Wedding  Sarah Elliot / Derrick Lundstrom  9.29.01

Texts: Eccl 3.1-8 1 Cor 13.1-13

For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven…

Time for everything, and today finally is time for getting married

Think of all the time it has taken to bring you to this day

play back the years…

picture two 8th grade kids, meeting at a 7-11 before school one cool morning

girl says she is cold, and the boy gives her his coat

and from that Time, we begin to mark time of Sarah and Derrick being together, times of weep, laugh, mourn, dance, seek, lose, silence and speak until we get to this time today, here and now, time for marriage, a time for love

but when say love, talking about an action, not just a feeling

LUV as a feeling is okay, desirable BUT LUV is fickle

LOVE is an action and it is this love that is described in 1 Cor 13:

Love is patient; love is kind; love is not envious or boastful or arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice in wrongdoing, but rejoices in the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

A goal of Xn life in general and Xn couple and Xn family in particular is to have this love become natural but it always remains something we practice, choose to do, that we are commanded to do: Love one another!

But know that w/ every command God gives, God also gives the way to make it possible to keep

consider J’s words in Matt 19: What God has joined together, let no one put asunder.

one hand: hard command: let no one put asunder

command addressed to you and to all gathered here

BUT hear the promise: What God has joined together, let no one put asunder.

And now I hope you realize that the timeline of your relatnship is not just measured from that time at the 7-11 until today, but goes all the way back to the very beginning of time when God’s plan for you to be here together today was enacted.

Teased about Wedding service in LBW being just after AffirmBapt and just before Burial of the Dead

there will be a time for all those things and for every other matter under heaven

but thanks to God’s love for you, thanks to the times that God has planned out for you, Now truly is a time for rejoicing

And now it’s time to vow your LOVE for each other and get married.

Thanks be to God.
