Trouble for the King of Kings - For Such a Time as This - Sermon 3 Trouble Trouble for the King of Kings - For Such a Time as This - Sermon 3 Trouble Tony Cansler / General For Such a Time as This / Suffering / Esther 3 If you Trust God In Trouble you will Triumph Trouble for the King of Kings Defiance Regard from the King toward Haman Esther 3:1 King James Version Chapter 3 After these things did king Ahasuerus promote Haman the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, and advanced him, and set his seat above all the princes that were with him Esther 3:3 King James Version Chapter 3 the king’s commandment Wickedness in his family Analytical Bible Expositor: Ezra to Job 1. The Exported from Logos Bible Software, 8:12 PM March 20, 2020. 1 Advancement for the Provoking (Esther 3:1, 2) According to F. C. Cook, the Jews generally understand the expression “the Agagite” to mean a descendant of Agag who was the Amalekite king whom Samuel killed with the sword (1 Samuel 15:32, 33). This would make Haman an Amalekite. The Amalekites were descendents of Esau and archenemies of the Jews Wealthy fortune Esther 3:9 KJV 1900 9 If it please the king, let it be written that they may be destroyed: and I will pay ten thousand talents of silver to the hands of those that have the charge of the business, to bring it into the king’s treasuries. Well liked Fellow Esther 3:1 KJV 1900 1 After these things did king Ahasuerus promote Haman the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, and advanced him, and set his seat above all the princes that were with him. Reverence from the people toward Haman Esther 3:2 King James Version Chapter 3 And all the king’s servants, that were in the king’s gate, bowed, and reverenced Haman: for the king had so commanded concerning him Devotion “bowed, and reverenced Haman” Declaration “the king had commanded” Exported from Logos Bible Software, 8:12 PM March 20, 2020. 2 Rejection of Haman Esther 3:2 King James Version Chapter 3 But Mordecai bowed not, nor did him reverence I am thinking Mordecai had been told the Story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abendego in their refusal to bow down to Nebuchadnezzar. Refused to Revere (Worship) Haman “bowed not” Refused to Reverence Haman “nor did him reverence” As believers we are not to bow to men, but only to God. Romans 14:11–12 KJV 1900 11 For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God. 12 So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God. Rebuke for Mordecai Esther 3:3-4 Esther 3:3–4 KJV 1900 3 Then the king’s servants, which were in the king’s gate, said unto Mordecai, Why transgressest thou the king’s commandment? 4 Now it came to pass, when they spake daily unto him, and he hearkened not unto them, that they told Haman, to see whether Mordecai’s matters would stand: for he had told them that he was a Jew. The King’s Servants Remarked to Mordecai Exported from Logos Bible Software, 8:12 PM March 20, 2020. 3 “the king’s servants…said to Mordecai” The Kings Servants Rebuked Mordecai “Why transgressest thou the king’s commandment? “ The Kings Servants Researched Mordecai “Why transgressest thou the king’s commandment?” The Kings Servants Repeated against Mordecai “spake daily to him” The Kings Servants were Rejected by Mordecai “he hearkened not unto them” The Kings Servants Retaliated against Mordecai “Now it came to pass, when they spake daily unto him, and he hearkened not unto them, that they told Haman” The Kings Servants Reported Mordecai “they told Haman” I think that it is evident that anti-semitism was in the heart of Haman and these men They were likely trying to get in good with Haman too since he was now in a powerful position Rage of Haman Esther 3:5 King James Version Chapter 3 And when Haman saw that Mordecai bowed not, nor did him reverence, then was Haman full of wrath. Exported from Logos Bible Software, 8:12 PM March 20, 2020. 4 It is interesting that he allowed one person refusing to bow down to him to get to him like it did. Revenge of Haman against Mordecai and the Jews Esther 3:6 King James Version Chapter 3 And he thought scorn to lay hands on Mordecai alone; for they had shewed him the people of Mordecai: wherefore Haman sought to destroy all the Jews that were throughout the whole kingdom of Ahasuerus, even the people of Mordecai. Ezra, Nehemiah, Esther (King James Version) Division II: The Jews Marked for Extermination by Haman: A Picture of Extreme Prejudice and Horrifying Evil, 3:1–15 Haman’s attempt to exterminate the Jews is the basic plot of the book of Esther. Guarding ourselves against extreme prejudice and bitter hatred is the lesson for us. Discriminating against other people because of their race, color, appearance, ability or beliefs is wrong. Just because a person is different—whether handicapped, physically deformed, less educated or any other dissimilarity—is no reason for harsh feelings or acts of discrimination. As followers of the Lord Jesus Christ, we are not to open our hearts to prejudice or bitter hatred. When people do wrong and commit atrocities, we are to legally execute justice and hold them accountable. However, justice is never to be executed out of personal bitterness but, rather, out of a sense of righteousness. John 4:9 KJV 1900 9 Then saith the woman of Samaria unto him, How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, which am a woman of Samaria? for the Jews Exported from Logos Bible Software, 8:12 PM March 20, 2020. 