is A song of Ascents meaning a Pilgrims’s song
מַעֲלָה
מַעֲלָה
They sung this song because of a journey they had to go on.
How many miles you’ve driven
Think about how many miles you’ve traveled or How many miles you’ve driven
What does Psalm 121 mean for us today?
We are constantly going on all types of Journeys or trips today
Our Journey’s are either
Physical- Going from home to church
Natural - your life is considered a journey
Spiritual- When you got saved your spiritual Journey began God is always moving us towards him
in each case we need protection because there are plenty of things that will take us out harm us and throw us off our course
Think about how many miles you’ve traveled or How many miles you’ve driven
Studying this I thought about were I’ve been the different counties and all the airplane rides I’ve taken and began to reflect about God’s presence
Complication
[FCF] God not always first He is the Last Option
Out tendency when facing a problem is do it without God
we try and fix it ourselves
Seek help from experts or friends before God
[FCF] we don’t always acknowledge who is actually providing the protection.
Resolution
Complication
we don’t always acknowledge who is actually providing the protection.
We get comfortable or complacent
When things are going well We get comfortable or complacent
when everything is fine with our Journey through Life we tend to think there really is no danger at all or when the problems happen comes God is usually not our first choice
[FCF] The problems with my journey is this. How does it effect my marriage? My relationship with my Mother, my children and my siblings?
What kind of life journey are you on right now?

when the problems happen comes God is usually not our first choice

Celebration
Here is what’s True!
The Lord keeps the one who seeks him
The Lord keeps and protects the one who seeks him

To get the kind of protection that only God can provide we must seek him first

The lord Helps the one who seeks him

The Lord’s help
Psalm 121:1–2 NASB95
1 I will lift up my eyes to the mountains; From where shall my help come? 2 My help comes from the Lord, Who made heaven and earth.
121:
why does the Psalm say lift my eyes to the mountains or the hills? What is the significance of hills?
Does my help come from the hills or the one who made the hills?
This question and answer form tells us where the protection really comes from not from the usual places
The Hill is a place of protection - But the Lord is the real protection
King David Hid in those same hills when he was running for his life. He saw the beauty and majesty of being in the hills. They provide the necessary protection from the enemy. But David was fully aware who was providing the real protection.
This is what we need to reflect on right here! We need to be cognizant of who is really protecting us. Its not the fact that you have all those features on your Car that protects you from the dangerous highway.
You do not become safe just simply by your own effort
You become safe because of the real Helper!
a lot of us always use the wrong tool when trying to fix something
if you’ve ever used a butter knife as a screw driver
We need to seek God first

The Lord Keeps the one who will seek him

The Lord protects the one who seeks him

Psalm 121:3–6 NASB95
3 He will not allow your foot to slip; He who keeps you will not slumber. 4 Behold, He who keeps Israel Will neither slumber nor sleep. 5 The Lord is your keeper; The Lord is your shade on your right hand. 6 The sun will not smite you by day, Nor the moon by night.
Psalm 121:3–4 NASB95
3 He will not allow your foot to slip; He who keeps you will not slumber. 4 Behold, He who keeps Israel Will neither slumber nor sleep.
Psalm 121:3 NASB95
3 He will not allow your foot to slip; He who keeps you will not slumber.

Psalm 121:3-
God’s is always on the job
: 3-
Verse 3 - When we seek God first he won’t let you slip and He’s always on the job
Explanation
A spotter when weight lifting, or a fireman’s belay when Rappelling rock climbing is what God does when he watches over you. must be communication between the rappel and belay person
Psalm 121–124 NASB95
A Song of Ascents. 1 I will lift up my eyes to the mountains; From where shall my help come? 2 My help comes from the Lord, Who made heaven and earth. 7 The Lord will protect you from all evil; He will keep your soul. 8 The Lord will guard your going out and your coming in From this time forth and forever. A Song of Ascents, of David. 1 I was glad when they said to me, “Let us go to the house of the Lord.” 2 Our feet are standing Within your gates, O Jerusalem, 3 Jerusalem, that is built As a city that is compact together; 4 To which the tribes go up, even the tribes of the Lord An ordinance for Israel— To give thanks to the name of the Lord. 5 For there thrones were set for judgment, The thrones of the house of David. 6 Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: “May they prosper who love you. 7 “May peace be within your walls, And prosperity within your palaces.” 8 For the sake of my brothers and my friends, I will now say, “May peace be within you.” 9 For the sake of the house of the Lord our God, I will seek your good. A Song of Ascents. 1 To You I lift up my eyes, O You who are enthroned in the heavens! 2 Behold, as the eyes of servants look to the hand of their master, As the eyes of a maid to the hand of her mistress, So our eyes look to the Lord our God, Until He is gracious to us. 3 Be gracious to us, O Lord, be gracious to us, For we are greatly filled with contempt. 4 Our soul is greatly filled With the scoffing of those who are at ease, And with the contempt of the proud. A Song of Ascents, of David. 1 “Had it not been the Lord who was on our side,” Let Israel now say, 2 “Had it not been the Lord who was on our side When men rose up against us, 3 Then they would have swallowed us alive, When their anger was kindled against us; 4 Then the waters would have engulfed us, The stream would have swept over our soul; 5 Then the raging waters would have swept over our soul.” 6 Blessed be the Lord, Who has not given us to be torn by their teeth. 7 Our soul has escaped as a bird out of the snare of the trapper; The snare is broken and we have escaped. 8 Our help is in the name of the Lord, Who made heaven and earth.
Psalm 121:4 NASB95
4 Behold, He who keeps Israel Will neither slumber nor sleep.

