Sermon 6 - Tribute to the King Sermon 6 - Tribute to the King Tony Cansler / General For Such a Time as This / Tribute / Esther 6 Sleeplessness of the King Restless and Alert Esther 6:1 KJV 1900 1 On that night could not the king sleep, and he commanded to bring the book of records of the chronicles; and they were read before the king. I have to wonder what caused this restlessness and sleepless night • Was it something he ate or drunk • Was he curious about Esther’s doings? • Was the Lord dealing with him on a matter • Was there a country matter weighing on his mind • Was he thinking about the legislation he passed to kill the Jews I am leaning toward the last but we will not know because it doesn’t say but we do know what happened because he could not sleep helped alter the course of history for the Good. Exported from Logos Bible Software, 8:46 PM March 20, 2020. 1 Also note, that it was the night before that the wicked Haman came to the king to kill Mordecai the next day by impaling him on the gallows. Records to be Announced Esther 6:1 KJV 1900 1 On that night could not the king sleep, and he commanded to bring the book of records of the chronicles; and they were read before the king. It is interesting that he chose to have royal records read to him, he could have asked for music, or he could have asked for a story to be told to him, could have ask for anything but he asked for the royal records Reading of the Account Esther 6:1–2 KJV 1900 1 On that night could not the king sleep, and he commanded to bring the book of records of the chronicles; and they were read before the king. 2 And it was found written, that Mordecai had told of Bigthana and Teresh, two of the king’s chamberlains, the keepers of the door, who sought to lay hand on the king Ahasuerus. It is interesting that of all the records that the servant could have chosen he chose the one about Mordecai saving the King’s life. I must believe that the Lord was orchestrating this behind the scenes. Remember this didn’t just recently happen, it had been years (5). I don't believe in coincidence, I do believe in Divine Providence, Remember, God has a Plan and a Purpose for you. Never doubt that nor doubt him. How many times have you read the bible or a book Exported from Logos Bible Software, 8:46 PM March 20, 2020. 2 about the bible and was taken back because you needed to hear that. How many times have you heard a sermon or a song and was take back because you needed to hear that. Ezra, Nehemiah, Esther (King James Version) C. The Unexpected Honor Bestowed upon Mordecai: A Picture of God’s Providence, Guidance, and Love for His People, 6:1– 14 God can even direct what we read in a book. A young man in North Africa sought peace, first in sensual pleasures and then in philosophy, but only became more miserable. One day he heard a neighbor child playing a game and saying, “Take it and read! Take it and read!” The young man immediately picked up the Scriptures and “happened” to open to Romans 13:13–14; and those verses brought him to faith in Christ. We know that young man today as Augustine, Bishop of Hippo, and author of numerous Christian classics. The king’s servant picked out the very book that told about Mordecai’s good deed and read that section to Ahasuerus. How marvelous is the providence of God! Philippians 4:19 KJV 1900 19 But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus. Psalm 23:5 KJV 1900 5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: Thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Psalm 34:7 KJV 1900 7 The angel of the Lord encampeth Round about them that fear him, and delivereth them. 2 Timothy 1:12 KJV 1900 12 For the which cause I also suffer these things: Exported from Logos Bible Software, 8:46 PM March 20, 2020. 3 nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day. Hebrews 13:6 KJV 1900 6 So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me. Isaiah 41:10 KJV 1900 10 Fear thou not; for I am with thee: Be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; Yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness. Romans 8:38–39 KJV 1900 38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, 39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Remembrance of the Account Esther 6:2 KJV 1900 2 And it was found written, that Mordecai had told of Bigthana and Teresh, two of the king’s chamberlains, the keepers of the door, who sought to lay hand on the king Ahasuerus. No doubt the king reflected and remembered. King Jesus does not forget those things which we do for Him. He will Reward us for our deeds 1 Corinthians 3:11–14 KJV 1900 11 For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. Matthew 5:12 KJV 1900 12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you. Matthew 16:27 KJV 1900 27 For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works. 1 Corinthians 3:8 KJV 1900 8 Now he that planteth and he that watereth are one: and every man shall receive his own reward according to his own labour. James 1:12 KJV 1900 12 Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him. 1 Corinthians 9:25 KJV 1900 25 And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible. 2 Timothy 4:8 KJV 1900 8 Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing. Revelation 3:11 KJV 1900 11 Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown. Realization for Accommodation Esther 6:3 KJV 1900 3 And the king said, What honour and dignity hath been done to Mordecai for this? Then said the king’s servants that ministered unto him, There is nothing done for him. As the king reflected he recalled and questioned what was done to honor Mordecai for saving his life. Do you remember I questioned before why would Mordecai save a wicked king, well the Lord told him to do it and it was the right thing to do. This was the reason the Lord did what he did 5 years earlier. Sometime’s things happen and we don’t know why or we will question why did this happen only for years down the road we find out it was part of God’s bigger plan. I have lost my job twice before due to cutbacks and acquisitions and I wanted to question then but I trusted the Lord had a plan, I can tell you now that it was part of God’s plan to get me over here to work and serve him. You may think that the Lord is running behind or you may believe he is actually late but the Lord is never late. Sometimes he is planning a greater miracle. This was the eleventh hour in the life of Mordecai and then comes Jesus. You may think that the Lord isn’t listening but just Exported from Logos Bible Software, 8:46 PM March 20, 2020. 