· 13 viewsAs God's creation we were all put here for a purpose. That purpose is to serve God. As Christians we are to serve in the church that we are members of. Why do we serve? What can we learn from serving in the church.

24 Most assuredly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much grain.
25 He who loves his life will lose it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life.
26 If anyone serves Me, let him follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also. If anyone serves Me, him My Father will honor.
27 “Now My soul is troubled, and what shall I say? ‘Father, save Me from this hour’? But for this purpose I came to this hour.

Jesus’ example- These signs of a servant give force to the beautiful symbolic action of our Lord, Who washed the feet of His disciples, so that His disciples might see how they were to act toward each other after He was gone. No one was to be master or lord it over another, each was to be a servant of the other.

Serving in the church teaches our children, the next generation, to follow the example of Jesus and that is true discipleship!

Jesus’ example
Jesus tears into the Scribes and Pharisees and pronounces the 8 woes. this is an example of what service without humility looks like and the disapproval that Jesus has with this type of service.
1 If there be therefore any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any bowels and mercies,
2 Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind.
3 Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.
4 Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.
Why do we need to teach serving, because it teaches us to be humble.
There are so many out there who cant, who don’t have what we have, and they need to see Jesus. They need to experience Jesus, and He says we will be blessed for humbling ourselves and serving others!
He bluntly tells them just as he is telling you today, it’s more than just knowing you should do it…It’s about acting on that knowledge and getting to work.
Getting down and dirty in the trenches of ministry and serving where you are needed.
Serving teaches the proper attitude-

When we serve, we remember Jesus washing the feet of the disciples
What we don’t do is complain while serving Jesus.
We need to serve with a heart that loves Jesus. Martha was distracted and missed the fact that she was with the Lord Jesus Christ.
How many times do we serve and complain about serving, and miss the very same fact that we are serving the Lord Jesus Christ.
Yes serving can be hard work, yes it can take up your valuable time, it takes resources and money, but it can be such a blessing to serve. Have you found a place to serve here at this church yet.
Some of you have been serving faithfully, for some you others it’s your turn to step up and shine. It’s time for you to start sacrificing and giving of your time, money, and talents to serve this church and the community, and it all starts with the right attitude about serving.
It’s not “I have to go help with this” attitude, it should be “God has given me an opportunity to help with this!
Conclusion: says “blessed is that servant whom his master, when he comes, will find so doing. Some of you here today and watching at home need to have a serious heart to heart with God. You need to ask God to search your heart and reveal where you can serve. Some of you may even need to ask God for forgiveness and be saved today. You can’t serve the church until you serve God. Are you saved, do you know for certain that when your time comes that you will be with Jesus in Heaven? What about baptism? You want to be obedient and serve, but first you need to be obedient and follow the Lord in baptism. Maybe it’s time to join the church and start serving today. Now is the time, today is the day to start living for God and serving in the capacity that you were designed for. What will be your decision?
