PrePray Introduction:
Anyone here perfect?
Well as long as you are not perfect you will always have confrontation.
our imperfection cause sin. that needs to be confronted… .
our insecurities need to be confronted or else we will never grow past them.
Most people don’t like confrontation. If you do, you are in the minority.
We can sometimes think it’s easier not to face an issue. We hope it will simply go away.
Abraham avoided confrontation by lying.
Hagar
Moses avoided being confronted of his insecurities. (Ex 4:10)
David avoided being confronted of his sin (2 Samuel 12)
Today we are going to see Personally and Publicly confront the church!
Pray
PostPray Introduction:
Judaizers (a Greek verb meaning “to live according to Jewish customs.”) were teaching the church that no Gentile can be right with God & they must become a Jew to be long to God
Judaizers were teaching the church
Now to be a Jew simply means that you are a son of Abraham…
God told Abraham that all his sons must have a sign that they are his son… which is ....
Genesis 17:10 NKJV
10 This is My covenant which you shall keep, between Me and you and your descendants after you: Every male child among you shall be circumcised;
So Judaizers who taught that every Gentile Christian had to become a Jew meant that they had to 1st be circumcised.
but it didnt stop there they also taught that you had to obey the whole law of Moses.
Modern Judaizers are the Hebrew Roots Movement, & the Roman Catholic church (baptism, and confession),
Lots of people are very close like the 7th day adventist (Sabbath); Messianic Churches, & any Christian that imposes any law (whether Biblical or some tradition like a reading plan) into being a major part of belonging to Christ.
However the Judaizers were ruining peoples relationships with God by teaching them that they have to obey the Bible to be right with God. (read more about them in )

Personal Confrontation (v.1)

Galatians 3:1 ESV
1 O foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you? It was before your eyes that Jesus Christ was publicly portrayed as crucified.

Question (V.2-5):

Galatians 3:2–5 ESV
2 Let me ask you only this: Did you receive the Spirit by works of the law or by hearing with faith? 3 Are you so foolish? Having begun by the Spirit, are you now being perfected by the flesh? 4 Did you suffer so many things in vain—if indeed it was in vain? 5 Does he who supplies the Spirit to you and works miracles among you do so by works of the law, or by hearing with faith—
Paul says let me ask you only this.... however his 4 question turns into 4 more questions.

Public Confrontation (v.6-9)

He confronts the full church and Judaizers with 2 definitive truths:
Seen in verse 6-7 & in 9
Note: remember that Judiasers that said the sons of Abraham are the ones that are circumcised
Galatians 3:6–7 ESV
6 just as Abraham “believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness”? 7 Know then that it is those of faith who are the sons of Abraham.
Galatians 3:9 ESV
9 So then, those who are of faith are blessed along with Abraham, the man of faith.
Gal
Galatians 6:9 NKJV
9 And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.
Teaching that the first definitive truth is that
The real sons of Abraham are not those that follow the work of the law to be circumcised but have faith in work that God has done for us.
2. The second definitive truth is seen in verse 8
Galatians 3:8 ESV
8 And the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel beforehand to Abraham, saying, “In you shall all the nations be blessed.”
2. Gentiles can be justified & the scriptures taught it.
The Jews hate that, deny that, they want to be the special people
Now you can see how the Royals theme verse is a slam to the Judaisers
1 Peter 2:9 NKJV
9 But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;
but guess what
So from this section we learn that Gentiles can be justified and that the real sons of Abraham are those that place their faith in God.
We can see from these 2 truths that as Jesus said “the truth will set you free” -

Conclusion:

Jesus and Paul hated Judaizers.... because they thought they were better or closer to God then others because they dont sin like so & so
Maybe you needed to be confronted with this
if you you have been too focused too much on others people sin .... take the plank out of your eye (Mat 7:5)
if you have been trying to earn God’s love - He loved you while you were a sinner ()
If you think you are a better Christian than someone else - Know that Paul wrote this book to correct a church from listening and hanging out people like you… Then read what Jesus has to say about the people like you in
Matthew 23:27–28 NKJV
27 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs which indeed appear beautiful outwardly, but inside are full of dead men’s bones and all uncleanness. 28 Even so you also outwardly appear righteous to men, but inside you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness.
If you think you have failed God, and nothing you do is good enough for God
May you leave today … freely justified…
not because of anything you did or do… but because you have faith in that what Jesus did for you was enough.
