Matthew 4:1–4 NKJV
1 Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. 2 And when He had fasted forty days and forty nights, afterward He was hungry. 3 Now when the tempter came to Him, he said, “If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.” 4 But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’ ”
Deuteronomy 8:3 NKJV
3 So He humbled you, allowed you to hunger, and fed you with manna which you did not know nor did your fathers know, that He might make you know that man shall not live by bread alone; but man lives by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the Lord.

1. The Spirit of God Lead Jesus into the wilderness.

as we lead to Jesus into the wilderness, Jesus fast for forty days and tempted.
we are coming into the Easter time. in my opinion Easter is the highest day in the christian calender.
while i don’t celebrate all types of litegicial worship; Christmas and easter are important to us.
while I am entirely and in apologetically Charismatic and more and more reformed, I do think that the spirit can lead us into times of corporate repentance and fasting.
when it comes to corporate worship I don't always feel personally like whatever i’m participating in. however, if i will give my self to the process i will find blessing there.

2. Ash Wednesday is a day of fasting and repentance.

Joel 2:12–18 NKJV
12 “Now, therefore,” says the Lord, “Turn to Me with all your heart, With fasting, with weeping, and with mourning.” 13 So rend your heart, and not your garments; Return to the Lord your God, For He is gracious and merciful, Slow to anger, and of great kindness; And He relents from doing harm. 14 Who knows if He will turn and relent, And leave a blessing behind Him— A grain offering and a drink offering For the Lord your God? 15 Blow the trumpet in Zion, Consecrate a fast, Call a sacred assembly; 16 Gather the people, Sanctify the congregation, Assemble the elders, Gather the children and nursing babes; Let the bridegroom go out from his chamber, And the bride from her dressing room. 17 Let the priests, who minister to the Lord, Weep between the porch and the altar; Let them say, “Spare Your people, O Lord, And do not give Your heritage to reproach, That the nations should rule over them. Why should they say among the peoples, ‘Where is their God?’ ” 18 Then the Lord will be zealous for His land, And pity His people.
Joel 2:13 NKJV
13 So rend your heart, and not your garments; Return to the Lord your God, For He is gracious and merciful, Slow to anger, and of great kindness; And He relents from doing harm.

3. why do we observe lent?

Many people won’t fast without a reason!

in Matthew 4 the Spirit Led Jesus into the desert to fast and be tempted.

many people I know have never felt led to fast.

that’s one of the reasons we call times of repentance and fasting.
