Why History Needs to be Retold to the Young

The Condition that We Live in Today

It Feels that we have lost ground in the Struggle

The goals that were achieved because of the Civil Rights Movement have eroded

The Weakening of the Voting Rights Act

Lower Voter turnout in the states that are not effected by the Voting Rights Act

Equal Protection Under the Law

Apathy for one’s community and neighborhood

Which in turn creates a self-centeredness in oneself

Which in turn creates a self-centeredness in oneself

We now have a generation that does not know where to turn

They know that something is wrong with the conditions they live in.

They see that there is a problem

They are not the cause of the problem

They are effected by what has been done before

They are actively looking for a solution but they don’t what the solution is

This Generation is Disconnected From Their History

The Previous Generation has not Taught Them

Have not the lived out properly our changed lives

The Holman Christian Standard Bible Chapter 6

4 “Listen, Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is One. d 5 Love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. 6 These words that I am giving you today are to be in your heart. 7 Repeat them to your children. Talk about them when you sit in your house and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. 8 Bind them as a sign on your hand and let them be a symbol on your forehead. j 9 Write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.

2. Have not told them why these things are done

In other words what we have been through has not been communicated because we live our lives for ourselves in the present time and not as bridge for the next generation.

History Has a Habit of Repeating

The Holman Christian Standard Bible Chapter 1

What has been is what will be,

and what has been done is what will be done;

there is nothing new under the sun.

10 Can one say about anything,

“Look, this is new”?

It has already existed in the ages before us.

11 There is no remembrance of those who came before;

and of those who will come after

there will also be no remembrance

by those who follow them.

History Should Inspire the Next Generation
