3 battlefields of spiritual warfare:
3 battlefields of spiritual warfare:
1. Obsession - This is where most of our spiritual warfare starts, and it happens when the adversary strives to  consume  your  mind
2. Oppression - This is where it goes beyond obsession in your mind, and your  life  starts to be affected.
Possession - This takes place when the individual has  accepted  the obsession as normal. Their  resolve  has been weakened by oppression to the space that they are being controlled by the spirits that torment them

The dumb and deaf Spirit

To see the role of this particular apostle of Hell, we have to look closely at the story in which this spirit is first identified. Scripture tells us of a time when a father brought his possessed son to Jesus for deliverance. The father described symptoms that to us would seem like seizures. He told how this demonic spirit “tore” his son (which means “dashed” him or caused him to thrash about uncontrollably). The father described how his son would fall to the ground, foam at the mouth, and gnash his teeth. In the aftermath of these seizure-type episodes, his son would pine away, meaning he was drained of all strength and incapable of moving.
The Master asked this sorrowing father, “How long has this been happening to your son” The father answered, “Since he was a child”, and proceeded to tell Jesus this unholy spirit would cast his son into the water and the fire. The original Greek defines casts as “to bring about, to shove, or to let fall.” In that fashion, the father was basically telling Jesus, “This spirit oftentimes causes my son to fall into dangerous waters, and he even casts himself into the fire. It’s as though this spirit is trying to destroy my son!”
Eventually Jesus turned to the son, identified the spirit that was troubling him, and cast it out.
Mark 9:17–25 KJV 1900
17 And one of the multitude answered and said, Master, I have brought unto thee my son, which hath a dumb spirit; 18 And wheresoever he taketh him, he teareth him: and he foameth, and gnasheth with his teeth, and pineth away: and I spake to thy disciples that they should cast him out; and they could not. 19 He answereth him, and saith, O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him unto me. 20 And they brought him unto him: and when he saw him, straightway the spirit tare him; and he fell on the ground, and wallowed foaming. 21 And he asked his father, How long is it ago since this came unto him? And he said, Of a child. 22 And ofttimes it hath cast him into the fire, and into the waters, to destroy him: but if thou canst do any thing, have compassion on us, and help us. 23 Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth. 24 And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief. 25 When Jesus saw that the people came running together, he rebuked the foul spirit, saying unto him, Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I charge thee, come out of him, and enter no more into him.
Mark 9:22–25 NKJV
22 And often he has thrown him both into the fire and into the water to destroy him. But if You can do anything, have compassion on us and help us.” 23 Jesus said to him, “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.” 24 Immediately the father of the child cried out and said with tears, “Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!” 25 When Jesus saw that the people came running together, He rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to it, “Deaf and dumb spirit, I command you, come out of him and enter him no more!”
Mark 9:18–25 NKJV
18 And wherever it seizes him, it throws him down; he foams at the mouth, gnashes his teeth, and becomes rigid. So I spoke to Your disciples, that they should cast it out, but they could not.” 19 He answered him and said, “O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I bear with you? Bring him to Me.” 20 Then they brought him to Him. And when he saw Him, immediately the spirit convulsed him, and he fell on the ground and wallowed, foaming at the mouth. 21 So He asked his father, “How long has this been happening to him?” And he said, “From childhood.
Mark 9:20–25 NKJV