6 because the devil tells you the Lord is late or not listening doesn’t mean it is so. Just because you don’t see n answer to your request immediately dos not mean it isn’t coming. God hears the cries of his children. God heeds the cries of his children. God answers the prayers of his children with the following responses i. Yes ii. No iii. Not Now iv. Not that Way Just like when Lazarus Died, Jesus could have showed up before he died and healed him but raising him from the dead was something greater. Perhaps you may be going thru something in your life and you are wondering why the Lord has not revealed or resolved already but press on child He has something great in mind for you. Never give up Never Quit. Resolve to move forward and trust the Lord No Matter What The king’s entire thought process changed with this story about the man of God. Interesting how that can happen, when you read about something somebody did to fulfill the will of the Lord. Gives you a brighter outlook, gives you hope for tomorrow. Next time you cannot sleep, open the word of God, read about something the Lord done, begin your prayer time early Exported from Logos Bible Software, 8:46 PM March 20, 2020. 7 Suggestion for the King ‘s Tribute Request for Attendance Esther 6:4–5 KJV 1900 4 And the king said, Who is in the court? Now Haman was come into the outward court of the king’s house, to speak unto the king to hang Mordecai on the gallows that he had prepared for him. 5 And the king’s servants said unto him, Behold, Haman standeth in the court. And the king said, Let him come in. It would have been early in the morning and the wicked Haman was there early, so the king says who is out there, they advised him Haman was there so he requested him to come in. It would have been common for advisors or attendants be there to see the king but it was so early that he beat everyone. Reason for Attendance Esther 6:4 KJV 1900 4 And the king said, Who is in the court? Now Haman was come into the outward court of the king’s house, to speak unto the king to hang Mordecai on the gallows that he had prepared for him. I think we know the reason the wicked Haman was there so early, no doubt he was excited too, for this was the day his enemy was about to die. Totally evil and not of God. He was Jealous and Envious against Mordecai. He was there to talk to the king about Mordecai. Exported from Logos Bible Software, 8:46 PM March 20, 2020. 8 When you have an enemy and that enemy is causing you trouble just go direct to the King of Kings and speak to him directly on the matter. That is the best thing you could do about it. We tend to not do that at times but go here or go there for advise, nothing wrong with getting Godly counsel but don’t forget to speak to God too. Request for Accommodations Esther 6:6 KJV 1900 6 So Haman came in. And the king said unto him, What shall be done unto the man whom the king delighteth to honour? Now Haman thought in his heart, To whom would the king delight to do honour more than to myself? The king asked for Haman’s advise in regards to accommodating someone for something that they did. The king trusted his feedback. Response to Accommodations Esther 6:6 KJV 1900 6 So Haman came in. And the king said unto him, What shall be done unto the man whom the king delighteth to honour? Now Haman thought in his heart, To whom would the king delight to do honour more than to myself? So, upon hearing that the king wanted to honor someone he thought who else is better than myself so he jumped to the conclusion that he was to be honored. I think we could say the wicked Haman had a pride problem. Matthew 23:12 KJV 1900 12 And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; Exported from Logos Bible Software, 8:46 PM March 20, 2020. 9 and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted. James 4:6 KJV 1900 6 But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble. 1 John 2:15–16 KJV 1900 15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. Proverbs 21:4 KJV 1900 4 An high look, and a proud heart, And the plowing of the wicked, is sin. Proverbs 6:16–19 KJV 1900 16 These six things doth the Lord hate: Yea, seven are an abomination unto him: 17 A proud look, a lying tongue, And hands that shed innocent blood, 18 An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, Feet that be swift in running to mischief, 19 A false witness that speaketh lies, And he that soweth discord among brethren. Proverbs 16:18 KJV 1900 18 Pride goeth before destruction, And an haughty spirit before a fall. Given he thought that this was to honor him, he suggested a great tribute and recognition. He said lets go all out on this one. Exported from Logos Bible Software, 8:46 PM March 20, 2020. 10 Recommendation for Accommodations Esther 6:6–9 KJV 1900 6 So Haman came in. And the king said unto him, What shall be done unto the man whom the king delighteth to honour? Now Haman thought in his heart, To whom would the king delight to do honour more than to myself? 