this word for those created in “His image.”
After all everyone that reaches the age of accountability will sin. ().
Even those that obey the gospel will still sin (, ).
So what exactly does this word blameless mean?
Mounce’s Lexicon defines it as, “without defect, blameless, perfect.”
Lexham Analytical Lexicon defines it as, “complete, unscathed, intact, blameless, without fault…”
Dictionary of Biblical Languages states, “without defect, blameless, perfect…”
The KJV & NKJV translate this word as “undefiled.”
How can those that defile their spiritual selves be blameless and find happiness i.e. blessings?
This is done by way of…

The blood of Christ.

Throughout the Old Testament God proclaimed “life is in the blood.”
Genesis 9:4 ESV
4 But you shall not eat flesh with its life, that is, its blood.
Deuteronomy 12:23 ESV
23 Only be sure that you do not eat the blood, for the blood is the life, and you shall not eat the life with the flesh.
In the book of Leviticus we see the reason more clearly explained.
Leviticus 17:11–12 ESV
11 For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it for you on the altar to make atonement for your souls, for it is the blood that makes atonement by the life. 12 Therefore I have said to the people of Israel, No person among you shall eat blood, neither shall any stranger who sojourns among you eat blood.
Leviticus 17:13–14 ESV
13 “Any one also of the people of Israel, or of the strangers who sojourn among them, who takes in hunting any beast or bird that may be eaten shall pour out its blood and cover it with earth. 14 For the life of every creature is its blood: its blood is its life. Therefore I have said to the people of Israel, You shall not eat the blood of any creature, for the life of every creature is its blood. Whoever eats it shall be cut off.
Notice that it is “the blood that makes atonement by the life”
Now while Christ was here on earth He made it clear that His blood would bring spiritual life to the sin filled world.
John 6:53–54 ESV
53 So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. 54 Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.
Matthew 26:27–28 ESV
27 And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he gave it to them, saying, “Drink of it, all of you, 28 for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.
Christ’s blood brought the new eternal covenant.
Hebrews 13:20 ESV
20 Now may the God of peace who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great shepherd of the sheep, by the blood of the eternal covenant,
Christ’s blood washes away the sins of the obedient.
Acts 22:16 NKJV
16 And now why are you waiting? Arise and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on the name of the Lord.’
Christ’s blood redeems mankind.
Galatians 4:4–5 ESV
4 But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, 5 to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons.
Knowing all this helps then understand how we are blessed by being blameless.

Blessings in Christ.

When we obey the gospel, as we just read, are sins are washed away but that isn’t end of the “power of life in Christ’s blood.”
As we talked about earlier, we all will sin and that includes after we have obeyed the gospel but the beauty of Christ’s sacrifice and His blood is that it continues to flow for those that seek redemption in it.
1 John 1:7 ESV
7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.
There is only one way to get into heaven and that is if we are “perfect” in the sight of God.
Matthew 5:48 ESV
48 You therefore must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.
We cannot be perfect on our own but through the blood of Christ we can and we can then not only know we are free from sin and death but fill that too.
Is there any greater joy or blessing than knowing we are perfected by the blood of Christ?

Summary

So how do “we, God’s children,” stay blameless through the blood of Christ?
We do this by “walking in the law of the LORD” or as states by keeping God’s testimonies.
Therefore…

Blessed Are The Law Keepers

Keep His testimonies.

Both & point out how to stay blameless and that is through walking or keeping God’s Word.
Psalm 119:1–2 ESV
1 Blessed are those whose way is blameless, who walk in the law of the Lord! 2 Blessed are those who keep his testimonies, who seek him with their whole heart,
It is vital that we seek and obey God’s Word in our life.
John 14:21 ESV
21 Whoever has my commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves me. And he who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and manifest myself to him.”
Matthew 7:21 ESV
21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.
1 John 2:4–5 ESV
4 Whoever says “I know him” but does not keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him, 5 but whoever keeps his word, in him truly the love of God is perfected. By this we may know that we are in him:
John 8:51 ESV
51 Truly, truly, I say to you, if anyone keeps my word, he will never see death.”
We “must” keep God’s Word but the blessings of blamelessness isn’t from just “keeping God’s Word it is doing it with our “whole heart.”

Seeking whole heartily.

Many times God points to those that were walking according to His word but not with the right heart.
2 Chronicles 25:4 ESV
4 But he did not put their children to death, according to what is written in the Law, in the Book of Moses, where the Lord commanded, “Fathers shall not die because of their children, nor children die because of their fathers, but each one shall die for his own sin.”
2 Chronicles 25:2 ESV
2 And he did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, yet not with a whole heart.
Isaiah 29:13 ESV
13 And the Lord said: “Because this people draw near with their mouth and honor me with their lips, while their hearts are far from me, and their fear of me is a commandment taught by men,
Revelation 2:1–3 ESV
1 “To the angel of the church in Ephesus write: ‘The words of him who holds the seven stars in his right hand, who walks among the seven golden lampstands. 2 “ ‘I know your works, your toil and your patient endurance, and how you cannot bear with those who are evil, but have tested those who call themselves apostles and are not, and found them to be false. 3 I know you are enduring patiently and bearing up for my name’s sake, and you have not grown weary.
We must not only keep the Law of Christ but we must do so with all our heart.
Luke 10:27 ESV
27 And he answered, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.”
Mt 19:16
Matthew 19:16–18 ESV
16 And behold, a man came up to him, saying, “Teacher, what good deed must I do to have eternal life?” 17 And he said to him, “Why do you ask me about what is good? There is only one who is good. If you would enter life, keep the commandments.” 18 He said to him, “Which ones?” And Jesus said, “You shall not murder, You shall not commit adultery, You shall not steal, You shall not bear false witness,
Matthew 19:19–22 ESV
19 Honor your father and mother, and, You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” 20 The young man said to him, “All these I have kept. What do I still lack?” 21 Jesus said to him, “If you would be perfect, go, sell what you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.” 22 When the young man heard this he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions.

Summary

Blessed are those that keep God’s Law with their whole heart.

Conclusion

The blood of Christ and His mediation on our behalf allows us to be found blameless before our God if we are willing to keep God’s Word with our whole heart.
This doesn’t mean we will not sin but it does mean we will be forgiven if we repent & confess our sins () by the blood of Christ every time.
Psalm 119:1–2 ESV
1 Blessed are those whose way is blameless, who walk in the law of the Lord! 2 Blessed are those who keep his testimonies, who seek him with their whole heart,
Invitation
Isaiah 59:1–2 ESV
1 Behold, the Lord’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save, or his ear dull, that it cannot hear; 2 but your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden his face from you so that he does not hear.
Philippians 2:6–7 ESV
6 who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7 but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men.

1 Corinthians 15:1–4 ESV
1 Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand, 2 and by which you are being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you—unless you believed in vain. 3 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, 4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures,
Romans 6:3–5 ESV
3 Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4 We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life. 5 For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his.
1 John 1:7 ESV
7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.
