THE BLOOD OF JESUS
Good evening, Justin, Pastor here
We gather tonight to REMEMBER and REFLECT on the Death of JESUS,
an event that has haunted, convicted, blessed, confused, Saved, or condemned everyone who is has ever lived
Known as Good Friday
one of the bloodiest days in all of history.
— What is the most blood you have ever seen? —
— Jesus Christ bled —
The Blood of Jesus
The Blood of Jesus
A man is betrayed and beaten
blood flows from his mouth & nose.
scourged with a flagrum
BLED PROFUSELY from his open wounds
crown of thorns gouging his skull causing deep lacerations which would bleed, blinding his eyes with red
SEVEN INCH IRON Spikes pounded splashing blood…flowing FREELY from the punctures wounds.
HUNG upon rugged and splintery cross labored for each breath would bleed extensively staining the wooden cross red.Jesus would have hung over a POOL of his own BLOOD.
Finally, the 12” blade of spear is thrust up under his rib cage puncturing his heart sack from which FLOW water and blood.
— Jesus bled and died. —
He DIED OF a LITERAL BLOODY & BROKEN HEART.
— Jesus Bled. —
Yet, what’s curious is we declare this to be GOOD NEWS
We celebrate this day as GOOD FRIDAY.
GOOD FRIDAY?
GOOD FRIDAY?
How can the gruesome & HORRIFIC death of a good man be declared GOOD NEWS?What does it mean that there is “redemption by the precious blood of Christ?”Why we gather here tonight to answer this question. How can good Friday be good?
BLOOD
BLOOD
To answer this we must talk ABOUT BLOOD and SIN.
The SHAME of SIN
The SUBSTITUTE FOR SIN
THE COST of SIN
THE ATONEMENT FOR SIN
If this topic makes you queasy and uncomfortable, NAUSEOUS
It’s supposed to.
We are to be UNSETTLED by the SIGHT of BLOOD.
When blood is seen outside the body
associated w/ suffering, pain, & death.
We naturally it troubling, horrifying, and disturbing.
Blood reminds us of our OWN MORTALITY
Reminds us of DEATH.
REMINDS US OF SIN bc it is sin that leads to death.
We are OFTEN HORRIFIED by DEATH, but are we as HORRIFIED by SIN?
What we feel when we see blood, is what God feels when we sin.
It’s what we should feel when we sin.
But we have become NUMB to SIN and it’s utter grotesqueness.
SIN always leads DEATH.
In the Beginning: The shame of sin
In the Beginning: The shame of sin
Adam & Eve - “In that day you shall surely die”
God’s First Sacrifice
Death did come that day, but not to them - A SUBSTITUTE
“And the Lord God made for Adam and for his wife garments of skins and clothed them.
He covered their SIN and SHAME
Passover Lamb: The Substitute for Sin
Passover Lamb: The Substitute for Sin
God’s people were instructed to slaughter a perfect 1 year old lamb
Blood Spread over the door posts
BY FAITHDeath would Passover
But death came to something that day, the LAMB, a SPOTLESS SUBSTITUTE
Sacrificial System: The Cost of sin
Sacrificial System: The Cost of sin
Moses God would institute the Sacrificial System as a way to deal with SIN
Because “ says that “without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins.”ATONEMENT
The Day of Atonement: The Atonement for Sin
The Day of Atonement: The Atonement for Sin
Priest confesses the sins of the nation
Two Goats
1st Goat - Sin OFFERING
2nd Goat - Scape Goat
This would happen AGAIN and AGAIN

COSTLY
Would be worth a lot of money
But purchased it for slaughter
Like your new car, or new iPhoneBring it into church and smash itYOU would take this innocent animal to be sacrificed for YOUR SINS.Take it to THE PRIESTYou would confess your sins over this animalEx) I lusted after people, I watched porn, I’m stolen money, I’ve been harsh, I’ve had sex with my boyfriend or girlfriendhard hearted, unloving, Perhaps after hours of confession, watch that animal STRUGGLE & FIGHTPriest SLIT the THROATBLEED out, it would TWITCH and cry outyou would CRY and WEEP outBecause OUR SIN caused DEATH and pain and weepingwalk away feeling the WEIGHT of our SINIt’s meant to be SHOCKING and GROTESQUE and HORRIFYINGHappened OVER & OVER & OVER again.“A river of blood flows out of the temple”Sin always LEADS to death. But it was always the DEATH of a SUBSTITUTE
