One of Our Greatest Weapons: Prayer
Personal life struggles and national emergencies all remind us of the importance of prayer. Many of us regularly pray, but the serve red flags for the importance of regular, dependent, and sober prayer in our lives. Paul addresses and encourages us to be praying in every season for ourselves and our fellow Christians. Many other passages remind us to pray for our leaders and the lost.
Ephesians 6:18– One of Our Greatest Weapons: Prayer
We should be regularly praying for ourselves and others: and this reminds us of 5 important aspects of our prayer life.
The Qualities:
1) Regular, Dependent, Sober minded Prayer.
2) Prayer should be dependent on the Spirit.
a) Do not fear, a believer always prays by the Spirit.
b) Recognize our prayers are more dependent when we are –
(1) Lead by the Word.
(2) Have hearts rightly oriented to God.
(3) And are rightly oriented to worship of God.
3) Our prayers should include our own needs.
4) Our prayers should include our fellow believers.
5) Our prayers should recognize they are tools against the Spiritual struggles of life. (Demonic and trials)
Questions for reflection at home:
1) How does my present circumstances reflect the need for prayer? How do my community's present circumstances reflect the need for prayer?
2) Does my life have a pattern of regular, dependent, and sober minded prayer? Why or why not? In what ways do I need to change?
3) Why should our prayers include our needs? Why should our prayers include others? Do I neglect either in my prayer life?
4) How is prayer a tool in the spiritual struggles of life? How is it powerful enough to overcome every struggle we face (demonic or personal trials)?
