God’s grace

I forgive you.

Many people would say that those three words we all long to hear is “I love you.”

Yes I do.

I’m so sorry.

Sweetie, I… I have struggled with this since I was 12 years old.

I have lied to you through our five years of marriage.

I hate myself for this.... I am so sorry.

Those words left my mouth as my wife point blank asked me if I looked at porn?

We were 9 hours away from home in a car with both of our children.

We were 30 minutes into our trip.

It was the longest car ride of my life.

After I spilled everything to her… here was her response.

I forgive you.

Many people would say that those three words we all long to hear is “I love you.”

In this moment “I forgive you” mattered more to me.

In that moment- I hurt my wife so badly, I wounded her, I failed her.

Her response was not “I hate you” which she should have.

Her response was not “I am leaving” she had every right too.

Those responses is what I deserved.

I did not deserve to hear you are forgiven.

This grace that was on full display for me— broke me, it caused me to weep.

You see I had read all about God’s grace, but I never really understood it.

I had been a believer for years, and in this moment which was the worst day of my life, I would look back and see what grace looked like.

I did not deserve my wife’s forgiveness. Yet she freely gave it.

This afternoon we are going to be looking at God’s grace.

God gives us what we don’t deserve while…

There are two words I would like to focus on.

Grace and Mercy, now these two words get mixed up a lot.

Mercy could be defined as this: God doesn’t give us what we do deserve.

All the way back in the beginning of time, God created everything, and it was very very good.
