“PREPARE TO, MEET THY GOD OR MEET WITH GOD!” — Amos 4:1-2,11-13; Isa 1:18

*/God gave Amos the Word of /**/God, and the prophet Amos spoke to /**/God’s people, Israel/*, “*prepare to meet thy **God!*” *God’s first call is, to come and meet with **God, and the final call is Prepared to meet Thy **God*.

God will bring */minor/* judgments upon a land and then if they will not hear after a time He will bring */major/* judgments upon them, and usually a */rest/*, and then the */final/* warning, */then judgment/*.

*/There may be times of no seen judgments or relative peace and prosperity, but that is not a sign that /**/God is satisfied with a people/*.

When the people think they are safe then destruction will come.

I. THEY WERE GOING THROUGH THE FORM OF WORSHIP.

!! 1. Making of the golden calves by Jeroboam was a */political decision/*, */not a religious one/* [Note: President Bush had Moslems in for a prayer service in the Whitehouse.]: 1 Kings 12:26-32

!!! A. These golden calves were a copy of their forefathers’ sin: Ex 32:3-5

!!! B. Jeroboam had been told by God, through that he would rule and his children would rule if they followed God as David did.

!!! C. Jeroboam believed that God would give him the kingdom, but not preserve it for his family.

!! 2. {Am4.4}:

*/They duplicated the true worship with their false, e.g.,/* Morning sacrifices, tithing, holidays.

!!! A. The worship was to */mimic/* the true in Jerusalem.

!!! B. They wanted to */satisfy the people/* with this */political based worship/*.

!! 3. {Am4.5}:

They did */mimic/*, */perverting/* the form of worship, not only with idols, but also with leaven bread!

This is the way of */false religion today/*.

It */mimics/* the */true/* with a */form of godliness/* perverting even the form of true worship.

!!! A. */Preach hard and strong that men are saved by grace and then require something besides /**/Christ for salvation/*.

!!! */B.

/**/Preach how /**/Christ died that we might have eternal, everlasting life and then require something for them to do to keep themselves./*

!! 5. Preach that Jesus is the Son of God and the son of man, than they declare that Jesus is not God in the flesh.

The people */loved the worship that Jeroboam sat up/*.

It */saved them time and effort/*, and they could offer up what they wanted how they wanted, when they wanted.

!!! A. Everybody can do whatever they want to.

!!! B. They did what seem right to them: Pro 21:2

II.

WE SHOULD PREPARE TO MEET WITH GOD.

!! 1. True worship is a place to come and reason with God, about our sins, tribulations, etc.

!! 2. God only seeks one kind of worshipers: John 4:23-24

!!! A. God seeks only those who are Born Again to worship & have communion with Him, for the rest are dead toward God.

!!! B. God only seeks those whom the Spirit has quickened, and who come in truth.

!!!! a. Jesus is truth; God’s Word is truth

!!!! b.

Those that come must come by Jesus Christ: Col 3:17

!!!! c.

The promise of *Shechaniah glory (Special present of **God (*Ex 40:34 & 2 Chr 5:14)) in the assembly: Mat 18:20

!!! C. God will meet with those that are His by the New Birth, by right of Redemption, by right of Adoption, and by the right of the truth place in them.

!! 3. We should come ready to Meet with God every time we come to the House of God, His church!

!!! A. Prepared Soul: Mark 11:25; 1John 1:9

!!! B. Prepared attitude toward God and the things of God: Pro 3:1-12

!!! C. Prepared heart & mind: Psa 57:7-11

III.

PREPARE TO MEET THY GOD.

!! 1.

If you will not prepare to Meet with God, then be Prepared to Meet Thy God!

!!! A. God sends the minor warnings, then the major ones and finally the Day of the Lord.

!! 2. They Day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night: 1 Thes 5:3

!!! A. It is when all seems to be going well that often Judgment comes.

!!! B. Every thing seemed alright in Babylon the night that Belshazzar through a party: Dan 5:1-6,24-28

!!!! a.

That night He was disposed as king and the kingdom was taken away.

!!!! b.

God had laid him in the balance and found him wanting, but this after many years of minor judgments in fathers and his day.

!! 3. {Am4.12}:

God answer is if you will not heed Him then He will let you alone for a while and then sudden destruction will come.

!! 4. {Am4.13}:

They were mocking the God of creation, God the Son.

!!! A. God has the power to do what He says He will do!

!!! B. God judges nations, people and persons today.

!! 5.

One day God will judge the world: Isa 63:1-4

!!! A. Jesus will tread the wine press and the earth will be judged.

!!! B. None will be able to stay His hand.

!! 6.

There will come a final judgment one day: Rev 20:7-15

IV.

ARE YOU READY TO MEET WITH GOD OR “mEET tHY GOD!”?

!! 1. Has God sent little judgments into your life to warn you?

!! 2. Have you heeded those warnings, and repented and turning to God in truth?

!! 3. Or have you ignored God and seem like there is peace even though your not worshiping according to God’s standard?

*There has to be genuine repentance* and a */total desire of the inward man to follow /**/God in all of your ways/*.

What is your plan for tonight, worship God or to do something else?

*TRUE** WORSHIPERS, WORSHIP **GOD IN SPIRIT & IN TRUTH, JESUS CHRIST.*
