5 Reasons Why He Came

In Verse 45 Jesus Refers to himself as the Son of Man. He came as fully man to suffer like us. He
Each of our kids has had an emergency room visit before they were 5.
Billie fell and busted her lip.
Joseph grabbed a hot iron.

To Suffer like You!

The Benefit of Being Served

In verse 45 Jesus calls himself the Son of Man. Jesus came as a MAN. He was tempted, he was judged, he was hurt by those he loved, he suffered the pain of hunger, thirst, and betrayal. He came to be Like Us!
Similarly we must strive to be like him. To drink the cup he drinks, to pick up your cross and follow him, to die to yourself, to serve your neighbor.

The Meaning of Being Served

To Die Instead of You

This cup he speaks of is not a literal drink but the spilling of His blood. This language reminds us of the communion cup, this is definitely an allusion to his death.

To Die Instead of You

There is a line in a worship chorus that says He Lived to Die rejected and alone. Jesus came to this earth to die. it was appointed from the beginning of time that He would come to this earth, live a perfect life and die a violent death on the cross. He Lived, to die.

To Set You Free From Slavery to Sin

Why did He have to die? To set us free from slavery to sin. His perfect life is the only way that we can have eternal life.

To Show You How To Love

A great ruler doesn’t lord his rulership over his people, but rather serves them. This is how we should be toward those around us.
How many poor examples of this do we see in Christianity?
People picketing at abortion clinics
People picketing at pride events
Outspoken Facebook posters who spew hate toward those who are different than us.
Our friends who fall in this “Other” category are the first to tell us that they don’t really have a problem with the Christian message. When I unpack what I believe and talk to them about what it means to be a Christian they are in agreement that we should live that way. So, what stops them from coming to church? Christians, not loving the way Christ tells us to.
I am not telling this story to tell you I am perfect… I am far from perfect, but we have to get it. We have to understand that it is not our job to judge, Jesus will do that in the last days. It is our job to Love!

To Be Your Servant

Many times we have heard this sermon right? Jesus came to serve, so we should serve. This is not an incorrect statement, but we move on too quickly. It is incomplete and we skip over how wonderfully, dramatically important this is!
1. Our Christian life starts with us allowing Christ to serve us. It starts when we give up our own desire to serve and allow Christ to serve us.
A newborn Baby is similar. A baby must rely on parents to serve them. They cannot survive unless they are served. They have no way to feed themselves, change their diapers, or bathe themselves.
2. We cannot live without Christ’s Servanthood
He allows, He shapes, He leads
3. Prayer is asking God to Serve Us
I plead with God to make me the best spouse, the best father, the best pastor, to show me the needs of this body and community, to help me to keep a passion for this town.
4. General vs Special Revelation.
God must serve us in order for us to even believe in Him.
Jesus came to Suffer, die, set us free, show us love, and serve us. Now we must follow His example and do the same. We are called Christians, this means little Christs. Let us be little examples of Christs love this week.
