HOOK

Who wrote the Gospel of John:
John the Beloved, one of the 12 disciples,
also wrote 1-3 John when he was exiled in the island of Patmos,
a brother of James [also 1 of 12 disciples],
Son of Zebedee,
wrote the Gospel of John, 1 of the 4 synoptic Gospels [describe events from a similar point of view— Matthew, Mark Luke & John]
When was it written: unknown; probably A.D. 90-95, that’s about 60 years after the death and resurrection of Jesus
Where was it written:
Why it was written: To tell the story of Jesus, in his incarnation [coming to earth], Jesus made God known and made his life available to all through the cross
Emphases:
Jesus is the Messiah, the son of God;
in his incarnation and crucifixion,
he both revealed God’s love and redeemed humanity;
discipleship and the giving of the Holy Spirit to his people [believers-Christians] to continue his work

BOOK

Matthew 4:18–22 NIV
18 As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. 19 “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.” 20 At once they left their nets and followed him. 21 Going on from there, he saw two other brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John. They were in a boat with their father Zebedee, preparing their nets. Jesus called them, 22 and immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him.