God never gets tired
Have you ever been so tired that you can’t keep your eyes open? I have sleep apnea and supposed to be a cpap user.
God never gets tired He is not like a Man
Psalm 121:5 NASB95
5 The Lord is your keeper; The Lord is your shade on your right hand.
psalm 121
When we seek God first he gives us some shade he is our relief when we seek him
When we seek God first he gives us some shade he is our relief when we seek him
what is the significance of the right hand?
The right had very important in making oaths and promises the right hand is a position of honor and a position of possession it is also a weak spot because your shied is in the left hand which means the right is exposed.
Even in the midst of circumstances in life He is still there. He won’t take it away but will provide shade this doesn’t work for those who don’t posses him
et in right relationship acknowledge our faults and let the
Psalm 121:6 NASB95
6 The sun will not smite you by day, Nor the moon by night.
Verse 6-
the sun or the moon won’t harm you
the sun or the moon won’t harm you
The middle east is a hot place during the day and very cold at night
God gives day and night protection
This only happens when we seek God
This only happens when we seek God
This only happens when we seek God
The danger in the day time we can see
The moon is night time- indicates Darkness- something you cant see and don’t have control.

The Lord Protects the one who seeks him

The Lord Protects the one who seeks him

Psalm 121:7–8 NASB95
7 The Lord will protect you from all evil; He will keep your soul. 8 The Lord will guard your going out and your coming in From this time forth and forever.
Psalm 121:
He’s not saying he will take harm away but he will protect you from it
He’s not saying he will take harm away but he will protect you from it and guide you through it
He’s not saying he will take harm away but he will protect you from it and guide you through it
God will guide you
There is a lot of evil in the world things that will take you out
He will keep your soul is keeping you spiritually
He is there for our Journey. your going out and coming in.
He is there for our Journey. his help is not temporary it is eternal
His keeping power is customized
His Keeping Power is comprehensive
His Keeping power is Eternal as well
Only works when we seek him first
Only works when we seek him first
He is there for our Journey. his help is not temporary it is eternal
We need to examine our walk with Christ and be real. Is the Lord your first choice or his he your last resort
we need recognize the reality and cognizant of the truth
That apart from him we can do nothing
I think we as believers really would prefer to go at life alone
But in addition to being Omnipotent and Omniscient
He loves us He want to protect us
all God wants is for us to depend on him and trust him
being dependent is not a weakness it is a strength
Celebration
Ill close with this
do you have a bible verse that just encourages you and uplifts you?
this is one of them!
when you have to go through a trial that is difficult
Going through a rough patch hard times
When you are right in the middle of it
When you are right in the middle of it
you are experiencing it
When you are right in the middle of it
and you need a word to stand on
Its all dependency on God
So Glad that God is not Like Us
This is a reminder
the Lord is your Help
Of where our help really comes from
He will go through it with you!
This assurance
He don’t take breaks wont lose sight of us
If you trust him the Lord will protect you
He don’t take breaks wont lose sight of us
we don’t have to do it in our own strength
That apart from him we can do nothing
When we seek him he will keep you
I think we as believers really would prefer to go at life alone
When we believe him he guards your going and your coming
But in addition to being Omnipotent and Omniscient
He loves us He want to protect us
We need to acknowledge who God is and what he can do
all God wants is for us to depend on him and trust him
being dependent is not a weakness it is a strength
song writer says You are the source of my strength
thank you for this time of study
thank you for this word
We thank you for the work of Christ
and what Christ accomplished on the cross
as we face the cares of this life
I pray Help us Lord give us the strength
so that we will look to you
