Be Patient With Yourself

Proverbs 16:32 NIV
32 Better a patient person than a warrior, one with self-control than one who takes a city.
Patience always requires waiting.
We do not like to wait (lines, Dr’s office etc.)
Preparation happens in the waiting.
What is happening in the waiting?
What could God be preparing?
What do I need to do to be ready?

Be Kind To Yourself

Proverbs 12:25 NIV
25 Anxiety weighs down the heart, but a kind word cheers it up.

Nice versus Kind
Nice: adj; pleasant or pleasing or agreeable in nature or appearance; socially or conventionally correct; refined or virtuous
Kind: adj; having or showing a tender and considerate and helpful nature; used especially of persons and their behavior; characterized by mercy, and compassion
A “nice” person is one who conforms his behavior to what he believes society sees as “nice.”
A “kind” person doesn’t necessarily care about what “society” thinks of him; he acts out of a deep-rooted love for his fellow living beings.
You can fake being nice, but you can’t fake kindness.
Are we kind to ourselves?
When it comes to our speech, we our often our own worst enemy.
“You’re not crazy if you talk to yourself. In fact, your thoughts are “talking” to you all the time. And the way you talk to yourself is one of the most important things in your life. You can never get beyond what you think—especially what you think of yourself.” Joyce Meyer
Are you kind to yourself?
Do you beat yourself up with your speech?
(I’m always, I’ll never, etc.)

Don’t Compare Yourself To Others

Proverbs 14:30 NIV
30 A heart at peace gives life to the body, but envy rots the bones.
Facebook and Istagram
It’s a highlight reel.
It doesn’t show the blooper real.
We compare ourselves to others highlights
“We spend money that we don’t have, to buy things we don’t need, to impress people that we don’t even like.” Author Unknown
Very freeing verse.
Galatians 1:10 NIV
10 Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.
Comparison is envy and envy leads to a multitude of sins.
Who are you trying to please?

Don’t Think Too Much Of Yourself

Don’t Think Too Much Of Yourself

Proverbs 11:2 NIV
2 When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.

Pride is easy to spot in someone else, but it is very difficult to recognize it in ourselves.
It is very uncomfortable to be around a prideful person.
It is very comfortable to be around a humble person.
They draw people to them.
Would Jesus have had a multitude of people willing to follow him if he had constantly boasted about the things he did?
Exalt (meaning)
hold (someone or something) in very high regard; think or speak very highly of.
Who have you been exalting?

Be Honest With Yourself

Proverbs 24:26 NIV
26 An honest answer is like a kiss on the lips.

Remember that first true kiss?
We don’t let everyone kiss us on the lips.
It is intimate.
It breaks down barriers.
Honesty is just as intimate.
Lying to yourself is often more harmful than lying to others.
Others have a choice what they do with your lie
Being honest means:
Knowing your limitations
Knowing your temptations
Don’t try to be someone that you are not made to be.

Don’t Let Past Mistakes Define Yourself

Proverbs 28:13 NIV
13 Whoever conceals their sins does not prosper, but the one who confesses and renounces them finds mercy.
I always check my bags at the airport.
I’d rather pay than lug suitcases with me all through the airport.
Sometimes we carry our past mistakes like luggage.
The price has already been paid, but yet we choose to still travel with them.
It leads to guilt.
The antidote to guilt is confession.
A confessed sin is a forgiven one.
Are you letting your past mistakes define your present reality?

Never Give Up On Yourself

Proverbs 24:16 NIV
16 for though the righteous fall seven times, they rise again, but the wicked stumble when calamity strikes.
We’ve been taught to see that failure is not an option.
A
Failure is not all bad.
Failure is not permanent.
The path of progress is paved with potholes of failure.
What happens the day after perfect?
Diet, prayer time, bible reading etc.
Failure produces perseverance.
Are you ready to give up on yourself?
Have you given up on yourself already?

1 Corinthians 13:4–7 NIV
4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
To love others, we must love ourselves, and love God.
This “agape love” never fails.
How have you been at loving yourself?
