Marriage #3 -- Partner Influence and Solve Solvable

1 After this I heard what seemed to be the loud voice of a great multitude in heaven, crying out,
“Hallelujah!
Salvation and glory and power belong to our God,
2 for his judgments are true and just;
for he has judged the great prostitute
who corrupted the earth with her immorality,
and has avenged on her the blood of his servants.”
3 Once more they cried out,
“Hallelujah!
The smoke from her goes up forever and ever.”
4 And the twenty-four elders and the four living creatures fell down and worshiped God who was seated on the throne, saying, “Amen. Hallelujah!” 5 And from the throne came a voice saying,
“Praise our God,
all you his servants,
you who fear him,
small and great.”
6 Then I heard what seemed to be the voice of a great multitude, like the roar of many waters and like the sound of mighty peals of thunder, crying out,
“Hallelujah!
For the Lord our God
the Almighty reigns.
7 Let us rejoice and exult
and give him the glory,
for the marriage of the Lamb has come,
and his Bride has made herself ready;
8 it was granted her to clothe herself
with fine linen, bright and pure”—
for the fine linen is the righteous deeds of the saints.
9 And the angel said to me, “Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.” And he said to me, “These are the true words of God.” 10 Then I fell down at his feet to worship him, but he said to me, “You must not do that! I am a fellow servant with you and your brothers who hold to the testimony of Jesus. Worship God.” For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.
In , we get a glimpse into the end of the beginning… to the beginning of eternity… with a marriage… a wedding feast where Jesus adn his bride — whom he loves — the Church unite in a fresh and glorious way.

Therein, we find our model for marriage — as Jesus relates to His bride, so husbands are to relates to our wives; as the Church relates to Her husband, Jesus himself, so wives are to relate to our husbands.

A similar scene and heavenly language as seen in Rev 19:
1 In the year that King Uzziah died I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up; and the train of his robe filled the temple. 2 Above him stood the seraphim. Each had six wings: with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. 3 And one called to another and said:
“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts;
the whole earth is full of his glory!”
4 And the foundations of the thresholds shook at the voice of him who called, and the house was filled with smoke. 5 And I said: “Woe is me! For I am lost; for I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts!”
6 Then one of the seraphim flew to me, having in his hand a burning coal that he had taken with tongs from the altar. 7 And he touched my mouth and said: “Behold, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away, and your sin atoned for.”
8 And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here I am! Send me.”
Isaiah 6:1-
The Model, Words, and Spirit of Jesus are the most influential items in our lives.
Importantly, God’s people also powerfully influence the Lord.
Importantly, God’s people also powerfully influence the Lord.
JESUS WAS INFLUENCED BY HIS DISCIPLES AS… HIS FRIENDS.
13 Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.
Jesus sees us with compassion ()… — He has compassion on us… and he is influenced.
The model shapes and directs the relationship we have with our spouse — to influence one another.
The model shapes and directs the relationship we have with our spouse — to influence one another.
Have you ever thought about how a refusal or hesitancy to be influenced by your spouse negatively affects your marriage and relationship?
Secrets, Nagging, Belittling, Avoidance, Distancing, Insults, Back-biting, Back-stabbing, Loneliness, Helplessness…
Influence can carry Conflict. No doubt. But it can also promote all kinds of creativity, connection, communication, problem-solving, problem-facing, team-work… and friendship.
This is the single greatest influencer of a marriage that endures and prevails through marriages many transitions — are you and your spouse friends?

Marriages, now, are asked to carry so many things — where your spouse has to be your ‘everything.’

The thing you most need to be over the years is friends and companions.

THESE ARE ALL ASPECTS OF FRIENDSHIP
Deatrick — This is how “friends” behave… think… act… care...
“Ken, here is the problem --- I just don’t like them.”
“Ken, here is the problem --- I just don’t like them.”
Right out of the gate, I might remind you of our model… and that model may include Jesus not really liking you. So, you think he just ignores you?
21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Matt
19 “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal,
You want your heart to like/love your spouse and be open to them and their influence?
Invest some treasure… the same kind you would in an actual friendship. You invest your, and your heart will follow.
Friendship is a tremendous basis on which to handle and face problems.
Friendship is a tremendous basis on which to handle and face problems.
Two kinds of problems:
Those you can solve
Those which are unsolvable — 69% of marital problems are unsolvable.
5. Solve your solvable problems
5. Solve your solvable problems
7 Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says,
“Today, if you hear his voice,
8 do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion,
on the day of testing in the wilderness,
9 where your fathers put me to the test
and saw my works for forty years.
10 Therefore I was provoked with that generation,
and said, ‘They always go astray in their heart;
they have not known my ways.’
11 As I swore in my wrath,
‘They shall not enter my rest.’ ”
12 Take care, brothers, lest there be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart, leading you to fall away from the living God.
A soft heart… toward your spouse… toward the Lord.
Marla and time… the angry days… Today.
