Love and Relationships

We are coming to our final topic in our series on love and relationships. We looked at what the Bible says love is, we looked at being single and married, last week we looked at the responsibilities that God placed on men, and today we are going to look at responsibilities God’s placed on the ladies. Guys like I told the ladies last week, don’t tune me out. There is things you can learn as well. Again, as I stated a couple of other times, some of the stuff we’ll discuss goes against what the world’s view of things. Everything we talk about comes from God’s word, and it’s a part of God’s design. So with that being said let’s open up to like we normally do, and as we go through we’ll look at a few different other parts of scripture.
So starting out let’s look at the creation of Eve, the first woman.
We’re going to look at a few different verses in Genesis.
Just like we started off with the creation of man last week, says “So God created man in His own image; He created him in the image of God; He created them male and female.”
Ladies, just like I stated last week about the guys, this goes for you too. You were created in the image of God. So that means you have value.
If you create something, you love it, you value it. Same goes for God. He created each of us in His image and because of that we are value to Him.
This goes both ways too. You are to value your significant other as well. Just like God values them
Moving forward to , the Bible goes into a little more detail about the creation of the woman.
First little bit of we see God creating the Garden of Eden. He’s brought in flowers, plants, and water.
We see in verse 15 that God placed man in the garden so he could work it and take care of it.
Verse 18 God says, in my own personal translation, Hey Adam, you’re all lonely. So God formed the animals and brought each to Adam so he could name them.
So Adam is here naming all the creatures and seeing they are a pair, they have companions for each other, but yet there was no helper found for him.
Adam was alone and had no one, but then God steps in
Verse 21-24 says “So the LORD God caused a deep sleep to come over the man, and he slept. God took one of his ribs and closed the flesh at that place. Then the LORD God made the rib He had taken from the man into a woman and brought her to the man. And the man said: This one, at last, is bone of my bone and flesh of my flesh; this one will be called “woman” for she was taken from man.” This is why a man leaves his father and mother and bonds with his wife, and they become one flesh.”
So here we see God put Adam to sleep, pulled out a rib from his side and created Eve. Adam called her woman.
Why would I go and spend this much time to explain exactly where it says God created a woman?
Because there is something absolutely important here that needs to be shared. How did God create Adam?
From the dirt.
How did I just God create Eve?
From Adam’s side.
Why would that be important?
Because God didn’t want men to be able to say, See we are superior because God created us from dirt first.
See if God created both Adam and Eve from dirt, then Adam would be able to say that because they were created from the same thing. However, God created Eve from Adam’s side.
God’s saying that we are equals, husbands and wives are equals. So ladies, don’t ever let a man or husband treat you like you’re beneath him. You’re not. In God’s eyes we’re equals, in life. God created Eve to be a helper, or a companion to Adam.
Guys don’t ever treat a woman like she is beneath you.
Again God created each of us in His image, He values each of us enough to send Jesus to earth for our salvation. We should value each other just as much as God does.
So out of all that, we gathered two things of what God has called ladies to be. One equals in His eyes and two a companion to help get through life.
Next thing, Ladies, God’s called you to set the example.
says “Wives, to, must be worthy of respect, not slanderers, self-controlled, faithful in everything.”
Little context on this verse, this actually falls under the qualification of church leadership.
According to Timothy, when a church is looking for a pastor or for a deacon, the wives come into account as well.
Ladies that means you have to be the example for others to follow.
Worthy of respect
What does it mean to be worthy of respect?
showing kindness, love, mercy, patients, again everything that describes or defines the word Love in 1 Corinthians 13.
You should be helping people up, not putting people down.
Not talking bad about others, but encouraging others
Being able to manage your feelings, emotions, your actions.
How many times have you thought, wow I just want to punch you in the face? Being self controlled is you not punching them in the face, or cursing at someone when they may deserve it.
Nothing is more scary than a mad wife or mother. But God calls us to control those emotions and think calmly and clearly.
following Christ and acting like Him.
Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.
holding on to God’s promises whenever things don’t seem like they are going good.
