The Power of Name
Genesis 2:22–23 NKJV
22 Then the rib which the Lord God had taken from man He made into a woman, and He brought her to the man. 23 And Adam said: “This is now bone of my bones And flesh of my flesh; She shall be called Woman, Because she was taken out of Man.”
Genesis 3:20 NKJV
20 And Adam called his wife’s name Eve, because she was the mother of all living.
Did you notice that what Adam called his wife changed after the fall and the entry of sin. She was once called woman, but now her husband has decided that he prefers to call her Eve. A name is a very powerful thing. Apart from being the most commonly declared pronouncement over our lives, a name is also a description of our function and purpose.
Marriage is a wonderful example of partnership. It is the best illustration of the relationship between Christ and the church. Like our relationship with the Lord, it has its high points but it can also have its low periods. It is a dynamic institution that cannot be reasoned or predicted accurately. Solomon rightly stated that one of the most baffling things on earth that defies the mind and reason is 'the way of a man and his maid'. Everyone seems to have the solution to somebody else's marital problems, but few have a proper grip of their own. Most men would go through their married lives accepting things as they come. Only a few will realise that what they put in determines what they will get out of it. Fewer still will actually go a step further and take hold of the principles of God concerning marriage and, with determination and discipline, make their marriages what it ought to be. On the other hand, most women would live their married lives in a fantasy that, some day, their husbands will become the man in their dreams. The sad truth is that most of the time, such dreams were created by fables received from the movies, fictional books and a false assessment of other marriages. This is because most people are concerned about creating the right image rather than the right atmosphere in their marriages. Few wives would proceed to understand the husbands that God has given them and learn to flow in the force of agreement with them.

Marriage is God's design for mankind. Men did not initiate marriage and neither did women. It was not our idea. It was God's. He is the one, therefore, that has the keys to make it work. Marriage is the highest level of relationship we can ever share with another human being. It is a Godmade connection between two people.
