Who is Christ to You?

From Dr. MacArthur titled “A Tale of Two Preachers”
my intentions this week
We are going to look at the similarities between two prominent characters in the NT.
The purpose of the lesson tonight is to get you to understand that the answer you give to this question “Who is Christ to You?” determines where you are going, to heaven or hell.
Did God really say? Well I’m here to tell you the Yes God did say Yes Hell is a real place where the wrath of God is real, Yes Everyone of us is born bound and enslaved to go to hell. And most importantly God became my Saviour so I can avoid all of that.
The 2 we are going to look at tonight is Peter. Now we all know Peter one of the greatest Christians to ever live. In fact the first half of Acts really shows the growth of the Jewish Church mainly through God using Peter as a bold preacher. Peter converts the first Gentiles with Cornilious and his family. He died a martyrs death being crucified upside down.
The second character like was served under Christ, was a disciple, cast out demons, preached Christ is here. For three years he followed Christ, eat with Him, ministered with Him. He died by hanging from a tree. Who can Guess who this second man is. It’s Judas!!
Judas and Peter Both Seek Power-
We should not think these two men so different from each other.
Both sought power and statis, Look with me in
These idiot disciples are indignant?
Indignant- Indignation is a complex and discrete emotion that is triggered by social emotions and social environments. Feelings of anger and disgust are some emotions that make up indignation- wikipedia
They were concerned with material wealth
Both argued over who was greater:
Jesus just institues Communion and tells them that one of them will betray Him. Then they start arguing about who is the greatest.
Judas and Peter Boast.
Judas was Boastful in that he thought he was the greatest, as did them all.
But Peter was even more so
Judas and Peter betrayed Christ
Judas intended in his heart
Judas betrays Jesus with a kiss
Peter denies Jesus three times. This is betrayal
The results
Judas answered “Who is Christ?” with a kiss of unrepentance
He committed suicide never to be forgiven condemned to hell
Peter answered “Who is Christ?” with weeping bitterly over his sin.
He died a martyrs death forgiven now in glory with Christ.
What answer do you give tonight?
