Impending Attack
Impending Attack
Joel, brings us a message concerning the coming trouble. In these days the Trumpet was a sound of impending attack. Here the prophet announces another battle oracle—but it is the Lord’s army coming against Israel on the day of the Lord.
The locusts had darkened the skies with their swarms. But the darkness that is spreading here is the darkness attending God’s presence with his army. The day of the Lord comes at dawn, just as the locusts had come from the east
Dillard, R. B. (1995). Joel. In Evangelical Commentary on the Bible (Vol. 3, p. 623). Grand Rapids, MI: Baker Book House.
Locust damage is like a fire, it destroys everything in its path. Tonight as we consider the next forty days, let us consider that devastation is on the way. It is not locust or fire, but is a divine army, bringing forth the day of the Lord.
