“Overcomers and Conquerors” 1 John 5:1-5 Pastor Frank Vargo II 03/08/2020 http://freedombiblechurch.com/live/ 1 John 5:1-5 Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God, and everyone who loves the Father loves whoever has been born of him. 2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and obey his commandments. 3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome. 4 For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith. 5 Who is it that overcomes the world except the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God? Romans 8:37 37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 1. The Reaction of an Overcomer and Conqueror A. Faith 1 John 5:1a Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God John 6:28-29  28 Then they said to him, “What must we do, to be doing the works of God?” 29 Jesus answered them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent.” B. Love 1 John 5:1b-2 and everyone who loves the Father loves whoever has been born of him. 2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and obey his commandments.  C. Obedience 1 John 5:3 3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome.  2. The Results of an Overcomer and Conqueror 1 John 5:4 4 For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.  A. Overcomes the World John 16:33 I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” B. Overcomes Satan Romans 16:20 The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. C. Overcomes Death Isaiah 25:8 He will swallow up death forever; and the Lord GOD will wipe away tears from all faces, and the reproach of his people he will take away from all the earth, for the LORD has spoken. John 11:25-26 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?” 3. The Rewards of an Overcomer and Conqueror 1 John 5:5 5 Who is it that overcomes the world except the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God? 1. The Tree of Life Revelation 2:7 7 He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who conquers I will grant to eat of the tree of life, which is in the paradise of God. 2. The Eternal Life Revelation 2:11 11 He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. The one who conquers will not be hurt by the second death. 3. The Bread of Life Revelation 2:17-18 17 He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who conquers I will give some of the hidden manna, and I will give him a white stone, with a new name written on the stone that no one knows except the one who receives it. 4. The Light of Life Revelation 2:26-29 26 The one who conquers and who keeps my works until the end, to him I will give authority over the nations, 27 and he will rule them with a rod of iron, as when earthen pots are broken in pieces, even as I myself have received authority from my Father. 28 And I will give him the morning star. 29 He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. 5. The Book of Life Revelation 3:5-6 5 The one who conquers will be clothed thus in white garments, and I will never blot his name out of the book of life. I will confess his name before my Father and before his angels. 6 He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. 6. The Secure Life Revelation 3:12-13  12 The one who conquers, I will make him a pillar in the temple of my God. Never shall he go out of it, and I will write on him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, the new Jerusalem, which comes down from my God out of heaven, and my own new name. 13 He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. 7. The Throne of Life Revelation 3:21-22 21 The one who conquers, I will grant him to sit with me on my throne, as I also conquered and sat down with my Father on his throne. 22 He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.
