Scripture:
31 At that very hour some Pharisees came and said to him, “Get away from here, for Herod wants to kill you.” 32 And he said to them, “Go and tell that fox, ‘Behold, I cast out demons and perform cures today and tomorrow, and the third day I finish my course. 33 Nevertheless, I must go on my way today and tomorrow and the day following, for it cannot be that a prophet should perish away from Jerusalem.’ 34 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to it! How often would I have gathered your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you were not willing! 35 Behold, your house is forsaken. And I tell you, you will not see me until you say, ‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!’ ”

Title: Knowing Your Purpose

SEGWAY:
Talk about me as a kid not knowing what my purpose in life was.
Looking back I can NOW see what God was trying to do in my life.
He HAD a purpose for me and He HAS purpose for me.
My life has purpose.
I have to tell you, I once felt like I had a purpose for God.
For Him to do this and do that for me!
But God has a purpose for me and you.
I want to say this to someone here this morning who needs to here this, “God HAD a purpose for you life and he HAS a purpose for you life for the future.”
Age doesn’t matter
Obedience is all that matters
Talk about “JOB DESCRIPTIONS)”How many of you have one?
What does a job description do?
It gives the purpose of the Job!
For those who have Job descriptions “what does it do for you,” or better question, “How important is it to you?”
It helps to define your purpose!
BODY:
Open up
Expound on each verse …
(Vs 31 - At that very hour some Pharisees came and said to him, “Get away from here, for Herod wants to kill you.”
Scholars would say Jesus is going about challenging the rulers and leaders of that day.
I would say he is “Ticking” them off.
The Pharisees are following Jesus! Watching his every move.
This is the same group of leaders that was found back in
As he went away from there, the scribes and the Pharisees began to press him hard and to provoke him to speak about many things, 54 lying in wait for him, to catch him in something he might say.
Throughout this section of Luke we see it!
Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.
(He speaks about them)
But the ruler of the synagogue, indignant because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath, said to the people, “There are six days in which work ought to be done. Come on those days and be healed, and not on the Sabbath day.
As he said these things, all his adversaries were put to shame, and all the people rejoiced at all the glorious things that were done by him.
As he said these things, all his adversaries were put to shame, and all the people rejoiced at all the glorious things that were done by him.
I believe the entire time the Pharisees were trying to come up with plans to stop Jesus.
(Vs 32 - And he said to them, “Go and tell that fox, ‘Behold, I cast out demons and perform cures today and tomorrow, and the third day I finish my course.)
The phrase “today and tomorrow” is an idiom meaning a SHORT TIME!
(Vs 33 - Nevertheless, I must go on my way today and tomorrow and the day following, for it cannot be that a prophet should perish away from Jerusalem.’)
“Short Time” again!
He is pronouncing his death!
He is pronouncing his death!(Vs 34 - O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to it! How often would I have gathered your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you were not willing!)Luke saw Jesus’ journey to Jerusalem as “fulfillment of a divine necessity.” The imagery of the Hen is a common metaphor for “loving protection.” (Vs 35 - Behold, your house is forsaken. And I tell you, you will not see me until you say, ‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!’ ”)This is played out in 38 saying, “Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!” 39 And some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to him, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples.

What can we conclude from all of this?
Christ knows His Purpose! For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.
2 Actions: Seek – Physical aspect Save – Spiritual aspect
Christ knows His purpose!
CLIMAX:
Something happens to Christ as he does His Fathers Will! (His Purpose)
I believe the same thing happens to us when we know Gods purpose for our life!
What happens?
A target is placed on by the enemy! (Vs 31)
Evil will try to deter us from God’s will!
Evil will try to deter us from God’s will!
The enemy attacked Christ! He will attack US!
We become assured in who we are! (Vs 32)
Christ was assured of the purpose He was too fulfill.
I can attest to the fact that I was CALLED TO PREACH.
I can take you to the moment I said yes.
We become driven! (Vs 33)
Nothing was going to stop Christ from going to the Cross.
It is what should wake you up in the morning!
We have a sense of Security (Vs 34)
Not referencing eternal security
Referencing “what we are doing”
Glory is brought to God!
Everything Christ did was to point to the Father!
Everything we do should point to the Son!
What happens when we know God’s purpose in our life?
We become like Christ!
CONCLUSION:
I believe the question that needs to be asked this morning is …..
Do you know the purpose God has for you?
I believe there is someone here this morning that God has been calling you to the ministry.
You have been running from it. You con’t get away from God’s nudging to the call to preach.
I believe there are some who God has been revealing his purpose and you continue to look away.
Not wanting to do what God is calling you to do.
You are making every excuse in the book not to do HIS WILL (HIS PURPOSE)!
I believe there are some who have walked away from the purpose God has called you too?
For whatever reason (Scared, angry, confused, in denial).
We are in, what is called, Lenten Season!
Jesus Approach to the cross, Easter weekend, all the way through to Pentecost Sunday.
This is the time of the year we see Christ doing the will of the Father.
Christ being in the center of God’s WILL!
This is the time of the year we remember Christ Purpose!
Do you want that feeling of being in the CENTER OF GOD”S WILL?