5 have no dealings with the Samaritans. Ephesians 4:31 KJV 1900 31 Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: Colossians 3:8 KJV 1900 8 But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth. 1 John 3:15 KJV 1900 15 Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him. Declaration of the Persecutor Coordination against the Jews Esther 3:7-8 King James Version Chapter 3 7 In the first month, that is, the month Nisan, in the twelfth year of king Ahasuerus, they cast Pur, that is, the lot, before Haman from day to day, and from month to month, to the twelfth month, that is, the month Adar. 8 And Haman said unto king Ahasuerus, There is a certain people scattered abroad and dispersed among the people in all the provinces of thy kingdom; and their laws are diverse from all people; neither keep they the king’s laws: therefore it is not for the king’s profit to suffer them Lots for the Jews “the lot” Long Time for the Jews Exported from Logos Bible Software, 8:12 PM March 20, 2020. 6 “month Adar” a year later Legislation against the Jews “There is a certain people scattered abroad and dispersed among the people in all the provinces of thy kingdom; and their laws are diverse from all people; neither keep they the king’s laws: therefore it is not for the king’s profit to suffer them” Lies against the Jews “neither keep they the king’s laws” Conviction of the Jews Esther 3:9 King James Version Chapter 3 9 If it please the king, let it be written that they may be destroyed: and I will pay ten thousand talents of silver to the hands of those that have the charge of the business, to bring it into the king’s treasuries. Butter up the king “if it please the king” Bribe the king “I will pay ten thousand talents of silver” This translated to 375 tons of silver, silver is $18.20 per ounce, that is $291.20 per pound, $582,400 per ton, $218,400,000 Consent of the King Esther 3:10-11 King James Version Chapter 3 And the king took his ring from his hand, and gave it unto Haman the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, the Jews’ enemy. 11 And the king said Exported from Logos Bible Software, 8:12 PM March 20, 2020. 7 unto Haman, The silver is given to thee, the people also, to do with them as it seemeth good to thee. 12 Acceptance “And the king took his ring from his hand, and gave it unto Haman” Accommodate “And the king said unto Haman, The silver is given to thee, the people also, to do with them as it seemeth good to thee” Condemnation of the Jews Esther 3:12-13 King James Version Chapter 3 12 Then were the king’s scribes called on the thirteenth day of the first month, and there was written according to all that Haman had commanded unto the king’s lieutenants, and to the governors that were over every province, and to the rulers of every people of every province according to the writing thereof, and to every people after their language; in the name of king Ahasuerus was it written, and sealed with the king’s ring. 13 And the letters were sent by posts into all the king’s provinces, to destroy, to kill, and to cause to perish, all Jews, both young and old, little children and women, in one day, even upon the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, which is the month Adar, and to take the spoil of them for a prey. Legislation Passed “and there was written according to all that Haman had commanded” Letters Posted Exported from Logos Bible Software, 8:12 PM March 20, 2020. 8 “ there was written according to all that Haman had commanded unto the king’s lieutenants, and to the governors that were over every province, and to the rulers of every people of every province according to the writing thereof, and to every people after their language; in the name of king Ahasuerus was it written, and sealed with the king’s ring.” Lethal Persecution “And the letters were sent by posts into all the king’s provinces, to destroy, to kill, and to cause to perish, all Jews, both young and old, little children and women, in one day, even upon the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, which is the month Adar” Liberties Promised “and to take the spoil of them for a prey” Ezra, Nehemiah, Esther (King James Version) Division II: The Jews Marked for Extermination by Haman: A Picture of Extreme Prejudice and Horrifying Evil, 3:1–15 Keep in mind that the LORD had made two great promises that had yet to be fulfilled: the promise that both the Messiah and the written Word of God would come through the Jewish people. If Haman had been allowed to exterminate the Jews, these two major promises of God would never have been fulfilled. Thus the LORD was moving behind the scenes to defeat the wicked plot of Haman. In causing the lot to fall on the twelfth month, the LORD was giving the Jews a whole year to get ready for the attack, a year in which events would bring about the deliverance of the Jews and the death of their Exported from Logos Bible Software, 8:12 PM March 20, 2020. 9 archenemy Haman Jeremiah 17:9 KJV 1900 9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? Proverbs 6:18 KJV 1900 18 An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, Feet that be swift in running to mischief, Acts 3:19 KJV 1900 19 Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord; 2 Corinthians 5:17 KJV 1900 17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. Ezekiel 36:26 KJV 1900 26 A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. Communication of the King Esther 3:14-15 King James Version Chapter 3 14 The copy of the writing for a commandment to be given in every province was published unto all people, that they should be ready against that day. 15 The posts went out, being hastened by the king’s commandment, and the decree was given in Shushan the palace. The delivery method of the letters would been similar to what we would have had in the days of the pony express Exported from Logos Bible Software, 8:12 PM March 20, 2020. 10 This message would have been delivered in less than a month to all 127 providences.