And when he saw Him, immediately the spirit convulsed him, and he fell on the ground and wallowed, foaming at the mouth. 21 So He asked his father, “How long has this been happening to him?” And he said, “From childhood. 22 And often he has thrown him both into the fire and into the water to destroy him. Immediately the Bible tells us the demonic spirit manifested itself as before, crying out, tearing at the young man, ultimately departing, but leaving the young man so weak that the Bible describes him as being like “one dead”.
Mark 9:25 KJV 1900
25 When Jesus saw that the people came running together, he rebuked the foul spirit, saying unto him, Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I charge thee, come out of him, and enter no more into him.
Immediately the Bible tells us the demonic spirit manifested itself as before, crying out, tearing at the young man, ultimately departing, but leaving the young man so weak that the Bible describes him as being like “one dead”.
A deaf and dumb spirit is a demonic spirit that strives to cause accidents and harmful episodes.
The biblical account reveals much about this demonic spirit when it shows us its intended results:
Causing him to fall into the fire.
Bringing about his fall into water.
Casting him violently to the ground.
Uncontrollable reactions resembling seizures.
Foaming at the mouth.
Gnashing and grinding his teeth.
Fainting-type responses.
In this description, Jesus identified the deaf and dumb spirit as being associated with these physical episodes:
Falling, Biting, Being shoved, Tearing, Seizing, Choking, Weakness
Biting
Being shoved
Tearing
Seizing
Choking
Weakness
It appears obvious, in light of these physical episodes, that dealing with a satanic apostle known as the deaf and dumb spirit means you are dealing with the spirit that specializes in accident and tragedies.
This doesn’t mean that all accidents are caused by demonic spirits. In fact, I freely acknowledge all of humanity has the potential to slip, fall, injure themselves, or have any number of accidents.
Obviously, some things happen simply because we are human.
However, in light of God’s Word, we must acknowledge there are other accidents that are a result of the deaf and dumb spirit.
If a deaf and dumb spirit is the one causing accidents and tragedies, then let us look at some of the manifestations and characteristics that operate under its direction:
Manifestations of the deaf and dumb spirit:
Accidents, Accident prone, Accidents with Fire, Accidents with Water, Blindness, Convulsions, Comatose, Destruction, Dumbness, Emotional Instability, Epileptic Episodes, Erratic Behavior, Falling Randomly, Foaming at the Mouth, Gnashing of Teeth, Madness, Insanity, Schizophrenia, Seizures, Stupors, Tearing, Temporary Insanity, Uncontrollable Convulsions, Uncontrollable Thrashing, Wallowing
It is designed to inhibit a person’s natural ability to be cautious and apprehensive. I cannot begin to recall the many times I have stood in hospital emergency rooms, homes following a tragedy, or accident scenes and heard people make statements like:
Honestly, as I began to study this particular spirit, I was a little confused as to why it was called “the deaf and dumb spirit.” However, it has been given this unique term because it is designed to inhibit a person’s natural ability to be cautious and apprehensive. I cannot begin to recall the many times I have stood in hospital emergency rooms, homes following a tragedy, or accident scenes and heard people make statements like:
“ I didn't see a thing!”
“I didn't even hear it coming!’
“I was so shocked I couldn't say a word!”
“I never saw anything out of the norm!”
Perhaps this the reason why, when this particular unholy spirit is involved, it is called a deaf and dumb spirit. I have heard a plethora of situations where someone, like the son in our story, was unexpectedly put in a situation that could have destroyed them, only to hear them sincerely say, “I didn't see a thing! It was totally unexpected.” The truth is many times it was “unexpected” to the person, but it was intentional to the deaf and dumb spirit that caused the situation.
In this chapter we will survey situations involving accidents or episodes where the deaf and dumb spirit may have been involved. Recognizing it will always require a healthy spiritual discernment.
Step 1 - When you feel an urgency to pray, pray urgently!
Step 1
When you feel an urgency to pray, pray urgently!
I shutter to think of what often may have happened had I not responded to the urgent need for prayer. Just as our young ladies walked away from the accident without a scratch, there have been many times in which prayer alone has kept precious live safe from the treacherous tragedy set in motion by the deaf and dumb spirit.
Many times God lets you feel an urgency because he is giving you the ability to pray those things away from the life of someone being targeted by the deaf and dumb spirit. I always stand amazed at how many people casually claim some desire to be used of God, but never engage the adversary of their souls on this level.
If God lets you feel an urgency to pray, you owe it to God to sincerely enter into urgent prayer!
Jesus said something unique about the deaf and dumb spirit that he didn't say regarding any other demonic spirit in the entire Bible. After he casts out the deaf and dumb spirit, Jesus added this explanation: Mark 9:29
This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting.
Mark 9:29 KJV 1900
29 And he said unto them, This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting.
()
From this we know the only way to truly overcome this deaf and dumb spirit is by prayer and fasting. Surely this is because the nature of its demonic attempts, daily setting the stage for accidents and tragedies, can only be thwarted by a covering of a daily flow of prayer and fasting.

Step 2 - Maintain an awareness of the spiritual realm around you.
Maintain an awareness of the spiritual realm around you.
Perhaps more than the other demonic spirits, this particular spirit requires much discernment.
Dealing with the deaf and dumb spirit, or at least trying to determine whether the thing you are facing is natural or demonic, will require a mixture of common sense and spiritual sensitivity.
Again, not every accident is demonically caused. Some things happen just because it is part of an active, constantly moving life. However, to know the difference between accidents caused by life and accidents caused by demonic influence, a healthy spiritual discernment, which comes only from being aware of what is happening in the spiritual realm around you, is required.
With a pure heart toward God, consistently make it a point to be aware of the spiritual world around you. Remember while your flesh is breathing air and pumping blood, the spiritual realm around you is just as real. Making sure your spirit is aware of what is going on in the spiritual atmosphere around you is vitally important to truly operating in spiritual warfare.
This need is reinforced by the apostle John:
1 John 4:1 KJV 1900
1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.
Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God.
()
It is only when you make sure you are aware of what is happening in the spiritual realm around you and “try” the spirits that your discernment gives you a needed advantage to war against the deaf and dumb spirit.
Step 3 - Trust those with spiritual discernment
Trust those with spiritual discernment
Among the most beneficial things I have ever done is to intentionally surround myself with certain people who have true spiritual discernment. Mind you, I am not talking about being hypersensitive, magnifying things that aren’t remotely spiritually-based. Nor am I speaking about people who delight in seeing demons around every corner. Rather, I am talking about people who have enough depth in their walk with God and enough love for my soul to warn me of things they may feel coming my way. People who possess enough spiritual discernment to recognize and unholy spirits like the deaf and dumb spirit at work are absolutely invaluable.
I remember a night at our church when a visiting preacher interrupted his message, prophetically declaring, “I hear twisting metal, breaking glass, and the impact of an automobile accident. I want us to pray now.” An individual walked out the end of that service critically accusing the preacher of sensationalism: “I'm just going to come right out and tell you I don't believe what the preacher said for one single minute! It's just a preacher’s way of trying to get some emotional response.”
Sadly, the very next day the same critical individual was passing through an intersection just as a delivery truck ran a red light and plowed into him. Even sadder is the fact it could have been avoided had the critical individual not ignored God’s man who had discerned the plans of the deaf and dumb spirit on the periphery of this individual's world.
Surround yourself with righteous people whose spiritual discernment you trust enough to heed.
