REMEMBER CONGREGATIONAL QUOTE: 2 Cor 4:5-6 WITHIN THE VEIL—THE 6th SENSE INTRO: a. Our last study focused on Hebrews 8 & 9, and the Tabernacle Key verses: 8:1-2 & 5; 9:11 & 23 b. Today, we go back to the Tabernacle and look closer at what it teaches us I. THE EARTHY AND THE HEAVENLY TABERNACLE a. Heb 4:14-16 “we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens” -- “draw near with confidence” In OT they COULDN’T go near -- Holy place, Garden of Eden, Church b. Heb 12:18-29 Vs 18-21 Frightening presence of God in OT Ez 1. “I fell on my face” Isaiah 6 “I am ruined” Vs 22 Heaven was so close when Jesus was on earth! Announce birth, wilderness, baptism, prayer life, miracles transfig, crucifixion, Resurrection, ascension, STILL Close: John 14:17 “He shall be IN YOU” Vs 23-24 Welcoming nature of New Covenant with God This is not a view of heaven in future, but our relationship NOW “Enrolled in heaven” Lk 10:20 “Rejoice that your names…” “men made perfect” We are united with THEM as well…. Vs 25-29 Promises of the New Kingdom is designed to remove all that isn’t worthy of Eternal Life c. What REMAINS? God’s Glorious Eternal Temple, Eternal things, Spiritual things We are carried to the closest possible relationship with God: d. Matt 27:51 Veil of Temple torn” That which hid God from us is removed. (Sin, death) Look--- what do you see? GOD Rev 1:13-17 Rev 4:2-11 II. LIVING WITHIN THE VEIL, THE 6th SENSE What is life “within the veil” like for those who pursue it vigorously? We are priests in the Holy place, but the VEIL IS STILL DOWN a. Every day we engage the world with 5 senses-- and on Sunday we “put aside the cares of the world for a while and think of heavenly things” b. That’s NOT how the apostles did it! THE 6TH SENSE RULED 1 Cor 2:14. “He cannot understand, they are spiritually APPRAISED” c. Hebrews 6:19-20 “ANCHOR, WITHIN, VEIL” “When darkness veils His lovely face, I rest on His…” d. Idea is to start to perceive earthly and heavenly life as nearly seamless, which would change our view of everything temporal. Titus 2:11-14 1 Tim 6:12-19 e. It is literally and gloriously true that the Christian's hope is in heaven where the Lord has already entered; His treasure is there (Matthew 6:19), his citizenship is there (Philippians 3:20), his name is written there (Luke 10:20; Philippians 4:3), his Lord is there (as here, and in John 14:1- 6), and his affections should be there (Col. 3). f. PRAY, GIVE, SING, WORSHIP, WORK, “Within the veil” g. EXAMPLE, Singing: Eph 5:15-20 Drunk -- Spirit You can tell a drunk, and you can tell a Spirit-filled person! So I will sing like I will there In the fearless light of glory Where the darkness cannot find me And Your face is all I see Oh I will sing like a man With no sickness in my body Like no prison walls can hold me I will sing like I am free And while I'm waiting I'm not waiting I know Heaven lives in me h. EXAMPLE, Prayer: Eph 6:18 “Praying at all times in the Spirit” Jude 1:20 “praying in the H.S.” 1 Cor 14:15 “I will pray with my spirit, but I will pray with my mind also” So, praying in the Spirit must mean prayer that we understand Hannah, 1 Sam 1:9-15 Heavenly purpose attached i. READY TO DIE! “All my bags are packed, I’m ready to go” Phil 1:23 “I am torn between the two, having a desire to depart”
