1 But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. 2 And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of. 3 And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.

13 Then said I, Ah, Lord God! behold, the prophets say unto them, Ye shall not see the sword, neither shall ye have famine; but I will give you assured peace in this place. 14 Then the Lord said unto me, The prophets prophesy lies in my name: I sent them not, neither have I commanded them, neither spake unto them: they prophesy unto you a false vision and divination, and a thing of nought, and the deceit of their heart. 15 Therefore thus saith the Lord concerning the prophets that prophesy in my name, and I sent them not, yet they say, Sword and famine shall not be in this land; By sword and famine shall those prophets be consumed.
Satan is the great “imitator” he has false Christians
a false gospel
even false righteousness
even false righteousness
and one day will present a false christ
and one day will present a false christ
Israel was constantly being let astray by false prophets Elijah had to contend with the prophets of baal they promoted a pagan religion it was the Jewish false prophets who did the most damage they claimed to speak for God, Jeremiah and Ezekiel exposed this counterfeit ministry
but the people followed them the same, Why?
because the religion of the false prophets was easy, comfortable, and popular
the fact that the false prophets preached a false peace did not bother the people, that was the message they wanted to hear
14 They have healed also the hurt of the daughter of my people slightly, saying, Peace, peace; when there is no peace.
24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.

Deception - The practice of lying or tricking someone into believing some thing that isn't true. In some cases deception can be self-inflicted

Deception
A false teacher forces you to make a choice between his doctrine or the doctrine of the true Christian faith
they twist words - changing the meaning of words
22 A little one shall become a thousand,
And a small one a strong nation:
I the Lord will hasten it in his time.
is
“when the time is right i the Lord will make it happen”
Denial
they deny the inspiration of the Bible, the sinfulness of man, the sacrificial death of Jesus on the cross, salvation by faith,
deny the deity of Jesus Christ
Sensuality
turn the grace of God into Lasciviousness, they want to satisfy their own lust and do it under the guise of religion, the prophets in Jeremiahs day
were guilty of the same sins
they profess to know God but in works they deny him being abominable, disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate
Greed
false teachers are interested in making money
they exploit ignorant people
we need to be alert and not support ministries that exploit people and deny the Savior
18 For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple.
1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. 2 Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: 3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world. 4 Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. 5 They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them.
1 I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom; 2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. 3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; 4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. 5 But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.
6 I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: 7 Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. 8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. 9 As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.
15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.
1 If there arise among you a prophet, or a dreamer of dreams, and giveth thee a sign or a wonder, 2 And the sign or the wonder come to pass, whereof he spake unto thee, saying, Let us go after other gods, which thou hast not known, and let us serve them; 3 Thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams: for the Lord your God proveth you, to know whether ye love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul. 4 Ye shall walk after the Lord your God, and fear him, and keep his commandments, and obey his voice, and ye shall serve him, and cleave unto him. 5 And that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams, shall be put to death; because he hath spoken to turn you away from the Lord your God, which brought you out of the land of Egypt, and redeemed you out of the house of bondage, to thrust thee out of the way which the Lord thy God commanded thee to walk in. So shalt thou put the evil away from the midst of thee.
