Godly Thinking and Pride

Romans 12:6 NIV
We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith;
* been talking about the gifts
these gifts have been given to the church to bless the body
each one of us has these gifts for they come out of Jesus
we need to be more serving, more giving, more encouraging and more forgiving in mercy
Paul introduces these gifts with a very important attitude we all must have

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you.

Human Limitation on Spiritual Appreciation
us humans have a big problem
we not like pride in someone
the devil was full of pride when he wanted to be like God
his pride corrupted man and man took on that pride
the pride of the world is the pattern of the world
we are caught up in this wrong thinking
Paul gives us this warning
Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought,

we have to realise the difference in our responses
are we applying the human or worldly pattern or are we have the divine approval
we limit ourselves in our spiritual walk and achievements because we do not think appropriately
when we trust our human strength, our human endeavours
we are actually boasting in our own strength - and that is useless
we cannot achieve anything in Christ when we are in our own strength
hence Paul says - do not think of yourself more highly than you ought
pride becomes before a fall, but Christ never fails us
the purpose of Christ will always be victorious
rather think of yourself with sober judgment

there is an apparent conflict here when we only consider the human perspective
God is asking for us to know who we are in Christ
sober judgement means looking at ourselves with the eyes of Christ, pure and purposeful
rather than the self loathing and corruption that comes from our sinful nature
God is wanting us to live up to his standard not down to human sin
in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you.

God has given us gifts through Jesus
so it is a matter of human pride but gratitude to God
it is acceptig with grace the measure of daith given
(NIV2011) 8  For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9  not by works, so that no one can boast.
8  Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.
