Intro:

I am sure by now everyone here has at least heard of the Corona Virus. I want to take some time this morning to look at what the word of God says and take at ourselves during this unprecedented time.
Earlier this week I sent out a letter detailing the response of Parkside during this time. If you have not recieved the letter there are some copies on the back table.
What a time of fear and panic we are experiencing right now. the shelves at stores are empty of toilet paper, some soaps, and hand sanitizers. While none of us has experienced anything quite like this, I want you to know God hasn’t been taken by surprise and that God is in control.
Open your Bibles to . As you’re turning there let me give you some background on what is happening. The current king, King Ahab, is a wicked king. He doesn’t serve God. In fact, his wife has made him set up idols, false God’s in the nation of Israel.
1 Kings 17:1–16 NIV
Now Elijah the Tishbite, from Tishbe in Gilead, said to Ahab, “As the Lord, the God of Israel, lives, whom I serve, there will be neither dew nor rain in the next few years except at my word.” Then the word of the Lord came to Elijah: “Leave here, turn eastward and hide in the Kerith Ravine, east of the Jordan. You will drink from the brook, and I have directed the ravens to supply you with food there.” So he did what the Lord had told him. He went to the Kerith Ravine, east of the Jordan, and stayed there. The ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning and bread and meat in the evening, and he drank from the brook. Some time later the brook dried up because there had been no rain in the land. Then the word of the Lord came to him: “Go at once to Zarephath in the region of Sidon and stay there. I have directed a widow there to supply you with food.” So he went to Zarephath. When he came to the town gate, a widow was there gathering sticks. He called to her and asked, “Would you bring me a little water in a jar so I may have a drink?” As she was going to get it, he called, “And bring me, please, a piece of bread.” “As surely as the Lord your God lives,” she replied, “I don’t have any bread—only a handful of flour in a jar and a little olive oil in a jug. I am gathering a few sticks to take home and make a meal for myself and my son, that we may eat it—and die.” Elijah said to her, “Don’t be afraid. Go home and do as you have said. But first make a small loaf of bread for me from what you have and bring it to me, and then make something for yourself and your son. For this is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: ‘The jar of flour will not be used up and the jug of oil will not run dry until the day the Lord sends rain on the land.’ ” She went away and did as Elijah had told her. So there was food every day for Elijah and for the woman and her family. For the jar of flour was not used up and the jug of oil did not run dry, in keeping with the word of the Lord spoken by Elijah.
1 Kings 17:8-
1 Kings 17:8–16 NIV

1 Kings 17:1-
Last week I spoke out of said that sometimes we are placed in crisis. I also said that God prepares us for the crisis or at least gave us the opportunity to be prepared. Let me say it again, God is in control and we have been prepared and equipped for such a time as this.
Elijah had been prepared and equipped as well. When we read this account notice that in , the first time we meet Elijah by name, he is tasked with telling the King Ahab that there will be no rain or dew except by my word. Then immediately God commands him to go to the wilderness. Why? So he could prepare and equip him.
I want to biblically speak to fear for a moment.
Isaiah 41:10 NIV
So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
Isaiah
Psalm 56:3 NIV
When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.
Philippians 4:6–7 NIV
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:6-7
2 Timothy 1:7 NIV
For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.
1 John 4:18 NIV
There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.
Isaiah 43:1 NIV
But now, this is what the Lord says— he who created you, Jacob, he who formed you, Israel: “Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine.
Joshua 1:9 NIV
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
Isaiah 35:4 NIV
say to those with fearful hearts, “Be strong, do not fear; your God will come, he will come with vengeance; with divine retribution he will come to save you.”
Isaiah 41:13–14 NIV
For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you. Do not be afraid, you worm Jacob, little Israel, do not fear, for I myself will help you,” declares the Lord, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel.
1 Peter 3:14 NIV
But even if you should suffer for what is right, you are blessed. “Do not fear their threats; do not be frightened.”
Romans 8:38–39 NIV
For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Psalm 91:1–16 NIV
Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” Surely he will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence. He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart. You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day, nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday. A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you. You will only observe with your eyes and see the punishment of the wicked. If you say, “The Lord is my refuge,” and you make the Most High your dwelling, no harm will overtake you, no disaster will come near your tent. For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone. You will tread on the lion and the cobra; you will trample the great lion and the serpent. “Because he loves me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name. He will call on me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him. With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation.”
What an opportunity we have as Christians, and what an opportunity the Church has. We have an opportunity like none other to be a pillar of hope, strength and joy. I want to challenge us this morning to have the proper perspective of our current situation. That perspective is opportunity through faith, hope, and love.

Posture

The definition of posture:a particular way of dealing with or considering something; an approach or attitude.
As we move forward and navigate the times ahead, as Christians and as the church, we need to have the correct posture. So what is the correct posture? How do we deal with or consider something.
Our posture should include prayer, response, and commitment.
As we move forward prayer should be our first action. Remember God is in control. Rather than relying on ourselves or what everyone around us is doing, ex. NBA, NCAA, Golf, Walmart, or Disney World, we need to seek the Lord. The correct posture of the Christian includes prayer being the 1st priority.
David said in
Psalm
Psalm 34:4 NIV
I sought the Lord, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears.
And again in
Psalm 94:19 NIV
When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought me joy.
In order to keep from falling into the trap of fear we need to be people of prayer.
Our posture should also include Response, not reaction. Whats the difference between response and reaction one may ask? A response is made with wisdom and thought. A reaction is made based on feelings or emotions. It is very easy for someone to be overcome with fear if they are reacting. If we are a people of prayer we will be a responding people not a reacting people.
Story of benevolence scam.
Finally, our posture should also include love. We should consider and deal with this situation and future situations with love.
1 Corinthians 13:1–13 NIV
If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing. Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears. When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known. And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

1 Corinthians 131
Have Bob come up.
Love doesn’t hoard, love doesn’t argue or debate over differences. Love says let me come alongside and help in any way I can, regardless of the color of your skin, regardless of your faith, regardless of how you live your life. Love wants the best for everyone. As we come alongside others and truly love them, relationship will develop and change will happen. Let’s be a pillar of love to our family, community, and world.
As we move forward with posture lets be a church and a people who are defined by faith, hope, and love.
This unprecedented time we are living in is an invitation from the Lord to partner with Him and love others around us with His love.
At this time In would like to spend sometime together in prayer.
Pray we will be driven by faith and not fear. , “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Pray for the people who have been greatly impacted. We believe that God has the power to heal every sickness and every disease. Pray that His healing power would be manifested across the nations of the earth that are facing this crisis in their own neighborhoods, communities, and families.    Pray for scientists and researchers to be led by the Holy Spirit as they seek to provide treatments and vaccines.
Pray for our missionary family and global partners. Members of our Assemblies of God family frequently travel throughout the world in response to the gospel. Pray God’s protection on them, that they would stay strong, healthy, and effective where God has called them to be. Pray that God will be glorified in the response of AG churches and partners throughout the world.
Pray for hope. Our hope is in Christ and the Blessed Hope of His soon return. Disasters such as these should remind us of our eternal hope in Christ and awaken us to the need to share His hope with those around us.
