But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.

He seals us in Christ’s righteousness - but He also gives us the power to live in it.

Power:

Jesus said, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me.” Romans says it was the Spirit’s power that raised Christ. If it was the power of the Spirit enabling Jesus, how much more do we need Him? How much more do we need to seek His power?

Imagine what the Spirit could do through us! Actually, Jesus said, “Greater things will you do!”

Still doubting whether God could change Glastonbury and New England through our little church?

Still doubting whether God can do something magnificent in and through your life?

With God, all things are possible! Because it’s not our power. It’s God’s power. We can send demons to flight (), because it’s God’s power.

We will talk about gifts more after Easter, but it’s amazing what the Holy Spirit can do when we’re operating in His power. Not everyone is in agreement with this definition. I’m okay with that. When youre doing something you wouldn’t normally do through your natural talents - like me preaching. If anything I say makes sense, or impacts your life, or brings clarity about God, and transformation, it’s God, not me. I don’t have the skills to do that! It’s the Holy Spirit working through me.

Possible Intro: Muscle memory. Street Fighter vs Jude. 7th grade, in Lemon Grove california, I’d go to Da Boyz Pizza across form LGMS. They had a brand new game called street fighter 2. I stunk at the arcade. The following year, 1992 the game came out on Super Nintendo. I practiced all summer in Georgia. Joy Stick. Came back and could hold my own. I was never an expert but I got good.

Today, games have too many buttons. I get torched trying to play x box. Jude challenged me. We started playing and all of a sudden the moves started coming back to my hands. I had no idea how. Muscle memory. It was like this internal power enabling me to do things I didn’t think I could do (at least not anymore). Analogies fall short...

Revelation:

The Spirit revealed the Scriptures (2 Pet). We believe the canon was closed. But because God’s word is alive (meaning the Spirit still speaks through it), the Spirit still reveals to us through His word! And through His people, who are guided and anchored in His word!

Who knows a man except His Spirit. We use this verse to say the Spirit knows God’s heart and can pray for us according to that, even when we don’t have the words. But I also think we can use the verse to conclude that the Spirit can reveal God’s heart to us - which leads to guidance.

He will bring to remembrance.

Learning to hear the voice of God is an important step in the growth process. Eve didn’t know what voice to listen to. Jesus said, “My sheep hear my voice...” Are we taking the time to learn the voice of God through the Holy Spirit’s revelation?

When Michelle comes to D-Group at my house, Myrtle lays on the couch. I can hear anytime Michelle talks Myrtle squawks. She KNOWS hear mom’s VOICE. If I talk, she doesn’t do anything. She’s like, “I dont know you fool!”

We got to learn to respond to the right voice. And when the enemy talks, we got to respond like Myrtle, “I dont know you fool!” That’s the hood translation of, “Get thee behind me Satan.”

Once we recognize and listen to voice, we grow as we gain Holy Spirit revelation:

Who we should worship (The Father and Son) - Go to Him! Love Him! Worship Him!

The Holy Spirit reveals the other Persons of the Trinity so we will worship them fuller. John Piper says that “The Father seeks those who will worship Him in spirit and truth” as implying a Trinitian work. The Spirit points to Jesus so we will worship Him. The Holy Spirit reveals how we should worship. So know His voice.

So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves.

Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives.

The Spirit leading me through His word, by daily reading (when I don’t get to pick).

One great way to see if it’s God’s voice, is to check if it lines up with God’s written and revealed word.Berea.

Faith - we must engage by this. Part of the process of faith is familiarity. Being familiar with the Spirit’s leading. Being familiar with God’s word (so we know it’s the Spirit leading us).

The Spirit will teach us.

He will help us, even if we don’t know what to do (pray)

How did we get here?

Why did we cancel.

Lots of reasons; two:

Community Center - Romans, authority. Because we use a public facility, we wanted to honor their leading because they are doing things for our good. This isn’t a gospel issue, this is a witnesssing issue.

Incarnation - we enter into the community like Jesus.

We canceled, but are not worried. We have hope.

Why aren’t we worried?

To not be worried seems foolish.

Maybe to be too worried seems foolish.

We want to see things though God’s eyes. Takes faith. Isn’t interested that by the Holy Spirit’s leading, we had already planned an entire year dedicated to growing in our faith.

Faith is the substance of hope, evidence not seen.

Growth starts with God. Trinity. Focusing on the Holy Spirit today.

Is it a coincidence that we’re better prepared for this situation, at this exact time, or is it the Holy Spirit revealing God’s will and guiding us into the right places?

Response:

We can have peace. We can have hope. Because when we live our lives according to the Spirit, the one who reveal God to us, who we are in God, and God’s plan for our life, we are unshaken. We can have comfort in the midst of crazy scary circumstances. And guess what? The Holy Spirit is also called our Comforter.

How do I get the Holy Spirit? Saved. Already - begin to listen to His voice. Many of us will have more downtime than we used to. Instead of filling that time up with Netflix, filled it with quiet time listening for the Spirit’s voice. And if you think you hear something, but aren’t sure, write it down.

Josh - go to a quiet place. With a notepad. And sit quietly before the Lord. Don’t really busy the time with requests. Just try to listen for the still small voice of the Spirit. (Elijah). And then, write what He says down. Then, go check it against God’s word. And if you don’t know where to look, ask someone in your church family. And the time we live in, we can communicate while practicing social distance.

If you sow into this, you will reap. . That’s kinda weird phrasing. If you invest into this, you will make a spiritual profit.

And like a baby, the more you listen, the more familiar you’ll be. I want to see our faith grow so much this year that we are so familiar with God’s voice, that we know it’s Him. And then we, by faith, obey what He says. Who knows what will happen.

Story of the guy who spoek to me at the worship conference. I took to heart - Check that… oh yeah, there’s this verse.

Isaiah 30:21 ESV

And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, “This is the way, walk in it,” when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left.

He believed the Spirit was telling Him, to tell me, this is what God wanted me to focus on. He was revealing this about my future. He was guiding my steps. If I did this, no matter how crazy the circumstances got, God would take care of me. You know, by living by this, it’s led me here, to glastonbury. Being the pastor of TRC.

What’s God got in store for you? If we’re willing to listen to the Spirit, what’s opportunities is God giving us in this crazy time in the world? As we grow in our faith, let’s learn to listen to His voice to see what He wants to reveal. And then let Him guide you as you obey. And you will have Him with as your Comforter, even if the world feels like it’s falling apart. That’s because you have hope that rests in God - the one who is completely in control, is all powerful, and always with us.
