Gifted?

“When he ascended on high he led a host of captives,

But grace was given to each one of us according to the measure of Christ’s gift. 8 Therefore it says, “When he ascended on high he led a host of captives, and He gave gifts to men.” 9 (In saying, “He ascended,” what does it mean but that he had also descended into the lower regions, the earth? 10 He who descended is the one who also ascended far above all the heavens, that he might fill all things.) 11 And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, 12 to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, 13 until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ, 14 so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes. 15 Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ, 16 from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love. Ephesians 4:7-16

and He gave gifts to men.”

“When he ascended on high he led a host of captives,

Christ gifted us through His work on the cross. It is because of His gift - His life for ours - that we receive any gift.

9 (In saying, “He ascended,” what does it mean but that he had also descended into the lower regions, the earth? 15 Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ, 16 from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love.

and He gave gifts to men.”

Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of change.

9 (In saying, “He ascended,” what does it mean but that he had also descended into the lower regions, the earth?

He wants you to have it. He has given it to you through His Son Jesus.

More than Saved!

Christ died to do more than save you. He died to empower you - to equip you. Salvation is the beginning and it’s necessary but it is not the end.
Now concerning spiritual gifts, brothers, I do not want you to be ignorant. 2 You know that when you were pagans, you were led astray to the speechless idols, however you were led. 3 Therefore I make known to you that no one speaking by the Spirit of God says, “Jesus is accursed,” and no one is able to say “Jesus is Lord” except by the Holy Spirit. 4 Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit, 5 and there are varieties of ministries, and the same Lord, 6 and there are varieties of activities, but the same God, who works all things in all people. 7 But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for what is beneficial to all. 1 Corinthians 12:1-7
We shouldn’t shy away from spiritual gifts - we’re gifted for our own good by God. He’s the Giver - we are the receivers.

Apostle means “sent one”
