7 Die Here is goed, ’n toevlug in die dag van benoudheid, en Hy ken die wat by Hom skuil.
Heflin, in sy boek Nahum, Habakkuk, Zephaniah, and Haggai, sê die volgende
“Nahum’s text is brutally frank, even terrifying, through the first six verses.”87
En [1] Barker, K.L., 1999. Micah, Nahum, Habakkuk, Zephaniah dan verder.
God is jealous and avenging; he is slow to anger and great in power. God does command the clouds and the rain; he rebukes the sea and makes the rivers run dry. Who wants to serve such an awesome God? Can you do anything but stand in absolute terror before him? [1]
(Die Lewende Bybel)
1 Hier is ’n boodskap teen Nineve.
1. DIE HERE IS GOED,
6 Ek sal u goedheid en u getroue liefde ondervind so lank as ek lewe, en ek sal by U bly, Here, tot die einde toe
(Afrikaanse Ou Vertaling)
2. ’N TOEVLUG IN DIE DAG VAN BENOUDHEID,
A stronghold is a fortified place that people can flee to when their enemies attack them. To speak of the Lord as a stronghold is a metaphor which means that “he protects his people in times of trouble[2]
19 Here, U is my krag en my beskerming, by U kan ek skuil in die nood.
(The Message)
28 I give them real and eternal life. They are protected from the Destroyer for good. No one can steal them from out of my hand.
29 The Father who put them under my care is so much greater than the Destroyer and Thief. No one could ever get them away from him.
30 I and the Father are one heart and mind.”
3. EN HY KEN DIE WAT BY HOM SKUIL
Translators who keep the metaphor of stronghold in the first line may wish to render the second line as “he takes care of those who take refuge in him” or “he protects those who take refuge in him.”
(AFRIKAAN)
(AFRIKAAN)
2 U is my krag en my skuilplek, my veilige vesting en my redder, my beskermer by wie ek skuil, wat my volk aan my onderdanig maak.
4. Aanhaling uit C. H. Spurgeon
· Aardbewing in die Yosemite Vallei, “What did you do?” we inquired. The driver (pointing to the mighty and immovable rock, El Capitan, which rises for three thousand feet on the south side of the valley, and has a base of three solid miles) replied: “We determined to go and camp under old Capitan; for if that ever moved we knew the world would be coming to an end.”—Theodore Cuyler.
Many talk of trusting God when indeed they know nothing of real faith.
i.How are we to know who is, and who is not, a believer?
ii.This question is hard to answer in times of prosperity, but not in the day of trouble: then the true truster is calm and quiet in his God, and the mere pretender is at his wit’s end.
iii.Our text seems to hint as much.
iv.Everybody can find a bird’s nest in winter when the trees are bare, but the green leaves hide them; so are believers discovered by adversity.
One thing, however, should never be forgotten: whether we know believers or not, God knows them.
I.He does not include one hypocrite in the number, nor exclude one sincere truster, even though he be of little faith.
II.He knows infallibly and universally.
III.Does He know me, even me, as one of those who trust in Him?
IV.The Lord knoweth them that are His and they know Him as their stronghold. Have I such knowledge?
