INTRODUCTION
Knowing, understanding, believing and applying God’s Word defines what is means to be a Christian. The naturalist worldview sees and understands truth as being relative - subject to the feelings of the believer. A biblical worldview understands that truth is objective and independent of one’s feelings. There is one source and on source only to find truth - and that is the Bible.

WHAT IS TRUTH?

JN 14:
John 14:6 ESV
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

Then Pilate said to him, “So you are a king?” Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. For this purpose I was born and for this purpose I have come into the world—to bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth listens to my voice.” Pilate said to him, “What is truth?”…

John 14:6 ESV
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
Jn 14

HOW IS JESUS THE TRUTH

He Proclaims that truth is real and knowable

John 8:32 ESV
and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
jn 8:3

He Proclaims that truth can set one free from the bondage of sin

John 8:33–34 ESV
They answered him, “We are offspring of Abraham and have never been enslaved to anyone. How is it that you say, ‘You will become free’?” Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who practices sin is a slave to sin.
jn 8:

He Proclaims that His Father’s Word is Truth

John 17:14 ESV
I have given them your word, and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.
John 17:17 ESV
Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth.
Jn 17
John 17:14 ESV
I have given them your word, and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.

SHARING THE TRUTH

jn 17
Can you explain to someone why you believe the Bible? I don’t mean explain it to your Sunday School class, your small group, or your Christian mom. I mean, could you explain to someone who is a total skeptic—doesn’t believe in God, o Jesus—why you think that everything the Bible says is true?
Scientific Evidence
Ontological Evidence
The fact is, most of the world around us finds it very strange to hear that otherwise seemingly well-adjusted, put-together people would stake their lives on and put their trust in a book like the Bible. To put it bluntly, it sounds crazy to them.
1 Corinthians 1:18 ESV
For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
1 cor
1 Corinthians 2:14 ESV
The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned.

We cannot just play defence

Don’t Quit Before the Game Starts

37 Then Pilate said to him, “So you are a king?” Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. For this purpose I was born and for this purpose I have come into the world—to bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth listens to my voice.” 38 Pilate said to him, “What is truth?”

Belief in the Bible is not just a “religious” matter that you “just have to take on faith.”

1 Peter 3:15 ESV
but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect,

Get Behind Your Presuppositions

Most of the people around us don’t believe the bedrock truths that we Christians hold to be most precious and most foundational to our lives. They don’t believe in God, they don’t believe Jesus was the Son of God, they don’t believe he was resurrected from the dead, they don’t believe the Bible is the Word of God or even special in any way, and most of them don’t even believe there’s anything spiritual about the world.
Titus 1:9 ESV
He must hold firm to the trustworthy word as taught, so that he may be able to give instruction in sound doctrine and also to rebuke those who contradict it.

Know the Basics - Not Everything

Live the Truth

John 13:35 ESV
By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
jn 13
John 8:31 ESV
So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples,
John
Mark 11:25–26 ESV
And whenever you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against anyone, so that your Father also who is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.”