Ladies, this can be one of the biggest things for a guy. I know personally, there has been a few times in my life where I looked at Renee and how she’s holding on and maintaining her faith that God was going to help us out or take care of whatever situation, and that motivated me. That spoke volumes to me about my wife.
Ladies you are also called to be Mentors
In says “Then they can encourage the younger women to love their husbands and children, to be self controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands so that no one will malign the word of God.
says “Wives, in the same way be submissive to your husbands
Okay so this verse may sound a little rough on the second half, but lets break it down.
The author of Titus is actually speaking to the older ladies of the church, however, it does apply to all. And at the end of verse three it says “They are to teach what is good.”
Says to train younger women to love their husbands and children. This goes back to what I said earlier about being the example.
So what does it mean to train to love their husbands and children.
Ladies, sometimes its really hard to love us guys because we do stupid stuff. We have those hold my coke and watch this moments.
Being able to love us when we do stupid stuff is a skill that is learned, and same goes for the kids too.
Self-controlled we’ve already talked about, but being pure, falls under being faithful to Christ and your husband. Kindness is also thrown in and we talked about that already because that’s part of the definition of love.
So now we get to the two fun ones, be busy at home and be subject to their husbands. Let’s start with the first.
First let me say this is not a call or say that women have to be at home and can’t work outside the home.
says otherwise.
King Lemuel is passing along information to his son about what a good woman does. And it’s a long list of stuff, that honestly goes under the busy at home we see here in Titus
She does good and not hurt her husband
Supports him.
provides food
Makes sure everyone is being taken care of
she makes decisions
In particular verse 16 says she evaluates a field and buys it; she plants a vineyard with her earnings. She’s making smart financial decisions, looking at what’s best for the family
dresses herself with strength,
Not really meaning muscles, which there is nothing wrong with that, but strength in the Lord, so a spiritual strength, and the strength to keep everything going
Remember from last week I said husbands are the spiritual leaders of the family. Ladies you’re the one that keeps him on track. Hey we didn’t pray today,
reaches out to those in need.
so having a heart that cares for those around you
In other words, a care taker making sure everything is running smoothly. Again, I go back to Renee’. She is absolutely amazing running the house. She keeps us organized and on track. Something that I would not be able to do.
Now subject to their husbands.
This DOES NOT mean you have to do every single thing your husband says and does not mean that any guy can boss you around just for the fun of it.
The word “submit” is in , and that word causes a lot of issues in our culture.
When we think submit, we think giving into whatever someone else says or does. That’s not what this means.
This is referring to being a servant. Again not waiting on your husband hand and foot, but serving like Jesus. Just like I said to the guys last week, your helping each other out. You’re not looking at things of just you.
Submitting is not listening and doing everything your husband says. If he says do something illegal, or against God’s word don’t do it. Remember earlier we talked about being faithful to Christ, and worthy of respect.
So guys don’t take that verse or any of these verses and say Oh see you have to do what I say. That’s not how it works.
Closing things out for tonight, we looked last week at guys and this week at girls. What I hope you can realize is God designed both male and female to be companions and complement each other, to work together. With Renee and I, we each have strengths and weaknesses. She picks up where I fall and vice versa. But ladies I’m talking to you, but guys pay attention, I want you to take away something in particular from tonight, you are made in the image of God and He made you to be a helper in life. Don’t ever let someone tell you are not an equal or your underneath them or anyone else. We are all equal under God’s eyes and through our faith in Christ we equally inherit the Kingdom of God. He’s placed a lot on you as well. You’re called to be the examples, be mentors, to be manage the family, and love like Christ loved you. Again how do we know what love is, it falls back to . Be those things that define love and everything else will fall into place.
One more thing for the guys, going back to it says “Who can find a wife of noble character? She is far more precious than jewels. Treat each woman you meet like she is the most precious jewel you’ve seen, and when you’re married, treat her even more precious. Because she is just that much more precious to the Lord.
Before we pray, we’ve looked at what love was over the last few weeks. We know what it is but do you know the person that shows the ultimate love? Do you have that relationship with Jesus? See without that relationship, you can’t show true love because that love only comes from Christ. So if you don’t have that relationship, please let’s talk and see how Jesus sets that example of love.
