1. Divers Kinds of Tongues
1. Divers Kinds of Tongues
More commonly known as “the gift of tongues”.
Leading obstetricians have stated that with every normal life that is born into this world, sound accompanies that life - sound is so significant to Life!
As long as a person lives we can expect sound to issue forth from that life.
Once we have received the HG, we can fully expect that living Spirit to speak through us from time to time as long as we are alive spiritually.
Divers kinds of tongues can properly be divided into two parts:
Speaking in Tongues for Personal edification
Can close eyes and begin to speak with tongues as they turn their attention upon Him. It’s just there- as if the Spirit just hovers in their throat and mind.
For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries.
1 Cor 18
He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church.
Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
Rom 8:26

Speaking in Tongues for Church edification
2. Speaking in Tongues for Church edification
Should be interpreted for church edification
a. Should be interpreted for church edification
As surely as God spoke to Moses from the burning bush, He can peak to His present people
The actual operation itself:
There is a distinct unction of the Spirit upon the ‘message giver’
Usually there is a total congregational awareness of God’s desire to speak.
A hush will settle upon the church
Out of an awesome stilness will come the voice of God’s message giver’ uttering words unknown to the congregation.
Following this utterance will come forth an interpretation of the message in tongues, if there is an interpreter present.
If anyone speaks in a tongue, let there be two or at the most three, each in turn, and let one interpret. But if there is no interpreter, let him keep silent in church, and let him speak to himself and to God.
Why are such regulations placed on this gift?
First of all, the message is established in the mouth of 2 or 3 witnesses.
Many who are used in this area know before even getting to church that God is going to use them.
If the message giver is inexperienced in the gifts of the Spirit, he may give forth the utterance from God before the proper time. If this happens the message will be less effective than if the unction stayed unction had been held by the individual until God, by the moving of His Spirit, made place for it.
2. Interpretation of Tongues
2. Interpretation of Tongues
It’s possible someone to speak out in tongues thinking it is for interpretation, when in reality it is an utterance from the heart speaking out burden, praise, or blessing.
Messages in tongues will always compliment a service, add witness to the sermon, or bring comfort to the people.
Messages in tongues, given under the unction of the Holy Ghost will never drive the lost away....
Therefore tongues are for a sign, not to those who believe but to unbelievers; but prophesying is not for unbelievers but for those who believe.
1
Tongues Commentary:
For with stammering lips and another tongue He will speak to this people, To whom He said, “This is the rest with which You may cause the weary to rest,” And, “This is the refreshing”; Yet they would not hear.
And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”
120 on the Day of Pentacost - Followed by
Devout Jews Out of 17 nations
And there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men, from every nation under heaven. And when this sound occurred, the multitude came together, and were confused, because everyone heard them speak in his own language. Then they were all amazed and marveled, saying to one another, “Look, are not all these who speak Galileans? And how is it that we hear, each in our own language in which we were born? Parthians and Medes and Elamites, those dwelling in Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya adjoining Cyrene, visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes, Cretans and Arabs—we hear them speaking in our own tongues the wonderful works of God.”
So they were all amazed and perplexed, saying to one another, “Whatever could this mean?” Others mocking said, “They are full of new wine.” But Peter, standing up with the eleven, raised his voice and said to them, “Men of Judea and all who dwell in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and heed my words. For these are not drunk, as you suppose, since it is only the third hour of the day. But this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel: ‘And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God, That I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh; Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, Your young men shall see visions, Your old men shall dream dreams. And on My menservants and on My maidservants I will pour out My Spirit in those days; And they shall prophesy.
Acts 2:12
Cornelius and his household (Gentiles)
While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who heard the word. And those of the circumcision who believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on the Gentiles also. For they heard them speak with tongues and magnify God. Then Peter answered,
Men of Ephesus:
And when Paul had laid hands on them, the Holy Spirit came upon them, and they spoke with tongues and prophesied.
Act
Paul indeed taught that all should not receive the Divers Tongues
to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues.
yet in the church I would rather speak five words with my understanding, that I may teach others also, than ten thousand words in a tongue.
But if there is no interpreter, let him keep silent in church, and let him speak to himself and to God.
1 Cor
But nowhere did Paul condemn or degrade tongues.
Paul in this instance is writing about an entirely different kind of tongues
I wish you all spoke with tongues, but even more that you prophesied; for he who prophesies is greater than he who speaks with tongues, unless indeed he interprets, that the church may receive edification.
I thank my God I speak with tongues more than you all;
1 Cor 14:
Therefore, brethren, desire earnestly to prophesy, and do not forbid to speak with tongues.
1 Cor 14:
We do not beleive that every manifestation in the world called tongues is of God, be we do know that in the midst of all the unbeleif and hypocrisy and mockery in these days, God has a REAL manifestation according to His word.
It is for this that we earnestly contend.
If every writer and Apostle in the NT spoke in other tongues, we certainly must say it is of God.
Some say tonges is of the devil - May I remind you that:
And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting.
And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
Cretans and Arabs—we hear them speaking in our own tongues the wonderful works of God.”
Therefore being exalted to the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, He poured out this which you now see and hear.
Actes 2:11
Actes
For they heard them speak with tongues and magnify God. Then Peter answered,
Acts 10:
2. Interpretation of Tongues
2. Interpretation of Tongues
Tongues of men and of angels:
Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal.
Some interpret by a WORD, a PHRASE, a SENTENCE, or a VISION.
Regardless of how it may come to the interpreter, God expects the interpreter to, by faith, tak the word, or phrase, or centence and utter that!
Upon taking by faith and uttering what God has given, God will then rapidly give the rest of the interpretation....
Examples of Vision p27-28
Message short and interpretation long - The Bible doesn’t call it a translation!
God uses us with our level of vocabulary or education.....
If anyone speaks in a tongue, let there be two or at the most three, each in turn, and let one interpret. But if there is no interpreter, let him keep silent in church, and let him speak to himself and to God. Let two or three prophets speak, and let the others judge. But if anything is revealed to another who sits by, let the first keep silent.
It is foolish for us to allow the flesh to glory and become exalted in flaunting the Gifts of the Spirit for self-glorification.

