Hebrews
The authorship of Hebrews has posed a problem throughout the history of the Christian Church.
The author nowhere identifies himself in the book, yet it seems he was known to the readers.
The location of this group of people seems to be Jerusalem.
One of the reasons for this letter was to prepare Jewish Christians for the approaching destruction of Jerusalem.
Also the book is to demonstrate the superiority of Christ and Christianity over Judaism
Interesting: Romans was addressed to the capital of the gentile world; Hebrews, to the capital of the Jewish nation.
6 Key observations
The book follows an argument from a Jewish standpoint.
The book uses Old Testament quotations.
The has extensive mention of the levitical priesthood.
The book has extensive mention of angels, miracles, high priest, Moses, Aaron, Law, Covenant, tabernacle, holy place, sacrifices, and blood.
It contains an elaborate resume of Hebrew history.
There is a detailed discussion of the tabernacle.
Hebrews 1:1 ESV
Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets,
Minor and Major prophets.
Many times/Many ways: stretched over all OT history as God spoke in many manners: visions, angelic communications, prophetic messages, and events.

Different occasions stretched over all OT history as God spoke in many manners: visions, angelic communications, prophetic messages, and events

Hebrews 1:2 ESV
but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world.

Last days: beginning of a new era
God has spoken to us by his Son - Jesus Christ
Whom he appointed the heir of all things -
The New Testament portrays Jesus Christ as God’s “firstborn” Son (, see ); that is, Jesus holds the “birthright” and is the heir of all the Father has.
God has given Christ all of creation as a gift, because all was created for Him:
Colossians 1:16 ESV
For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him.
John 3:35 ESV
The Father loves the Son and has given all things into his hand.
The inheritance that Christ receives includes believers, those whom the Father has given to the Son ().
Through whom also he created the world....
John 6:37 ESV
All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never cast out.
Through whom also he created the world....
Hebrews 1:3 ESV
He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,
Hebrews
Jesus is the radiance: As the rays of light are related to the sun, and neither exists without the other. So Christ is the radiant splendor of the divine glory.
The exact imprint of his nature - Jesus is the physical manifestation of God.
The exact representation. That why we believe Jesus is God!
He uphold the universe by the word of his power! That includes me....
After making purification - Jesus made purification for the sin of humanity, once and for all and brought eternal salvation.
His position is at the right hand of the father. A position of authority and power.
Hebrews 1:4 ESV
having become as much superior to angels as the name he has inherited is more excellent than theirs.
The writer want to put Christ in the right perspective.
First he greater than the prophets - Now he’s greater than angels
Hebrews 1:5–7 ESV
For to which of the angels did God ever say, “You are my Son, today I have begotten you”? Or again, “I will be to him a father, and he shall be to me a son”? And again, when he brings the firstborn into the world, he says, “Let all God’s angels worship him.” Of the angels he says, “He makes his angels winds, and his ministers a flame of fire.”
The writer begins to quote from the Old Testament - The book of Psalms about how Jesus is much superior than angels
But the writer begins to quote from the Old Testament about what was said about Jesus:
Hebrews 1:8–14 ESV
But of the Son he says, “Your throne, O God, is forever and ever, the scepter of uprightness is the scepter of your kingdom. You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness; therefore God, your God, has anointed you with the oil of gladness beyond your companions.” And, “You, Lord, laid the foundation of the earth in the beginning, and the heavens are the work of your hands; they will perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like a garment, like a robe you will roll them up, like a garment they will be changed. But you are the same, and your years will have no end.” And to which of the angels has he ever said, “Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet”? Are they not all ministering spirits sent out to serve for the sake of those who are to inherit salvation?
Scepter - you rule over your people with justice
