The Source of Power in Kingdom Work: Part 2
John 14:16-18; John 16:12-16
John 14:16–18 NLT
16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, who will never leave you. 17 He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth. The world cannot receive him, because it isn’t looking for him and doesn’t recognize him. But you know him, because he lives with you now and later will be in you. 18 No, I will not abandon you as orphans—I will come to you.
John 16:12–16 NLT
12 “There is so much more I want to tell you, but you can’t bear it now. 13 When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own but will tell you what he has heard. He will tell you about the future. 14 He will bring me glory by telling you whatever he receives from me. 15 All that belongs to the Father is mine; this is why I said, ‘The Spirit will tell you whatever he receives from me.’ 16 “In a little while you won’t see me anymore. But a little while after that, you will see me again.”
INTRODUCTION:
The work of the Holy Spirit is to empower and to enable the witness.

I- CONVICTION OF SIN, RIGHTEOUSNESS, AND JUDGEMENT (John 16:7-11)

John 16:7–11 NLT
7 But in fact, it is best for you that I go away, because if I don’t, the Advocate won’t come. If I do go away, then I will send him to you. 8 And when he comes, he will convict the world of its sin, and of God’s righteousness, and of the coming judgment. 9 The world’s sin is that it refuses to believe in me. 10 Righteousness is available because I go to the Father, and you will see me no more. 11 Judgment will come because the ruler of this world has already been judged.
A- The Holy Spirit is always active in energizing the proclamation of the good news.
1- He works actively to drive the message of the gospel encounter to the heart of the non-believer.
2- This is the complete mission of the Holy Spirit in the life of an unbeliever.
3- The rest of Jesus’ description of the Holy Spirit’s ministry is focused on His work in the believer.
On the Day of Pentecost, it was the Holy Spirit’s conviction that convicted the 3000 people that the message of the apostles was true. He was the one who “pierced their hearts.” (Acts 2:37)
Acts 2:37 NLT
37 Peter’s words pierced their hearts, and they said to him and to the other apostles, “Brothers, what should we do?”

II- LIVE IN THE BELIEVER TO PROVIDE COMFORT AND HELP (John 14:16-18)

John 14:16–18 NLT
16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, who will never leave you. 17 He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth. The world cannot receive him, because it isn’t looking for him and doesn’t recognize him. But you know him, because he lives with you now and later will be in you. 18 No, I will not abandon you as orphans—I will come to you.
A- The Spirit resides in the life of the believer.
1- We are not left to outside influences, we have an inner presence of God Himself.
(vs. 17) “But you know him, because he lives with you now and later will be in you.”
B- The Spirit provides the believer is permanently resident in the life of the believer.
1- Notice that twice in these verses the promise of the permanence of the Holy Spirit’s presence is assured.
(Vs. 16) “he will give you another Advocate, who will never leave you.”
(vs 18) “I will not abandon you as orphans”
C- The Holy Spirit is not available to the unbelieving world.
(vs. 17) “The world cannot receive him, because it isn’t looking for him and doesn’t recognize him”

III- TEACH THE BELIEVER ABOUT THE WORDS AND WAYS OF CHRIST. (John 14:26).

John 14:26 NLT
26 But when the Father sends the Advocate as my representative—that is, the Holy Spirit—he will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you.
A- He is the one who brought the written word of God into being to give us instructions from our Lord.
(2 Peter 1:21)
2 Peter 1:21 NLT
21 or from human initiative. No, those prophets were moved by the Holy Spirit, and they spoke from God.
(2 Timothy 3:16-17)
2 Timothy 3:16–17 NLT
16 All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. 17 God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.

IV- GUIDE THE BELIEVER IN DAILY LIFE AND CARRYING OUT CHRIST’S MISSION. (John 16:12-13).

John 16:12–13 NLT
12 “There is so much more I want to tell you, but you can’t bear it now. 13 When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own but will tell you what he has heard. He will tell you about the future.
A- The Holy Spirit is our guide to ALL TRUTH.
1- On what to do (how to live like Jesus).
2- On what to believe.
3- On what to say.
(Matthew 10:18-20)
Matthew 10:18–20 NLT
18 You will stand trial before governors and kings because you are my followers. But this will be your opportunity to tell the rulers and other unbelievers about me. 19 When you are arrested, don’t worry about how to respond or what to say. God will give you the right words at the right time. 20 For it is not you who will be speaking—it will be the Spirit of your Father speaking through you.

V- GLORIFY JESUS AND FOCUS ON HIM. (John 16:14).

John 16:14 NLT
14 He will bring me glory by telling you whatever he receives from me.
A- The Holy Spirit does not call attention to Himself, but to Jesus.
1- The ultimate goal is that we become Christ-focused and Christ-like.