Foretelling
In either case, will always be in harmony with the Word of God.
Will coincide with the doctrines of the Word.
ForthTelling:
To retell that which has already happened.
Every time we preach......Anointed preaching.... stories take on life!
ForeTelling:
But he who prophesies speaks edification and exhortation and comfort to men.
Now this man had four virgin daughters who prophesied. And as we stayed many days, a certain prophet named Agabus came down from Judea. When he had come to us, he took Paul’s belt, bound his own hands and feet, and said, “Thus says the Holy Spirit, ‘So shall the Jews at Jerusalem bind the man who owns this belt, and deliver him into the hands of the Gentiles.’ ” Now when we heard these things, both we and those from that place pleaded with him not to go up to Jerusalem.
Acts
And God has appointed these in the church: first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, administrations, varieties of tongues.

1 Cor 12:
And God has appointed these in the church: first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, administrations, varieties of tongues.
And God has appointed these in the church: first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, administrations, varieties of tongues. Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Are all workers of miracles? Do all have gifts of healings? Do all speak with tongues? Do all interpret? But earnestly desire the best gifts. And yet I show you a more excellent way.
Therefore, if I do not know the meaning of the language, I shall be a foreigner to him who speaks, and he who speaks will be a foreigner to me. Even so you, since you are zealous for spiritual gifts, let it be for the edification of the church that you seek to excel. Therefore let him who speaks in a tongue pray that he may interpret.
There are frauds in everything:
But God gave us a safety guide:
Let two or three prophets speak, and let the others judge.
Caution:
Make certain you assuredly gather the facts before you harken to the voice of a so-called prophet which demands you to sell all that you have and give the proceeds to the prophet or tear up roots and move to another state, etc.
It is this type of activity that destroys faith in the genuine manifestation of God.
In the OT false prohets were stoned if their prophecies did not come to pass, bit it did not stop the true prophet from expounding what “Thus saith the Lord!”
Spirit of prophecy
And I fell at his feet to worship him. But he said to me, “See that you do not do that! I am your fellow servant, and of your brethren who have the testimony of Jesus. Worship God! For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.”
2. Gift of Prophecy
3. Office of a Prophet
And in these days prophets came from Jerusalem to Antioch. Then one of them, named Agabus, stood up and showed by the Spirit that there was going to be a great famine throughout all the world, which also happened in the days of Claudius Caesar.
Acts
Now in the church that was at Antioch there were certain prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Simeon who was called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen who had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul.
Now Judas and Silas, themselves being prophets also, exhorted and strengthened the brethren with many words.
And God has appointed these in the church: first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, administrations, varieties of tongues.
Let two or three prophets speak, and let the others judge. But if anything is revealed to another who sits by, let the first keep silent. For you can all prophesy one by one, that all may learn and all may be encouraged. And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets.
And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ;

The great error of the various tongues movements in our present day, outside of pure Apostolic Pentecostalism, is the lack of understanding of the difference between The Baptism of the Holy Ghost and the divers kinds of tongues mentioned in , more commonly called the gift of tongues. Most movements misconstrue these two entirely different experiences to be the same.
The baptism of the Holy Ghost or the gift of the Holy Ghost (the terms ‘gift’ and ‘baptism’ being used interchangeably in the book of Acts to mean exactly the same thing), is in reality the birth of the Spirit mentioned by Jesus in , promised and further illustrated by Him in John chapters 14 and 15, and culminating in actual fulfillment of experience in Actes 2:4. Peter, one of the first recipients, boldly declared this experience to the whole world; hence, “…to all that are afar off even as many as the Lord our God shall call” (

AVUse hospitality one to another without grudging. As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.
The church is a supernatural unit. It was born supernaturally, It came into the is world in a supernatural way.
It was procured by the the death of Jesus Christ, blood and water coming from his side. The church comes from His side just like Eve came from the side of Adam.
The death of Jesus Christ Purchased a powerful churchThis is demonstratedActs 2 - Mighty Wind- Speaking with Language.which they did not know.. - Demonstration of the Power of God - Healing of lame man. - Peter’s sermon - BoldnessActs 5 - Stoning of StevenActs 7 - Angelic witnessActs 9 - Conversion of the Apostle PaulAnd on and on.....This was the type of church Jesus Christ gave to the world.
Every book of the new testament except two (2 John and 3 John)speaks of the Activity of the Holy Ghost. In light of that, it is hard to understand why that Jesus Christ is preached much today as the Savior but He is referred to very little as the baptizer. When John the baptist said, “He will baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire”that was the purpose of His coming. Not just to save a persons soul but to move His Spirit in that individuals life and bring great witness in that person’s life.In many pulpits in this city today Jesus will be represented as the Savior but nothing will be said about Him being the baptizer.