7 And Haman answered the king, For the man whom the king delighteth to honour, 8 Let the royal apparel be brought which the king useth to wear, and the horse that the king rideth upon, and the crown royal which is set upon his head: 9 And let this apparel and horse be delivered to the hand of one of the king’s most noble princes, that they may array the man withal whom the king delighteth to honour, and bring him on horseback through the street of the city, and proclaim before him, Thus shall it be done to the man whom the king delighteth to honour. Royal Clothes “Let the royal apparel be brought which the king useth to wear” Royal Carrier “and the horse that the king rideth upon” Royal Crown “and the crown royal which is set upon his head” Exported from Logos Bible Software, 8:46 PM March 20, 2020. 11 Royal Care “And let this apparel and horse be delivered to the hand of one of the king’s most noble princes, that they may array the man withal whom the king delighteth to honour, and bring him” Royal Celebration “the man withal whom the king delighteth to honour, and bring him on horseback through the street of the city, and proclaim before him, Thus shall it be done to the man whom the king delighteth to honour” Submission to the King’s Tribute Recognition and Accommodation Esther 6:10–11 KJV 1900 10 Then the king said to Haman, Make haste, and take the apparel and the horse, as thou hast said, and do even so to Mordecai the Jew, that sitteth at the king’s gate: let nothing fail of all that thou hast spoken. 11 Then took Haman the apparel and the horse, and arrayed Mordecai, and brought him on horseback through the street of the city, and proclaimed before him, Thus shall it be done unto the man whom the king delighteth to honour. I love this part, not only did the king reveal to the wicked Haman he was going to honor Mordecai but the wicked Haman was going to be the one to do it. Exported from Logos Bible Software, 8:46 PM March 20, 2020. 12 Haman Hurried to Mordecai “Then the king said to Haman, Make haste” Haman Humiliated in front of Mordecai “and take the apparel and the horse, as thou hast said, and do even so to Mordecai the Jew, that sitteth at the king’s gate: let nothing fail of all that thou hast spoken.” Haman Honored Mordecai “Then took Haman the apparel and the horse, and arrayed Mordecai, and brought him on horseback through the street of the city, and proclaimed before him, Thus shall it be done unto the man whom the king delighteth to honour.” This was a man he hated, now he had to honor him. There is so much I could say about that. Sorrow over the King’s Tribute Reaction to the Accommodations Esther 6:12–13 KJV 1900 12 And Mordecai came again to the king’s gate. But Haman hasted to his house mourning, and having his head covered. 13 And Haman told Zeresh his wife and all his friends every thing that had befallen him. Then said his wise men and Zeresh his wife unto him, If Mordecai be of Exported from Logos Bible Software, 8:46 PM March 20, 2020. 13 the seed of the Jews, before whom thou hast begun to fall, thou shalt not prevail against him, but shalt surely fall before him. Godly Reaction Mordecai went back to work “And Mordecai came again to the king’s gate” Gloomy Reaction Haman Cried Home “But Haman hasted to his house mourning” Haman Covered his Head “and having his head covered” Haman Complained to His Family and Friends “And Haman told Zeresh his wife and all his friends every thing that had befallen him. Then said his wise men and Zeresh his wife unto him” Grisly Reaction Haman’s friends Counsel to him “If Mordecai be of the seed of the Jews, before whom thou hast begun to fall, thou shalt not prevail against him, but shalt surely fall before him” Governmental Reaction Esther’s Call for Attendance Exported from Logos Bible Software, 8:46 PM March 20, 2020. 14 Esther 6:14 KJV 1900 14 And while they were yet talking with him, came the king’s chamberlains, and hasted to bring Haman unto the banquet that Esther had prepared. Required Response “while they were yet talking with him, came the king’s chamberlains” Rapid Response “and hasted to bring Haman unto the banquet that Esther had prepared” I would have to believe that this was now a Banquet the Wicked Haman didn’t want to attend. I would assume he had, had a change of heart. But boy does he even know what is coming his way There is coming a day the Lord is going to call for us, ready or not we will be called. That is the question though, are we ready to face the King of Kings. Matthew 25:31–32 KJV 1900 31 When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory: 32 And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats: Revelation 20:12 KJV 1900 12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were Exported from Logos Bible Software, 8:46 PM March 20, 2020. 15 opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. Revelation 22:12 KJV 1900 12 And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be. Jude 14–15 KJV 1900 14 And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints, 15 to execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against him. 2 Peter 2:9 KJV 1900 9 The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished: This will also be a Required Response, there will be many that because of their ungodly and unholy lives will not want to respond but they will not have a choice. The Just and the UnJust will stand before God It will also be a Rapid Response, could be you are looking at God’s creation one minute and looking at God the next Exported from Logos Bible Software, 8:46 PM March 20, 2020. 16
