Built on a Rock

Matthew 7:
Matthew 7:24–27 NKJV
“Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. “But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.”
Luke 6:47–49 NKJV
Whoever comes to Me, and hears My sayings and does them, I will show you whom he is like: He is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently against that house, and could not shake it, for it was founded on the rock. But he who heard and did nothing is like a man who built a house on the earth without a foundation, against which the stream beat vehemently; and immediately it fell. And the ruin of that house was great.”
Luke 6:
Matthew 7:24–27 NKJV
“Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. “But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.”
Matthew 7:
Play video of big blue crane start video at 14:22
This is the baseball stadium in Milwaukee Wisconsin
I have been to this stadium
There is a memorial with three statues of the three men who died in this accident
This accident happened July 14th 1999
The three men that died where
Iron workers
Husbands
Fathers
It was a windy day
The project was behind scheduled
There was three different companies involved in the lift of the roof
All three companies over looked the wind
It was a combination of pushing the crane to its max capacity and the wind factor that caused this accident
The crane operator knew that the crane was not to do any work if wind gusts reached 20 mph
One hour before the lift the crane operator recorded wind gusts reaching 28-30 mph
But yet the three companies ignored these readings because they were behind and they wanted to make up some time
A foundation is the first thing that is built when you begin to build a building or house
They say is takes anywhere from 30-40 percent of the time for the overall project
The crazy thing about the foundation is it is so important and it is the first thing that is to be built but after the house or building is built it is the one thing you will never see again.
It is covered up and you will never see it again unless you tear the whole structure down and dig it up
The only time you will know if the foundation is good is when it is tested
They don’t have the same building codes as we do and the laws of foundation are not the same as the laws here.
Matthew 16:13–18 NKJV
When Jesus came into the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, saying, “Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?” So they said, “Some say John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Jesus answered and said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven. And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.
Matthew 16:13-
Joshua 4:5–9 NKJV
and Joshua said to them: “Cross over before the ark of the Lord your God into the midst of the Jordan, and each one of you take up a stone on his shoulder, according to the number of the tribes of the children of Israel, that this may be a sign among you when your children ask in time to come, saying, ‘What do these stones mean to you?’ Then you shall answer them that the waters of the Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of the Lord; when it crossed over the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off. And these stones shall be for a memorial to the children of Israel forever.” And the children of Israel did so, just as Joshua commanded, and took up twelve stones from the midst of the Jordan, as the Lord had spoken to Joshua, according to the number of the tribes of the children of Israel, and carried them over with them to the place where they lodged, and laid them down there. Then Joshua set up twelve stones in the midst of the Jordan, in the place where the feet of the priests who bore the ark of the covenant stood; and they are there to this day.

We opened up tonight reading the end of
What we didn’t read was the beginning of the chapter and how Jesus opened up the chapter giving us guidance on his principles of the kingdom of God
Jesus told us don’t judge each other
Then he said anything you need from God
If you keep asking He will give it to you
If you keep seeking you will find
If you keep knocking it will be opened unto you
He gave great promises in
Then He went on in this chapter
He talked about the narrow way
He said enter in at the straight gate
He said wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction and many there be which go in thereat
Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it
It sounds almost like Jesus is giving very detailed instructions to people who are following Him
He warns us of false prophets
He tells us they are dressed like sheep but they are really ravening wolves
Jesus continues to tell us a good tree brings good fruit and a bad tree brings forth bad fruit
Then he goes on and issues a stern warning
He says not everyone who says Lord Lord will enter into heaven
But then he sums this whole chapter up with
Be careful how you build your house
He gives all of these instructions and he talks about asking and seeking and knocking then he says now becareful how you build your house
Verse 24 says who so ever hears these sayings of mine but not only hears them but also does them
I will liken him unto a wise man who built his house on a rock
And the rains came and the winds blew but the house stood the storm because it was built on a rock a firm foundation
Jesus was saying even if you are a wise person you might have trouble
Jesus was saying even if you are a wise person you might have trouble
but if you are a wise person this is what you need to do
First you need to know how to listen
and then you need to be a person that can follow instructions
If you can listen and you can follow instructions you can learn how to build a house that will stand
